In his second inaugural address, President Lincoln said: "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan."
That’s not good enough these days.
“Advocates for changing the motto have offered up a paraphrase of Lincoln's words: ‘To care for those who have borne the battle, and for their families and survivors.’"
