Russians don't like COVID mandates

From Caucasian Knot

In their video appeal addressed to the President of Russia, Volgograd residents claim that the requirement for QR codes violates the constitutional rights of citizens. The activists who took part in recording the appeal said that they spoke not against vaccination, but against coercion to it.

Starting from November 8, the Volgograd Region cancelled the non-working day regime, while the requirement to produce QR codes when entering cafes, fitness centres, and a number of shops. Besides, the regional authorities imposed a requirement to produce certificates on vaccination or certificates on survival after COVID-19 for the purchase of social tickets for travel and long-term travel passes.

The video appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin, posted on social media today, was recorded by activists in seven districts of Volgograd and in Volzhsky. Volgograd residents declared “the inadmissibility of restricting the human rights and freedoms.” “Article 2 of the Constitution provides for that a person, his or her rights and freedoms are the highest value in the Russian Federation and the duty of the state to protect them,” the appeal says.

“We claim that an open mass segregation and discrimination of Russian citizens is currently taking place, and our constitutional rights are being violated. Not a single regulatory act of the Russian Federation provides for a person to have a vaccination certificate or a QR code to exercise his or her rights and freedoms,” authors of the appeal to the Russian President emphasize.

Volgograd residents noted they were outraged that the authorities were “trying to impose (additional) documents for admission to basic rights and freedoms.” The activists demanded from President Putin “as a guarantor of constitutional rights” “to stop the illegal actions of the Russian government, the governor of the Volgograd Region, the “Rospotrebnadzor” (Russian Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision) and restore the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution on the territory of Russia.”
