Washington, D.C., to San
Francisco.
A turned-over truck around
3:30. Lots of civilians standing around. Some help soldiers righting the truck.
Mud at 5:10. Slipping and
sliding.
Brevet Lt. Col. Dwight D.
Eisenhower was a member of the mission. As president, he signed the National
Interstate and Defense Highway Act in 1956.
That would have been an interesting
road trip. More than 3,000 miles, from Washington, D.C., to Oakland, and then
by ferry to San Francisco, done in only 56 days.
