Croatian shipbuilding in great shape. Or maybe not

Propaganda disguised as news.

Wisdom from a wealthy woman in the 1920s

"See if there is any bacon, and if there is, ask the cook which pan to fry it in. Then ask if there are any eggs, and if so try and persuade the cook to poach two of them. It is better not to attempt toast, as it burns very easily. Also, in the case of bacon, do not turn the fire too high, or you will have to get out of the house for a week. Serve preferably on china plates, though gold or wood will do if handy." – Mrs. F. Scott Fitzgerald, replying to Florence Stratton’s request for a favorite recipe to be included in Favorite Recipes of Famous Women.

“The rich…are different from you and me.” – Mr. Zelda Fitzgerald in The Rich Boy.

Baseball broadcasters sometimes don’t make sense

Why a hitter suddenly hits 20 or 40 points above his lifetime average.

Paid expert No. 1 – He’s more aggressive than he was in the past. He’s attacking the ball, not waiting for the ball to come to him.

Paid expert No. 2 – He’s a lot more patient than he was in the past. He’s not going after pitches, but waiting for the ball to come to him and then hitting it hard.

First bear sighting in more than 100 years

In Davidson County, Tenn.

"This is where the bear was spotted right here, then it goes to the feeder and then you will see it dart off to the woods," Doug Langston explained to News 2.

He said he first couldn't believe his eyes.

"It wasn't a joke - it was like my camera, my hunting house and then a bear right there at it," he said.

I hope more are sighted and that people let them alone.

Russia’s recent army show

Lots of pictures here:

You will never again see this in baseball

Several things can happen when a pitcher tries to intentionally walk a batter.

1. The pitcher successfully tosses four pitches outside the strike zone, and all four are caught by the catcher.

2. The pitcher throws a ball nowhere near the catcher.

3. The pitcher throws the ball close enough to the plate that the batter smacks the ball into the outfield for a base hit.

This video shows what happens when 2 and 3 occur:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpKbSos6Mc4

Why will you never see these again? Because the Real Smart People who run baseball decided a couple of years ago that intentionally walking a batter takes too long. So now a manager need only signal the home plate umpire, and the batter walks to first base, no pitch thrown. Gotta save that wasted three minutes so it can turn into five minutes for instant replay. Speeding up the game, ya know.

Wildlife group wants open borders for wild pigs

“The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is to go to the EU Commission in an attempt to prevent authorities in Denmark from erecting a 68 kilometre-long fence to keep wild boar out of the country.

“Construction is scheduled to begin next year on the fence, which was approved earlier this year as part of a package aimed at protecting the Scandinavian country against the spread of swine flu.”

https://www.thelocal.dk/20180828/wwf-to-take-denmark-to-court-over-swine-flu-fence

Another case of a country having the temerity, the audacity to make its own decisions, based on what is best for its people.

Who TF cares?

“U2 frontman Bono has announced that the band will be waving the European Union flag at shows, starting in Berlin.

“Writing for German title Faz, the millionaire rock star said: ‘We’ve just had one of our more provocative ideas: during the show we’re going to wave a big, bright, blue EU flag.’”.

(He says waving the EU flag is “a radical act.” Oh.)

Nearly 240 schools report a shooting? Uh, no

Statement 1: “This spring the U.S. Education Department reported that in the 2015-2016 school year, ‘nearly 240 schools … reported at least 1 incident involving a school-related shooting.’”

Statement 2: “NPR reached out to every one of those schools repeatedly over the course of three months and found that more than two-thirds of these reported incidents never happened.”

Statement 3: “A separate investigation by the ACLU of Southern California also was able to confirm fewer than a dozen of the incidents in the government’s report, while 59 percent were confirmed errors.”

“The lesson: do not believe government data, especially on issues that have been exploited to achieve political objectives, like school shootings and global warming. Above all, do not believe the hype.”

Self-segregation means trouble

Six years ago Priscilla and I were a host family for a 16-year-old exchange student from a Northern Europe country. K just completed a week-long visit, leaving Monday.

Europe has changed in the last six years.

K said, “We now have segregated neighborhoods. We have never had segregated neighborhoods.” I asked if these were self-segregated. K said they were.

“And,” I said, “from what I’ve read, police don’t go into those neighborhoods.”

“No, they do not,” she said forcefully.

A friend of my wife’s said a number of Arabic-speaking men suddenly began attending her mosque.

“They say we do not speak good enough Arabic, so they should take over in preaching sermons and teaching the Koran,” N said.

That often is the first phase of radicalizing a congregation. New, Arabic-speaking men arrive, and soon the American and Americanized Muslims leave for another mosque, leaving the radicals to preach hatred.

Homeowner, racking 12-guage: ‘Come on down!’

Elmira police are still investigating a home invasion early Sunday in which the intruder was shot, but police say the occupant who fired the shot will not be charged.

Police on Monday identified the suspect as Jason A. Lopez, 33, of Elmira. Police officers responded at 6:12 a.m. Sunday to a residence in the 500 block of Perine Street for a report of a home invasion in progress.

Officers learned that the intruder had made entry into the residence and was shot by one of the occupants.

The resident shot Lopez with a 12-gauge shotgun which was legally possessed, police said. Lopez remained in a local hospital Monday receiving treatment for a single gunshot wound.

Why science is liberal

“’I do not believe there is a single case in the last couple of decades where a major scientific organisation took a position that went against the platform of the Democratic party.’ He added: ‘What an odd coincidence that “science” always, without exception, supports the liberal worldview.’”

How can it be, major scientific organizations “always… supports the liberal worldview”?

Well, sometimes they make up stuff.

“In 2014, a paper was published in Science called ‘When contact changes minds: An experiment on transmission of support for gay equality’. This demonstrated that instinctively homophobic, buttoned-up conservatives were more likely to become liberal on meeting a gay man. Their study showed that ‘a 20-minute conversation with a gay canvasser’ increased their acceptance of same-sex marriage nine months later. Great! Except as two graduate students subsequently demonstrated, no study was ever conducted. To the chagrin of the social scientists who had welcomed this paper and its heartwarming message, it had to be retracted.”

https://www.spectator.co.uk/2018/08/its-not-science-i-dont-trust-its-the-scientists/

Got that part “no study was ever conducted”? Like that John Travolta movie not about Bill Clinton, in which the candidate bedded any woman of legal age, but it was okay, because in politics, his heart was in the right place.

So it is with science organizations. Any finding that supports the cause is admissible, approved and correct.

Science. Any fact you want, as long as it supports the liberal cause.

Glad I was born in Texas

I don’t say Texas is the South, but Southern influence is greater than any other, with some Mexican to give a little balance.

“To live in the South, you had to appreciate nature, and see the wisdom of God in the bends of the trees and the flight of the bees. You had to believe that each person was born to a unique role which fit their abilities, and that working together unequally, you could raise a civilization which was greater than the sum of its parts.

“In the North, bourgeois sentiment reigned. You had to believe that each person was accountable to nothing except himself, that his work would give his life meaning, and that the mechanical schedule of the city could replace customs, culture, calendar, and heritage. You lived only for yourself, as one equal part of a vast machine.”

“The South took one look at the North said ‘no way.’ They wanted a life based more in enjoyment of the beauties of life than in converting life into a product, and the cultivation of a vast audience of cultureless people to purchase these products.”

European cities soon to be under Sharia law

“At present, Muslims make up about 17% of the population of Antwerp and Brussels, 22% of Birmingham, 25% of Marseille, 11% of Amsterdam, 13% of Rotterdam, and 13% of Frankfurt. Immigration patterns and demographic trends indicate that those numbers will increase steadily in the years to come, and eventually, I repeat, all of Western Europe will be under sharia law.”

Georgia’s First Republic

Not enough studies praise the Menshevik/Social Democrat country that existed in name 1918-21 before Bolsheviks ended independence.

“Stephen Jones, Ronald Suny and Charles Urjewicz consider themselves politically on the left side, thus close to Georgia’s ruling Social-Democrats in 1918-21, and hold critical views of Georgia’s recent, more right-leaning leaders.”

When three “politically on the left side” historians give opinions, who believes the “recent, more right-leaning leaders” will get a fair shake?

https://civil.ge/archives/246979

Who is to blame (for everything), and what is the fix?

“You know, today the world is moving in a very bad direction: Putin’s Russia, Erdogan’s Turkey, Orban’s Hungary, Trump’s America… Partly those leaders succeed, because we haven’t managed capitalism well enough for years. We need social-democratic control over free capitalism and the new generation in Georgia can get lessons about it from their First Republic.”

“(W)e haven’t managed capitalism well enough for years.”

Not since the collapse of Marxist-Leninist Soviet Union.

ISIS target 1.5 miles away. Not a problem for the M2 machine gun

You have not converted a man simply because you have silenced him

That was a somewhat popular saying for hippies and serious leftists back in the early 1970s.

It’s not being spoken now, but today’s Soros Progressive Democratic Socialists are using social media and big banks to muzzle and downright silence conservatives. The leftists have forgotten what their forebears presumably protested.

Here’s the thing, and I have said it over and over: Those people want you and me gone, out of sight, out of hearing, behind barbed wire if necessary, probably preferably.

The newest attack on free speech comes from the Southern Poverty Law Center, which convinced Visa and MasterCard to stop processing contributions to Freedom Center.

David Horowitz writes: “For years, the SPLC has labeled Freedom Center a hate group and tried to get organizations like Amazon, Facebook and Twitter to ban us and silence our message.

“Yesterday, SPLC finally convinced MasterCard and Visa to cut us off. Now we can’t process donations from any major credit card companies.”

http://www.occidentaldissent.com/2018/08/22/david-horowitz-deplatformed-by-visa-and-mastercard/comment-page-1/

When first reading the story at jihadwatch, I thought, “Is it that easy for a non-profit political organization to shut down another non-profit political organization?” Well, yes. Except Horowitz would not convince Visa to stop processing donations to SPLC, nor would he even try.

That is a major difference between them and us. We believe in debate and logic. They believe in making us shut up.

Has Pepperdine rid itself of its Columbus statue?

As we all know, had Christopher Columbus not sailed west from Spain in 1492, the Western Hemisphere would not have been found by any other European and native peoples would be living in the same harmonious level of peace as before, not knowing or practicing war.

“A Christopher Columbus statue at Pepperdine University torn down after student complaints of racism and oppression was supposed to make a trip across the Atlantic to the Old World, where it would find a new home at the prestigious school’s campus in Florence, Italy.

“But it looks like that plan has been sunk.

“Today, about 18 months after that decision was made, it does not appear the private, Christian university has followed through on its pledge to give the explorer a new home.”

https://legalinsurrection.com/2018/08/christopher-columbus-statue-removed-from-pepperdine-may-just-disappear/

The school decided in early 2017 to take down the statue “after a small but vocal group of students demanded its removal…despite thousands of signatures demanding the university keep the statue.”

Ah, yes. The “small but vocal” mob defeats thousands of people who were not present to make noise.

One would think a college associated with the Church of Christ would keep its word. Of course, one would think a Christian college would not give in to a mob in the first place.

White male professor, meet your minority female reverse mentor

She will enable you to recognize your bias and help increase diversity in your STEM field.

“The new, government-funded study in the UK will be centered at the University of Birmingham.

“’[W]e will trial some innovative interventions such as “reverse mentoring,” where a junior BAME [Black, Asian, and minority ethnic] woman coaches a senior male, white professor, and empowering academics to challenge senior-level decisions, with appropriate backing and support,’ said computer science Professor Jon Rowe, the program’s director, in a news release.”

Well, thank goodness that’s in the UK. It won’t happen here.

Wonder what “appropriate backing and support” means?

NC company officials guilty of fake USA labels on combat boots

President of Wellco Enterprises, Inc., gets three years for selling China-made boots as Made in USA.

https://thisainthell.us/blog/?p=81259

Three years is not enough.

“The company has been the lead boot supplier for the Department of Defense for more than 70 years.”

“Ferguson and his executive team’s Chinese import scheme began as early as December 2008 and lasted through August 2012, a time in which they sold more than $8.1 million worth of the fraudulent boots, according to the release.”

For more than 70 years the company has been paid millions of tax-payer dollars, but then decided to cheat taxpayers, the government and American soldiers, just to make more bucks.

Despicable.

Half million more Israelis approved for firearms carry

“More than half a million Israelis have become eligible to receive gun permits under a major reform of the country’s firearms rules, with the stated goal of improving the immediate response to terror attacks.

“Under the new rules, which went into effect immediately upon being announced Monday, hundreds of thousands of veterans of the IDF’s infantry units will be eligible for gun permits, along with police officers who received the equivalent training.”

https://www.timesofisrael.com/hundreds-of-thousands-more-israelis-okayed-to-carry-guns-under-new-rules/?utm_source=The+Times+of+Israel+Daily+Edition&utm_campaign=36b221c2f8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_08_21_01_12&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_adb46cec92-36b221c2f8-55395173

Not all Israelis are happy.

“The new policy was criticized by the leader of the left-wing opposition party Meretz.

“Firearms ‘are a death machine whose civilian use needs to be reduced as much as possible,’ Tamar Zandberg said in a statement. ‘Instead of dealing with the tremendous amount of illegal weapons on the streets endangering human lives, they are simply increasing the number of gun permits.’”

Tweet from a twit

“Frequent-flier miles are a tool of inequality. People who fly a lot for work (so overwhelmingly have high-status, well-paid jobs) then get free vacation for their families. It’s ridiculous when you think about it.” – somebody named Amanda Kolson Hurley.

http://ace.mu.nu/

On her site, Ms./Mx. Hurley describes herself/themself thusly: “I’m a journalist in the Washington, D.C., area who specializes in architecture and urban issues. Currently, I am a senior editor at CityLab, the city-focused publication of The Atlantic.”

My wife said, “Sounds like she makes lots of money.” So, does Hurley refuse offered frequent-flier miles?

She sounds like a big-city person who does not understand working people, nor does she wish to.

She later deleted the tweet, stating in part: “I clearly overlooked how many ppl on moderate incomes travel for work.”

No, you did not overlook anything. You assumed, you did not know, nor do you care.

Hiker in Ireland injured by falling sheep.

Rachel Flaherty

A hiker was injured after being hit by a falling sheep while walking on the Mourne Mountains in Co Down.

The teenage boy was walking with a group near Hares Gap when he was struck by a sheep jumping from an adjacent crag on Friday.

Mourne Mountain Rescue Team said they received a call for help about 4.30pm.

The rescue team of 17 people found the teenager on a steep slope on Slieve Bearnagh.

“The casualty was assessed and treated for a range of potential injuries including head, neck, back, abdominal and leg injuries,” the group said in a Facebook post.

The teen was evacuated by stretcher and taken to Ulster Hospital for treatment.

“We believe the sheep was uninjured and left the area unaided,” the team said.

To those who think God is OK with homosexuality

Leviticus 18:22, “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.”

Leviticus 20:13, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-10, “Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

Romans 1:26-28, “For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper.”

Chernobyl and Pripyat

In Pripyat, a new forest ecosystem has formed. There are new levels of forest, food chains, and other attributes of wild nature. Boars walk around in the stadium, and birds make their nests inside the “Prometheus” cinema (in photo above). Pripyat is not a dead city at all, it’s now a part of the forest, which is full of life.

Regarding the radiation – inside the town of Chernobyl, the radiation doesn’t exceed that found in Ukrainian capital of Kiev – 10-15 mR/hour. Inside the 10-km zone – it increases a bit, then in Pripyat the average radiation is 50-80 mR/hour, which is very safe for short visit.

More fish in North Sea? How can that be?

Bad human activities (such as living) are killing all the fish worldwide, so environmentalists have said.

“Species of fish such as plaice and cod are on the increase under the waves of the North Sea, a Danish study has found.

“The research, conducted by DTU Aqua at the Technical University of Denmark, found a significant increase in numbers of large fish in the northeast Atlantic.

“Results of the study show that, since the turn of the century, the biomass of 25 different species included in the study doubled. Certain species, including plaice, cod and hake, tripled or even quadrupled over the period.”

Morning Rant from Ace Gorilla

"So the MSM is all butthurt because Trump called fake news the enemy of the people. So they all wrote a bunch of editorials complaining about it. But last weekend during the protests and counterprotests, there were a number of incidents where antifa goons physically attacked reporters and damaged video equipment carried by the cameramen. I saw the video footage, but I did not see a story about this. Did CNN complain that their reporters were roughed up by antifa? I did not see the wall-to-wall coverage there would have been if any one of the 23 white supremacists had so much as given a reporter a dirty look. So, to recap this week's MSM follies, Trump hurt their feelings and it's a national crisis. But then reporters are physically intimidated and assaulted by antifa thugs, and it's a big nothingburger? You know, if I were a progressive reporter whose job it is to cover these clowns, I'd be rethinking that whole 'there are no enemies on the Left' thing they've been going with."

She ain't even in the ground, and people shooting each other arguing over her

From Suffolk, VA:

An argument over Aretha Franklin led to a shooting, witnesses told police in one Virginia town Thursday. Suffolk Police responded to a report of a gunshot victim Thursday morning around 10:45 a.m. in the 300 block of East Washington Street.

CBS affiliate WTKR reports a witness said he heard the two people in the argument were fighting over whether or not Halle Berry played Aretha Franklin in a movie.

Police said the fight turned physical and then one of the subjects produced a firearm, shooting the other man at least once. Both men got emergency medical assessment and treatment by Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel before being transported to local hospitals for further treatment. Police said the gunshot victim is considered to be in serious condition.

Franklin had previously wanted Berry to play her in an upcoming biopic, but Berry claimed she couldn’t sing and wouldn’t do the role justice, according to E News. Instead, Jennifer Hudson was tapped to play the Queen of Soul in the film.

The investigation is ongoing and the roadway in the immediate area is also closed.

Elizabeth Warren is crazy

Or stupid or a Democrat.

The senator from Massachusetts is proposing an “Accountable Capitalism Act,” which would “require that corporations that earn more than $1 billion in revenue a year (note ‘revenue,’ not ‘profits’) would need a federal ‘charter’ in order to operate. This charter would obligate these companies to consider all ‘stakeholders,’ not just shareholders, when making decisions. The bill would also require these corporations to permit employees to elect 40 percent of the company’s board of directors; a super majority of 75 percent of directors and shareholders would have to approve political donations. (Gee, I wonder if somebody will propose something similar for unions?) Shareholders would be permitted to sue the company if they felt its actions were driven purely by profit and did not reflect the desires of its many ‘stakeholders.’”

https://legalinsurrection.com/2018/08/elizabeth-warren-wants-to-weaponize-and-federalize-corporations-for-social-justice-activism/

Or as Vox puts it: “Instead of advocating for expensive new social programs like free college or health care, she’s introducing a bill Wednesday, the Accountable Capitalism Act, that would redistribute trillions of dollars from rich executives and shareholders to the middle class — without costing a dime.”

https://www.vox.com/2018/8/15/17683022/elizabeth-warren-accountable-capitalism-corporations

Whaat?? My economics education consists of an A in Economics 101, a required course. Other than that, I know as much as Father Guido Sarducci: “By low, sell high.”

And I know this from being alive for 72 years and 8 months: Anytime the government says “it won’t cost a dime,” hold onto your billfold or purse, ‘cause a collector is on his way to your bank.

Colorado after Christian baker again

“For over six years now, Colorado has been on a crusade to crush Plaintiff Jack Phillips… because its officials despise what he believes and how he practices his faith. After Phillips defended himself all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and won, he thought Colorado’s hostility toward his faith was over. He was wrong. Colorado has renewed its war against him by embarking on another attempt to prosecute him, in direct conflict with the Supreme Court’s ruling in his favor. This lawsuit is necessary to stop Colorado’s continuing persecution of Phillips.”

Why can’t the liberal democratic progressive socialists just let people alone? Simple answer: They believe we all should think like they do, and, by Marx and etc., if we don’t freely surrender all our beliefs, they have courts and fines and prison sentences waiting for us.

Dutch justice system loses testikles

‘Dutch man faces court in the Netherlands for insulting Erdogan’

By LAURA CAT 15 August 2018

“A 64-year-old man from Sittard is set to be prosecuted in The Hague on Friday over insulting emails he sent to Turkish president Recept Tayyip Erdogan in 2016.

“In his emails he likened Erdogan to Hitler and called him a “goat f*cker”, according to Dutch newspaper De Limburger.

“’Erdogan, you f*cking goat f*cker, burn in hell.’ he writes in one email in which he included a meme showing Hitler and Erdogan with a swastika between them with the text: ‘There’s no difference’.

“In a second email he said, ‘Erdogan takes the whole world hostage with his pernicious ideas. More than seventy years ago, a similar dictator made exactly the same mistake. I regret the Turkish people with this idiot, you do not deserve better.’

“The Dutch man faces charges of insult, insulting an official, and insulting a friendly head of state. His lawyer refused comment to 1Limburg stating: ‘It is not in my client’s best interest to respond at the moment.’ He will appear in the court in The Hague on Friday.

https://voiceofeurope.com/2018/08/dutch-man-faces-court-in-the-netherlands-for-insulting-erdogan/

And:

“An investigation into the Dutchman was launched after the Turkish Embassy in The Hague filed a complaint against the individual.

“Following the formal complaint, the Dutch police found that the man lives in the southern province of Sittard.

“The public prosecutor in The Hague started an investigation against the man who is now facing charges of insulting a friendly head of state.

“The Dutch parliament recently accepted a draft bill to annul the legislation regarding the insult on foreign heads of state, however since it has not been approved by the Senate, the law still remains in effect.”

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/dutch-man-faces-prosecution-in-holland-for-insulting-erdogan-135825

(One might assume the Turkish ambassador did not file the complaint on his own, but on directions from Ankara.)

Had such laws been in effect 80 years ago, it would have been illegal to write, “Hitler is a bad man,” or, “Adolph is a schweinhund.”

Rain and rain and etc.

We have had a wet summer. In the last two months, there were three days with no rain.

A new, shallow pond developed just south of the house, at its fullest perhaps six inches deep and 60 by 40 feet across. With the new pond, unfamiliar birds began to appear. Water standing in a new area brings bugs and other nutrients to the surface. We have seen different swimming birds (three new kinds of ducks) and more wading birds than before.

A funny thing, though. The new birds are in pairs. One male and one female. One set of big brown ducks had four offspring. Two ducks not so large had one hatchling. A pair of black wading birds had four babies.

Hmm. More rain. Birds of different kinds in pairs, one male and one female.

If I wake up one morning and find a big boat floating on the big pond…Well, I guess I’ll go buy a boat of my own and hide it in the garage. Just in case.

Yes, God told Noah he would not again destroy the earth by flood, but some lowland inundation is not out of the question.

The day the music started again

This was posted at shorpy.com (Page 302) commenting on a photograph made Sept. 2, 1945, aboard the USS Missouri.

This was on a Sunday, just three years and nine months since the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In reality to a child, WW2 seemed so very long, as though it would go on forever, since I remember nothing before age 3.

Growing up in a very industrious, factory-filled, small Connecticut mill town where everyone had at least one full time job, I remember the many nights of "lights out" air raid drills, everybody's mom having to work in the factories, rationed food stamps, savings bonds, recycling of paper, scrap iron, grease, rags, restrictions on so many items, and banners on countless windows with gold stars of people who lost their beloved young family members in combat.

It was common to see people wearing uniforms of the various armed forces everywhere, throughout every day. Just about every home displayed their American flags and patriotic songs and sorrowful, sentimental or yearning love melodies playing on the radio. True joy was hard to come by, although through the spirit of togetherness, most people had hope we would soon be victorious. On the day this happened, our town really let loose.

Starting shortly after church services, there was a huge impromptu parade that soon became a massive block party, people all gathered in the center of town and the grocery stores and social clubs were providing unlimited cooked free food and drinks and local bands were playing uplifting music. There was dancing and singing and hugging and kissing and crying and everyone's emotional release was palpable.

This went on late into the night. There were no grumps, no arguments, no political dissent, just mutual exuberance from everyone that surely better times were ahead, happy days were here again. As a dumb kid, I really didn't understand all of what it meant, but it was obvious that this was one of the best days in history. God bless America.

1903 rural mail delivery

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=26&v=QzXNNHnWfg8

From story at

https://99percentinvisible.org/article/open-source-icon-rural-americas-classic-metal-mailbox-with-flag-design/

Was a time rural carriers (mail men) did more than put mail in boxes. If you needed to mail a letter but didn’t have a 5-cent stamp, you would fix a nickel onto the envelope with a clothes pin and put it in the box and raise the flag. The mail man would take the nickel, lick the stamp and put it on the envelope and then put the clothes pin back in the box. When stamps were 3 cents, the mailman would leave two pennies change in the clothes pin.

Here’s a positive about Kim Jong Un

The North Korean dictator/murderer makes people happy.

Really. When he is around, his slaves and courtiers are always smiling. Not a single frown is seen.

Here is a link to an example:

https://www.weaselzippers.us/393600-amid-heatwave-north-koreas-leader-kim-jong-un-steps-out-in-summer-clothes-straw-hat/

See the smiling army officers? And the young woman?

Happy, happy, happy.

Of course, there is the death-penalty thing for not smiling when Kim is around. Maybe there isn’t an official death penalty, but all North Koreans know.

ISIS didn’t read his blog about peace and love and etc.

Instead, ISIS adherents killed him.

“’You watch the news and you read the papers and you’re led to believe that the world is a big, scary place,’ wrote Austin during their trek. ‘People, the narrative goes, are not to be trusted….I don’t buy it. Evil is a make-believe concept we’ve invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own.’”

Jay Austin and Lauren Geohegan were riding bicycles in peaceful Tajikistan, when an automobile driven by five ISIS members plowed into them and five other Westerners.

http://neveryetmelted.com/2018/08/11/death-by-fuzzy-thinking/

July 31, deadspin.com:

By Patrick Redford

Lauren Geoghegan and Jay Austin wrote that they were trying to see the world by bike. The couple quit their jobs last summer to begin a transcontinental bicycling odyssey of sorts. Their goal was not to break any records, nor even attempt to encircle the entire globe. “We have neither a firm route nor a timetable, a sponsorship nor a place we need to be,” they wrote, “and so we’re comfortable just pedaling where the winds and the world and our own hearts take us.”

They were on a leg that began in Almaty, Kazakhstan when disaster struck last weekend. Geoghegan and Austin were riding in a group with a few other western cyclists in the Khatlon province of Tajikistan. Per a release from the U.S. embassy in Tajikistan, a car swerved into a group of seven cyclists on purpose, hitting several. Assailants then got out of the car and stabbed the group. A Dutch rider and a Swiss rider also died in the attack, while three others were injured. A video of the attack (which is blurry, but still obviously very graphic) shows a driver swerving across the road to hit riders, and even launching one off of an embankment. Tajik authorities have killed four suspects and captured a fifth.

https://deadspin.com/two-americans-among-group-of-cyclists-murdered-by-isis-1828011959

So, to Mr. Austin, the men who killed him and four others were "fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own.’” But the ISIS were not evil, because in Mr. Austin's world, evil exists only in white countries.

Police priorities

“(T)he streets are littered with speed cameras, red-light cameras and other surveillance equipment to tax motorists. On the other hand, if your car is stolen, the cops cannot be bothered to look for it and you have to hope the insurance company is generous.”

There is much more to the column, but that line is a good attention grabber.

Saka tomb yields more than 3,000 gold ornaments

Beads, small discs, necklaces among gold work found in Kazakhstan.

“Archaeologists have discovered more than 3,000 gold ornaments in an ancient burial ground in Kazakhstan. The objects were found in a tumulus in the Eleke Sazy plateau of the Tarbagatai Mountains in eastern Kazakhstan, a site known for its 200 burial mounds of the Saka culture dating to the 8th-7th centuries B.C.

“The Saka culture, a nomadic people who inhabited the Eurasian Steppe, areas of modern-day Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, in the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age. The Saki were not purely nomadic. Some subgroups founded permanent settlements with large burial grounds, planted crops and mined metals. Their processing of those metals was highly sophisticated, allowing them to produce meticulously constructed jewelry and other artifacts which they traded to neighboring populations on the steppes. They also buried large quantities of them with their leaders.

“The artifacts unearthed in the grave are exceptional examples of Saka goldsmithing.”

About that ‘Now the white people gone, all POCs will live in peace and harmony’

A Missive from Post-America

by El Inglés

All honest white people will acknowledge that there is one area in which they harbour a deep insecurity with respect to Asians. By Asians, we refer here not to the denizens of the Indian subcontinent, whose true racial nature is unclear, and best captured with the decidedly untechnical term ‘brown.’ Rather, we refer to proper, epicanthically-enriched, chopstick-and-bamboo Asians, whose devastating abilities in the arts of hand-to-hand combat have long wowed film audiences around the world. They may be small and weedy-looking, but goodness me, they know how to fight, goes the refrain. Jet Li. Jackie Chan. Bruce Lee. You wouldn’t want to tangle with that lot, would you?

This concern about the combat superiority of the Asian has finally been dispelled thanks to a brief video made available online in recent days. Said video was captured on the cell phone of a witness to the brawl itself, which occurred in a nail salon in Brooklyn, Noo Yark. This fascinating anthropological resource shows a group of largely indeterminate, though substantially Chinesey-looking, female Asians going at it with a pair of angry, female, negro flailers straight out of central casting. And it sets the record straight as to the combat abilities of the Asian: Reader, they fight as badly as everyone else.
They shove. They flail. They stagger. They swipe. They hit people with brooms. Admittedly, said Asians are fairly elderly, and an injection of younger blood might allow us to witness, in future bouts, the occasional Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon-type moment. But, in a nutshell, they fight in the same raggedy-a**ed way that people always do in the real world. Jackie Chan, you lied to us!

The conflict itself was most peculiar. All informed people know that the absence of white people is supposed to result in a situation of post-racial harmony, as People of Colour display the profound love they hold for each other. Black, brown, yellow, blacky-brown, browny-black, yellowy-brown, blacky-yellowy-brown: colour matters not. POC move in. White people move out. Racial harmony ensues. So goes the theory.

And so much for theory. The reality seems to be rather different. POC move in. White people move out. POC start eating each others’ faces. White people move back in with riot gear to minimize casualties. The post-racial utopia is put on hold. Agitated negros cluster outside the immigrant establishments providing journalists with detailed descriptions of what their black a**es (their expression, not mine) will do if things do not improve. And so the wheel turns.

Those in the know will be aware of the general trend here. American immigration policy brings large numbers of poor but aspiring people to American shores, many of them from Asia. These people choose to settle in the big coastal cities, where they open labour-intensive businesses in poor areas with substantial black populations. These areas often present certain business opportunities due to the low entrepreneurial levels of the black populations and the unpleasantness of conducting businesses amongst and for the negro underclass.

Sooner or later, mutual hostility and contempt combine with resentment at the relative economic success of the newcomers to create brawls, sidewalk protests, police intervention, and much general frothing. In extreme circumstances, POC-on-POC hostility can become quite extreme. Interested parties are invited to investigate how much fun was had by the Korean population of LA during the LA Riots of 1992.

Speaking of Koreans, this development comes but a couple of weeks or so after another Asian incident in the United States. One Sarah Jeong, an American of South Korean extraction, had been awarded a prominent position on the editorial board of The New York Times for her apparent excellence in tech journalism. Before long, it transpired that she had previously made a great many unflattering remarks about white people on Twitter, including, but not limited to, the wonderful sentence fragment ‘dumb**s f***ing white people marking up the internet with their opinions like dogs p***ing on fire hydrants.’ She defended herself on the grounds that she was engaging in ‘satire’ and ‘counter-trolling.’

Of course, I sympathize with her basic position. I have often made cunning satirical reference to Koreans as a bunch of dog-eating, slant-eyed, kimchi-munching no-hopers, only to then be vilified as a racist. It is all most troubling. Satire is simply beyond most people these days. Being a sophisticated analyst of racial affairs opens one up to such unfair attacks, and the mob is relentless.
Despite the best efforts of the alt-right agitators on Twitter, it appears that Sarah Jeong will be keeping her job at The Times. Much discussion has centered on this development, most of it largely predictable in the arguments it presents. She’s a racist. No, you’re the racists, racists. No, she’s a racist. No, you are.

And in the background, post-America swirls into view.

Post-America is that space in the geographical United States where POC have swept or are sweeping in to replace the knuckle-dragging white racists, resulting in post-racial utopia or multi-racial dystopia, depending on your point of view. To this writer, it sounds very much like the latter.

We will continue to consider developments in post-America as and when appropriate source material presents itself. For now, we would simply present the following pieces of advice to our white friends and colleagues living in America, but in proximity to post-America:

1. Stay away from Chinese nail salons patronized by black people.
2. You fight as well as the Asians, if not better. But watch out for the brooms.
3. Try not to forget that you’re dogs p***ing on lampposts.

Stay safe out there, WAYCISTS.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/aug/10/driving-me-nuts-german-police-rescue-man-baby-squirrel

“German police have rescued a man after he called for help saying a baby squirrel would not leave him alone.

“Emergency services received a call on Thursday from the man, who claimed he was being chased down the street by the tiny animal.

“Police in Karlsruhe said the unnamed man called them in desperation after he was unable to shake off the small rodent.

“Officers sent a patrol car out to investigate and arrived to find the chase still in full flow. But the drama ended suddenly when the squirrel, apparently exhausted by its exertions, lay down abruptly and fell asleep.

“Officers took pity on the animal, which had probably become separated from its mother. Police said it likely targeted the man because it was in search of a new home.

“’It often happens that squirrels which have lost their mothers look for a replacement and then focus their efforts on one person,’ said Christina Krenz, a police spokeswoman.

“She said the animals could be ‘very persistent, not just running behind someone, but entirely fixated on them. It can be pretty scary. The man didn’t know what to do and so he called the police. He was certainly feeling a bit threatened.'

“But police on the scene appeared more amused than alarmed.

“’A squirrel will be our new mascot, it will be christened Karl-Friedrich,’ said the police write-up. ‘The squirrel has fallen asleep in fright.’

“Krenz said: ‘It was just a bit of fun. The officers thought up a name that would suit the baby squirrel.’

“Officers took the sleeping Karl-Friedrich into police custody, and then to an animal rescue centre, where it was said to be doing well.

“Krenz said the rescue centre was looking after two other abandoned baby squirrels brought in on the same day for similar reasons, though theirs was the only case in which police have had to intervene.”

Bear attacks increase in Transylvania resort town

‘Residents of the Transylvanian mountain resort of Tusnad are on alert after several of the scores of bears living near the town attacked tourists and locals’

Ana Maria Luca
BIRN
Bucharest

Security forces have been conducting constant patrols of the Romanian mountain resort of Tusnad in eastern Transylvania after bears attacked several tourists and residents in recent weeks, angering local officals who want the government to allow hunting or to relocate the animals.

In the latest incident, two firemen were attacked on Sunday morning while on the way to work by a female bear with two cubs. Both of them sustained serious injuries and one needed surgery.

On July 25, a participant in the Abrad Summer School for Hungarians, hosted by Hunagrian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the Transylvanian mountain resort, was also attacked by a bear.

The same week, a hungry bear broke into a local orphanage that caters to 50 children and raided the kitchen supplies.

According to the local administration, which summoned an emergency council meeying on Monday, bear attacks in the mountain resort are very common and local residents have been “terrorised” by the animals for several years, said a press release issued on Monday night.

Specialists say that at least 40 bears live in the forest around the town and 15 of them have their dens in the immediate vicinity of Tusnad and are very often spotted in search of food around town.

During the night from Sunday to Monday, police and gendarmes chased five bears out of town town, the local administration’s press release also read.

According to Romanian legislation, bears can be only hunted with a special permission from the Ministry of the Environment and only if they pose a deadly threat to humans.

Tușnad is the smallest town in Romania, with a population of 1,617, and in recent years has been attracting many tourists interested in bear sightings.

http://www.balkaninsight.com/en/article/scores-of-bears-dwell-in-romanian-mountain-resort-08-07-2018

Here’s the deal. The presence of bears has brought an increase in tourists. Generally, tourists want to see bears up close. That is not a good idea. A good idea is to keep tourists and bears a safe distance apart. Tusnad makes money from tourism, but is unable to keep bears from attacking local residents and raiding local buildings. The more people in bear land, the more attacks by bears. Or, the more bears in people land, the more attacks by bears. Keep out the people or keep out the bears. Simple.

Got trolls? There’s an app for that

Well, not actually an app, but a German “elf commissioner.” Yes, I know there is a difference between elves and trolls, but Melanie Ruter says she can pacify both creatures who, she says, are the cause of automobile deaths in Lower Saxony.

Here is the story, as told by RT:

“A German road authority has called in an ‘elf commissioner’ and an animal communicator to help tackle road deaths on a particularly hazardous stretch of highway.

“The unconventional move was taken by the Lower Saxony state road authority in a desperate attempt to improve road safety on the A2 autobahn outside Hanover where an average of five accidents take place every day.

“Self-described ‘elf commissioner’ Melanie Rüter speculated that the road accidents were being caused by trolls and elves who were being disturbed by the motorway and offered to try appease the Middle Earth creatures.

“Assisted by animal communicator Marion Lindhof and escorted by a road authority official she travelled to five points along the motorway where a high number of accidents had occurred.

“The spiritual communicators immediately detected ‘very sad energies,’ according to Hannoversche Allgemeine and sought forgiveness from the mythical beings and wild boars.

“’Certain parts of the motorway have now been energetically sealed,’ they said.

“There has been no further accidents on at least one of the five treacherous points since the mystical intervention. However, a collision nearby between two trucks on Monday led to one driver sustaining life-threatening injuries.

“’We are an open-minded authority that supports all our citizens and supports many activities,’ Friedhelm Fischer, the head of the state road authority explained.

“Although the elf-outreach project was deployed at no extra cost to the road authority it has been sharply criticised by the Lower Saxony transport ministry.

“’We do not consider spirituality to be an appropriate method for improving traffic safety,’ the ministry told broadcaster NDR, noting that if it had been duly informed the project would have been ‘immediately prohibited.’

“There were 3,538 accidents on the A2 section of Lower Saxony in 2017, according to police figures, compared with 3,516 in the previous year.”

Texans being Texans

A Facebook post:

Lauren Marie Withrow is at Hopkins County, Texas.
August 3 at 11:35 PM · Sulphur Springs, TX
So this thing happened today...a guy led Hopkins County law enforcement on a car chase and Rains County deputies were asked to assist because it looked like he was headed into Emory. However, he turned off before coming across the county line. Our deputies were proactive and continued heading that way to ensure they’d be available if somehow he made his way there. The guy eventually bailed from the car and went into a residence and holed up. Law enforcement officers (DPS, deputies, police officers) were outside in the sun and heat, in all their gear as they prepared to have the suspect come out of the house (which he eventually did and he was taken into custody without anyone getting hurt). It was hot though and there was very little shade. Traffic wasn’t stopped and people drove by. The three men in this photo drove up, pulled up across the road to DPS troopers and said, “We’ve got two coolers with water and Gatorade, where do you want them?” They unloaded the brand new coolers, thanked the officers, told them they were greatly appreciated, loaded back up into the truck and left. All of this took place in less than five minutes.
And it was the highlight of my day. They weren’t expecting anyone to ever know or find out and they were completely thankful to all the law enforcement officers. Life is tough for all of us but when I’m able to witness kindness, empathy, compassion, gratefulness and respect, with people just being human together...it continually reminds me of the depths of greatness we are all capable of, and should work hard to achieve. ❤️ 🚓 🚨 🚔 ❤️

“Hill's love for America has as its logical corollary a passionate hatred for America's corrupt universities. ‘The biggest breach in this country,’ Hill declares, ‘is not between blacks and whites. It is between the intellectuals and the people.’ Put more succinctly, ’[t]he American professoriate hates America!’ Consequently, the author boldly declares a remedy that would do wonders were it actually implemented: ‘The solution is not just to defund the American humanities and social science departments in current universities, but to also shut them down entirely and rebuild them from scratch.’"

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/08/calling_bs_on_the_victimhood_narrative.html#ixzz5NJNXxfnx

And: “Hell ... hath no greater fury like a far-left-winger rejected for his or her redemptive gestures[.] ... Because if the moral meaning and purpose of your existence as a far-left liberal rests on my suffering and victimization as a black person, then you will need me to suffer indefinitely in order to continue to cull some meaning and purpose from your life.”

Because of his stated beliefs in his second country, Hill “was ultimately denied tenure by his ‘far-left, postmodern, Marxist-infected’ colleagues (despite possessing a sterling teaching and publication record). Fortunately, this essentially ‘racist’ decision for the ‘uppity’ black professor was overturned by the university's president, who was, uncharacteristically, ‘a huge fan’ of Hill's work.”

Hey, they’re just living their ‘art’

A mass-brawl between two French rappers and their clans in front of shocked holidaymakers at Orly airport in Paris on Wednesday led to flights being delayed and forced police to close part of the terminal.

The fight took place at at around 3pm in the shopping area of Hall 1 between rappers Booba and rival Kaaris and their members of their two entourages.

Videos posted on Twitter by witnesses showed around a dozen men launching repeated kicks and punches at each other while shocked holidaymakers flee to get out of their way.

The two rappers, Booba, dressed in a black T-shirt and Kaaris, dressed in grey, who have long been enemies, can be seen exchanging several punches. The fight spilled into a duty free perfume shop where several men can be seen punching another man who was cornered.

One of the men appears to be wielding a bottle of perfume as he repeatedly throws punches.

Woman professor fights attempts at making medieval history diverse and gender-inclusive

“Sympathetic, but hitherto silent, colleagues say the attempt to destroy Fulton Brown is part of a larger invasion into the discipline by activist academics, who see their role as arbiters of moral taste, determined to rid the field of infidels who refuse to bow to social justice. You’ve read stories before about academics at war over free speech with their own institutions. This is different. It’s the story of a professor who has taken on her entire academic field, with no backing whatsoever from the University of Chicago, an institution that prides itself on its commitment to free speech and academic freedom. What’s more, (Fulton Brown) might even win.”

“She is a product of Middle America’s tradition of educating girls, hailing from a four-generation long line of women who attended college in Arkansas, Missouri and Texas, and she says that’s the reason she feels an obligation to engage with regular folk outside the academy.”

“Sharp-elbowed young professors know that a preoccupation with social justice is both fashionable and advantageous. It can also excuse you from the pesky business of serious scholarly work. For academics lucky enough to belong to a “marginalized group” (or who profess loudly enough to care about “the vulnerable”), shrieking warnings about the appropriation of medieval studies by a vast, unseen white supremacist conspiracy out there in Trumpland is a more friction-free path to stage time and press attention than, say, burying one’s head in Biblical exegesis. There are people incensed by this injustice, but, to their shame, not one of them has been brave enough to admit it publicly, except Rachel Fulton Brown.”

(The story is way too long, the second half devolving into unnecessary remarks from unnecessary sources. The first half details attacks against Fulton Brown. Those facts make the story.)

Back in the day, this problem would have ended long ago

Friends of my wife and mine have been undergoing harassment from a crazed neighbor for a couple of months.

The neighbor, Ken, stands on the edge of his yard and shouts obscenities at George and Sheila. He dares George to cross the street. George knows, though, that if he sets foot on Ken’s property, he could be arrested for trespass. George and Sheila have called the Manatee Sheriff's Department at least twice, but deputies said that as long as Ken stays on his own property, the law can do nothing.

Ken has a criminal record, several guilty pleas and convictions for misdemeanor marijuana possession, guilty pleas for felony possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, at least one conviction for assault.

Not long after Ken started harassing George and Sheila, I mentioned to my wife that maybe I could go stand on the sidewalk in front of George and Sheila’s house and stare at Ken’s house, see what he would do.

Today I had the opportunity. My wife and I were at George and Sheila’s when Ken drove into his driveway. I stepped outside and stood on the walkway and folded my arms. Ken got out of his truck. He looked at me. He walked into his garage and looked over his shoulder. I stood with my arms folded. Ken repeated walk, stop and look two more times. And then from the shadows of his garage he said, “What are you staring at, motherfucker?”

I said, “Yeah, that’s what I figured.” I turned and went into George and Sheila’s house.

I still figure I could get reaction from Ken if I stand on the sidewalk, stare at his house and say nothing. Maybe he would even cross the street and step into George and Sheila’s yard.

If we were in Texas, the problem would be quickly solved. In George's old Massachusetts neighborhood, Ken would have already been visited by a guy. Civilized Florida sometimes keeps a man from doing what needs doing.
