When determining a conclusion, ...
... it's a good idea to figure out where your head is -- high and searching for the scent of reality or luftmensching in puffy clouds or rectally inclused.
“Obviously, being a good wife didn’t require a college education, and it still doesn’t. It’s just that few women are interested in being good wives, and men have had to change their requirements. If you’re not going to get a wife who does all those things, you’ll need a wife who can earn an income, so you can pay some other woman to do them for you. It’s ironic, that in order to avoid the terrible oppression of cooking and serving food, cleaning and taking care of a home and children, taking care of elderly or sick relatives, and keeping things organized, women flooded into the labor market, where they mostly serve food, clean up after other people, take care of children, the elderly and the sick and keep things organized for the men who do the actual work. Sorry, feminists. It’s still mostly women doing all that work, only now they’re doing it for strangers in exchange for money instead of for their own families in exchange for love.
“So, college campuses are not axiomatically good hunting grounds for a wife, most women appear to have little interest in being a good wife, and instead have flocked to college campuses, leading to a wildly skewed gender ratio, leading to…. men who don’t need to commit to women, because the sex is freely given and the women will likely make shit wives anyways. Given that the price of divorce is so high for men, it’s little wonder men are increasingly refusing to get on board, leaving all these ‘great single women’ on the shelf. I wonder how enthusiastically men would ‘cast aside amazing women’ if those amazing women were interested in being amazing wives, instead of petulant sluts, bitter that no one wants to marry them? The #NoHymenNoDiamond movement on social media has feminists screaming in outrage, but it hits right at the heart of this phenomenon: what exactly do you have to offer men, ladies?-- SAD SLUTS ARE SAD THAT NO ONE WANTS TO MARRY THEM

Joseph Conrad and the civilizing aspect of Western Imperialism
“There are in this world vicious savages who enjoy slaughtering and enslaving people, and who believe it is manly sport to do so. In this year of grace 2015 there is, regrettably, an ongoing revival of such conduct. The answer to such behavior is not to ponder what culturally insensitive act or utterance by the Europeans might have upset these poor suffering people so severely, and driven them to such heinous acts in response. No one would have thought so while Victoria was on the throne, and no one should think like that now.
“The answer is to blow them to bloody shreds with artillery.”

Navy Sec Ray Mabus, knocking USMC upside the head on women in combat MOS:
“As the nature of warfare becomes more dynamic and unpredictable, we need to be the strongest force possible, and diversity is one of our greatest strengths. When we talk about diversity, we mean the full spectrum of demographics, but even more important, we mean diversity of thinking.”
“..diversity of thinking.” Before attacking an enemy position, maybe officers and NCOs could poll their trigger-pullers on various plans and leave decision making to the diversity of thinking.
Or as a respondent at thisainthell said:
“The absolute dumbest and most politically correct statement I have heard in a long time. Diversity…really? So why not include one arm soldiers with no prosthetic device? I am sure there are some who can do one arm push ups and chin ups. How about one eyed recruits? Peripheral vision is just something used ‘on average’. I am sure a case could be made for single eye sight with the AN/PVS-7.
“Hell, let’s just toss in the towel and go full retard and take away all entrance standards, weight, tape, mental defects, you name it. After all it’s all in the holy name of diversity.” --Sparks

What happened in Westgate Mall
Armed citizens took on terrorist murderers.
“News of the assault was beginning to spread via frantic phones calls, texts, and WhatsApp messages. Westgate is in the heart of a Kenyan-Indian part of the city, and the close-knit community there knew better than to rely on the authorities to send help. Instead, the call went out to the community’s own licensed gun holders, who were organized into self-appointed armed neighborhood watch units.”
…
“Before and after blowing up the mall, the Kenyan army looted shops, broke open safes, and emptied tills. The looting was captured on closed-circuit television cameras and reported by business owners after they returned to the mall and found their shops ransacked and stock missing. A public inquiry into the disastrously ineffective security response was promised but never delivered. Somehow, Kenya’s interior minister managed to cling to his job for another 15 months. The army chief retired this spring, with full honors.”

Estonia militia sees increase in volunteers
“Members of Estonia's part-time militia crouch in a sandy trench on a hilltop as machine gun fire echoes through rain washed forest. Russia may be some way off but it is wariness of a vast neighbour that is swelling the force's ranks, drawing labourers and office workers alike to a gruelling exercise.
“The Defence League of the Baltic State has grown 10 percent to almost 16,000 soldiers since Russian President Vladimir Putin's annexation of Crimea last year and support for rebels in eastern Ukraine raised security fears in the small NATO nation.
"’Young people today want to do their bit for the defence of their country,’ medic Riho Mannik, 35, said near a dug-in mortar position during the exercise of 700 volunteers, near the village of Pala 160 kms (100 miles) from the Russian border.

Google wants this blog to go away
How do I know? Let me count the ways.
When first I started this, Google placed ads in the right-hand margin. There were maybe three separate ads; I do not remember for what services or product. Google said it would pay me a penny or something each time a reader clicked an ad. When the number of clicks reached five or so after six months, Google removed the ads. I guess Google figured I would go away and not take up electronic space, considering I would never get any money through the blog.
Ha-ha to you, Google. Ego is more important than money. As long as I have another way of paying the bills.
Next in its attempts at making me go away, a Google pop-up appears each time I access my blog. The pop-up says the blog does not carry a security certification. Well, yes it does. That is the “https” designation. But Google insists I have the trustworthiness of a Chinese army hacker or a Russian web thief.
Then came another pop-up, appearing now every time when I sign in: “Oops! That’s an error!” And a message to “click here” to solve the problem. Well, now, my Northeast Texas raising did not include a class on “Why you should always trust unscrupulous Yankees.” I know better than to click on anything that promises to fix anything.
So. Google, you are stuck with me. And if the 50-120 daily page hits don’t generate any revenue, too bad.
(Just now I clicked "Publish" and got a message claiming "An error occurred."

Red Army rations
"We had to eat food categorised as 'third rate', the worst of all existing types then in army supplies. Thin soup was made with frozen potatoes, without meat, and with that we got a small portion of black bread, a little porridge without butter for lunch and dinner - or worse. Some had not yet fully eaten the food reserves they had brought from home, and kept them under their pillows at their head. They finished them off privately, keeping their secret from outsiders' hungry eyes, having covered their head with a blanket after lights out, quietly munching so as not to arouse jealousy from others, keeping an eye out so that no one stole anything. But still this happened, there were arguments that almost reached fighting. In a short time, everyone ran out of food, and all were hungry. The feeling of hunger constantly pursued us, and even after eating, it did not subside, the young organism demanded food. Among us we talked only about food: we remembered and talked about various household foods. We did not think about or remember girls.
"Everyone cherished the dream of going to detail in the kitchen, where regularly several people from the company were sent daily, and there ate their fill at least once. As a rule, there stuffed themselves and got a few days in hospital. I was also there. The hardest part was to clean the pot after the distribution of cereals. Porridge in the pot burnt after the distribution remained on the walls of the boiler as a crust, which had to be scraped off. We took it away completely in a huge pot, not yet fully cooled down, and you started to scrape the burnt crust, dripping with sweat. The cleaned off crust of black burnt porridge was taken away by the cook, but you could steal the crust, and friends, who at that time were on duty in the late evening under the windows of the dining room, waited for them to be thrown out the window, waiting for a few scraps of burnt porridge.
"On the station square - it was a kilometre away from our location - there was a small market, where local women sold homemade, poor food. They sold flat cakes or tortillas there and God knows what they were made from. Those who could get money from home went there secretly and bought these cakes. And ate them, of course, also secretly. I and Ivan Sidorenko, a guy from our Chehurovki Pisarevsky area, both bought the bread. We did not eat all the cakes and two were left in a greatcoat pocket, and the greatcoat hung on a hanger. The flat bread was spotted by somebody who stole and ate it. Unable to find the flat bread, Ivan complained to the top sergeant, and he decided to reveal the thief, to be severely punished, so that others were not tempted to steal.
"At evening roll call, after roll call, the command 'Dismiss!' was not called out. Instead roll call was followed by another command: 'I command anyone who took the flat bread out of cadet Sidorenko's pocket to step forward!' Deathly silence, no one stepped forward. The sergeant waited five minutes and then repeated the command, adding: 'You will stay up all night, until I know who took the flat bread!'
"As time passed, no one admitted the theft, and the sergeant did not dismiss the ranked soldiers. From time to time he went to his supply room, and we were standing in line. No one even dreamed of breaking ranks and leaving: it would be tantamount to revolt. While there was no sergeant, in the ranks could be heard shouting of abuse at the person who stole the bread. The sergeant reappeared. - What's the noise? Attention! At Ease! No one wishes to confess? - No one stepped forward, and he again went into the supply room.
Everybody was tired of standing and wanted to sleep, and it was not clear how this would end. This went on all night. 15 minutes before the morning wake up call, the sergeant gave the order: 'End Roll Call!' We did not have time to sleep, as the bugler in front of the dugouts played 'Zorya' and the orderly shouted: 'Get up!' And then everything went on with the normal daily routine. We had not slept during the night, and we had to rotate to the next duty. Because of these damn stolen flat cakes, which nobody had even seen, being eaten, they had to endure hardship and humiliation. There was talk that at the front the troops were well fed, and many of us were tired of the constant hunger pangs, we wanted to be sent to the front quickly, even knowing that there we would be living permanently on the brink between life and death.

Migrants head west, stolen cars go east
"Detectives tracing a Lexus stolen from London have ended up tracking it to Uganda - where it was found alongside a fleet of British cars worth more than £1 million.
"The £50,000 SUV was fitted with a state-of-the-art tracking device, which activated as soon as it was taken from outside a property in west London.
"As a result the National Crime Agency was able to use a smartphone app to trace the journey of the stolen RX450h 6,000 miles to the Uganda capital Kampala, where they were stunned to find it alongside 28 other luxury cars which had been stolen from the UK by the car-smuggling gang."

The Lexus went from London to Le Harve to Oman, then to Mombasa in Kenya, then was packed into a steel rail container and shipped to Uganda.

‘Ruminations on the 2016 election’
“In the late 70’s, the ruling class came to terms with the reality of their situation and were willing to gamble on Reagan. He was not a revolutionary, as much as fans like to portray him as such. The people in charge knew what they were getting and knew he was largely correct. They could do business with Reagan.
“(T)here’s no Reagan on the horizon and the current ruling elite is not going to be swayed by appeals to God and country. Tip O’Neil was wrong about most things and not the nicest guy, but he loved his country. The old party hands in the GOP may have looked down their nose at the actor turned politician, but they put the interests of their country first.
“The current crop is a different sort of ruling class. Their only allegiances are to their class and the global financial elite that supports them. It’s why both parties rallied around the Iran deal, for example. Global players like Boeing, Halliburton and their bankers had pending deals with Iran. National security and long standing loyalties to allies in the region simply did not matter.”

So Dartmouth hires a Native-American, except her “tribe” doesn’t exist
Is the famed Ivy League school embarrassed?
Get serious.
“’While we recognize the legitimacy of the concern that individuals may falsely identify themselves as Native American, Dartmouth also understands that there are varying perspectives in the Native American community over what constitutes ethnicity, which is a separate issue from false claims of ethnicity,’ the school’s official statement reads.”

Are those “varying perspectives” on ethnicity the same as the wave aspect of one’s sexual classification? Was a time homosexuals claimed to have been “born that way,” but now many experts in sodomy studies claim sex is a wavering thing – a person can go back and forth and in between, homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, transgender, and all are perfectly normal.

Offended someone? Off with your head!
“Just yesterday, The New York Times reported on the fate of Gilbert and Sullivan in New York: ‘A production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado,” we read, ‘was canceled after it drew criticism over how its largely non-Asian cast planned to portray the stereotyped Japanese characters and culture that are often seen as central to the work, the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players announced on their website.’”
…
“As the Times reports without irony (it is, after all, an irony-free paper): ‘The decision was announced as many arts organizations are rethinking how they stage classic works that portray different races and cultures onstage in ways that are now seen as racist or offensive, in an effort to keep the jarring aspects from getting in the way of what makes those works great.’”

Message to Frito Lay
A professional-sounding woman answered the 800 line. I said, "Would you please pass on to whoever runs that place that because of Frito Lay's support of homosexual and other sodomite activities, I will not buy any Frito Lay or PepsiCo products?" She said she would pass on the message and that she appreciated my fervor.
It's bad only if men do it
A National Geographic Channel program on “Samurai Warrior Queen” focused on a young woman who fought on the losing side of the 1860s Shogun vs Emperor war. I was struck by the assignment of values, women samurai vs the all-male variety, the latter which apparently did not exist. Previous readings and TV documentaries always spoke of samurai society as repressive, aggressive and homicidal, a culture in which men ruled with iron fist. Women samurai, however, were praised for their devotion to clan and family and their readiness to die for honor.
There is no reason to doubt Japanese women’s role in warrior or wartime society. Archaeologists interviewed in the program noted excavation of several battle sites showed 30 percent of skeletons were of women.
But there is a double standard of things military when women are not believed involved.

The hosts of Mohammed
Constantinople
by Al Stewart
Across the western world
The fights are going down
The gypsy armies of the evening
Have lit their fires across
The nether side of town
They will not pass this way again
So here in the night
Leave your home it’s time for running
Out of the light
I see the hosts of Mohammed coming
The Holy Sister bars her doors against the East
Her house has stood too long divided
The uninvited guests are breaking up the feast
She may not bid them leave again
So here in the night
Leave your home it’s time for running
Out of the light
I see the hosts of Mohammed coming
I dreamed I stood like this before
And I’m sure the words that I heard then
Were much the same
It’s just an old Greek tragedy they’re acting here
Held over by popular acclaim
So here in the night
Leave your home it’s time for running
Out of the light
I see the hosts of Mohammed coming

Across the western world
The fights are going down
The gypsy armies of the evening
Have lit their fires across
The nether side of town
They will not pass this way again
So here in the night
Leave your home it’s time for running
Out of the light
I see the hosts of Mohammed coming
The Holy Sister bars her doors against the East
Her house has stood too long divided
The uninvited guests are breaking up the feast
She may not bid them leave again
So here in the night
Leave your home it’s time for running
Out of the light
I see the hosts of Mohammed coming
I dreamed I stood like this before

How doctors killed a president
James A. Garfield was born dirt poor in an Ohio cabin, worked as a janitor in college and was a Union general during the Civil War, but he could not survive the backward expertise of numerous physicians.
‘Garfield’s terrible doctors and Alexander Graham Bell’s metal detector’
“When President James A. Garfield was shot on July 2nd, 1881, a mere three months and 28 days after his inauguration, the nation was shocked. Lincoln’s assassination was deemed a sort of war casualty, a freak occurrence brought on by Civil War, not the opening of a floodgate, so presidents had no security detail and moved about in public places like anyone else. It was easy, therefore, for a disgruntled office-seeker/nutjob with a delusional amount of self-regard like Charles J. Guiteau to approach Garfield at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad station in Washington, D.C., and shoot him twice. One bullet penetrated his lower back; the other grazed his right arm.”

The invasion of Europe, part ---
Following the Danish government’s announcement of tighter rules, “a Facebook group for Danes helping asylum seekers with their everyday lives attracted thousands of new members and became a forum for people willing to drive refugees to Sweden, which has more generous asylum rules.
“Nynne, a 44-year-old woman from an affluent part of Copenhagen, said that although she had never considered herself an activist, she got into her car and drove to Lolland, a rural part of Denmark where many refugees arrive on ferries, because she ‘wanted to do something.’
“After unsuccessfully scouring the pitch dark roads, postings to the Facebook group eventually guided her to three Iraqi Kurds who wanted to go north of the border.
“To avoid unwanted attention, the three spent the night in her apartment until the border crossing was busier.”

(Because, of course, not everyone is lucky enough to be born Nordic, and affluent Danes should do their part in making sure more Syrians and Kurds and etc. make it to Sweden.)

Obama sending elite airsoft battalions to Syria
(With photo of military-age men in camouflage and carrying what look like real guns, but aren't.)
DAMASCUS — The U.S. military took an unusual move Tuesday with the deployment of two battalions of amateur airsoft players to the Syrian capital, in an attempt to depose Bashar al-Assad, or at a bare minimum, just look like they are at least doing something in the two-year-old civil war.
Indeed, the battalions of fully-grown men — who dress up in military uniforms and shoot each other with Airsoft guns on the weekend — are currently en route to the conflict zone via an extremely short C-130 airbus.
“I’ve been training for this my whole life,” said Jeremy Lyons, a 32-year-old college dropout who swears “Airsoft is just a hobby,” even though his entire Facebook features photos of him looking like a goddamn Navy SEAL.
Sources were unable to confirm whether Lyons had ever actually had sex with a woman.
“We think this is a step in the right direction and a humanitarian way of dealing with these people,” said Pentagon spokesman George Little, although he refused to clear up confusion among reporters of whether he was talking about Syrian civilians or the hundreds of douchebags who play airsoft and think that gives them military experience.
According to Pentagon planners, Operation: Softening Blow will give the rest of the military an edge over Syrian forces, by softening up defensive positions: More specifically, Little said, the hope is that the Syrian army will run out of ammo and fuel from running over Airsofters with their tanks so much, there will be little opposition left.
“Since most of their parents bought their equipment, they’re also better outfitted than Delta Force and SEAL Team 6,” said one official, speaking of the most elite military units.
In the Mediterranean Sea, four U.S. Navy ships are standing by to provide support to the Airsoft battalions, most notably from unarmed aerial drones that will only beam back video footage that everyone can laugh at later.
“They won’t stop shooting at us!” cried one pathetic loser, who intelligence sources believed with 98.7% confidence would die a virgin. “And how do they expect us to eat around here? Has anyone seen Applebee’s? We’d even settle for Shoney’s. Jesus!”
At press time, an advance party of airsofters was seen running through the streets crying, in desperate search of a Holiday Inn Express.
Investigative correspondent Merrick also contributed reporting.

Antelope, Texas, population 65
Texas has a number of places you have to want to go to if you are there. Or, maybe you took a wrong turn from a state highway and wound up on a Farm to Market road or a county road.
Antelope is one of those places. Antelope has a cemetery, with 745 tombstones as of May 2013.
http://www.jackcountytexas.info/Cemeteries/antelope.htm
Still standing, but not for too many more centuries, are the community center and high school gymnasium.
https://photosbytorin.wordpress.com/2013/11/10/days-gone-by-in-antelope-tx/
The gym was built in 1938 by Works Progress Administration. WPA built several hundred gyms in Texas during the Great Depression, every one recognizable from the native stone construction. Some places there used to be complete schools, including teacher’s houses, but most of those have been torn down and replaced by modern buildings.
The Handbook of Texas on-line says this about Antelope:
“The community was in a ranching area near the West Fork of the Trinity River and became an overnight stop and supply point on the cattle trails. In 1875 Walter S. Jones platted and surveyed the six blocks around the town square, but the papers were not filed until 1889. By 1890 Antelope had a population of 300, a hotel, several general stores, Methodist and Baptist churches, a school, and daily stages to Henrietta and Graham for a two-dollar fare. A saw and grist mill operated in the community until 1900, when a cotton mill replaced the gristmill. The area was a popular overnight stop for drummers. By 1914 the population was 200. The community still had several general stores, a physician, and a blacksmith but no hotel or mill. The population was 166 in the 1940s. The Mullins Brothers general store, which had opened in 1883, was still in business, and the community had a garage and filling station, the Methodist and Baptist churches, and a school. The community's economy was supported by stock raising and nearby oilfields. In the 1980s the population fell to sixty-five, where it remained in 1990 and 2000. Two businesses remained in the community.”

Pretty much what you expect for that part of Texas.
Antelope United Methodist Church is west of town on Antelope Road, but in Windhurst. If you search on Google, though, you will not get a hit for Windhurst.

900-year-old skeleton found in roots of blown-over tree
“Preliminary analysis of the bones by osteoarchaeologist Dr Linda Lynch revealed that the deceased was a young man 17-20 years old when he died. Radiocarbon dating found he was buried between 1030 and 1200 A.D. While a strapping 5’10″ tall in a time when the average height was 5’5″, the youth suffered mild spinal joint disease likely caused by heavy physical labour from a young age. There is evidence on the bones that he did not die an easy death. Sharp force injuries on the ribs and hand point to his having been cut repeatedly with a knife or sword.”

‘I identify …’
Recently, several opinion columns have appeared from links, with writers saying “I identify as a woman …” or mentions of whoever wants to use which bathroom for people who “identify as a man” or even neither man or woman.
The new secretary of the Army, homosexual Eric Fanning, says he wants transgender persons in the U.S. military services.
Those people are stupid. Many have formal education and have been granted MS or MA or PhD degrees, but they are stupid.
You are what your parts say you are.

‘He literally physically assaulted me by punching me in the face’
That’s what a Rand Paul aide said about a Marco Rubio aide.
Here’s the story and a video: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/top-rand-paul-aide-accuses-top-marco-rubio-aide-of-punching-him-in-the-face/ar-AAetltC?li=AAa0dzB&ocid=HPCDHP
Hey, Paul dude. Your boss is from Kentucky. There is a Kentucky way of taking care of this, and then there is a wuss way. You bitched on various social media places. Let’s vote on whether that is the Kentucky way. Didn’t think so.
And … “literally physically assaulted” you? In what world can someone be “figuratively physically assaulted”? That must fall in the “I could tell he wanted to hit me, so that’s the same as actually assaulting me” category.
And you wussed out in a bar. In Michigan.

Another nail in the coffin
By Erin Edgemon
Doritos today announced a new, limited-edition flavor of chips available only to those who donate to the It Gets Better Project, an organization devoted to supporting LGBT youth.
Doritos Rainbows chips are made up of multiple, rainbow-colored Doritos inspired by the Pride flag, the Frito-Lay company stated in a release.
While supplies last, the bag of chips will be mailed out to anyone who donates $10 or more to the It Gets Better Project. Click here for details.
And, don't forget, those who donate are encouraged to share a message of hope and inspiration using #BoldandBetter.
"Time and again, our consumers have shown us, there really is nothing bolder than being true to yourself and living life to the fullest," said Ram Krishnan, chief marketing officer, Frito-Lay. "With Doritos Rainbows chips, we're bringing an entirely new product experience to our consumers to show our commitment toward equal rights for the LGBT community and celebrate humanity without exception."
The mission of the It Gets Better Project is to "communicate to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth around the world that it gets better, and to create and inspire the changes needed to make it better for them."
The organization started in September 2010, when activist Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry Miller to inspire hope for young people facing harassment and bullying in schools.
http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/09/doritos_creates_rainbow-colore.html
(So Frito Lay thinks rainbow Doritos will allow the world to “celebrate humanity without exception.” In Frito Lay terms, what makes “humanity”? Are opponents of homosexuality part of humanity? Are we who see a threat to centuries-old values part of Frito Lay’s humanity?
(This society deserves whatever it gets.)

I will not eat at Burger King or buy Oreos, and now I add Frito Lay products to my list.

You see stuff like this and wonder, ‘Why didn’t this dude do a little homework’?
“’Know thy enemy,’ said Sun Tzu, the famous Chinese military strategist of the 6th century B.C.”
http://www.newswithviews.com/Hultberg/nelson103.htm
No, no, no. Every translation I have read of The Art of War has, “If you know your enemy and you know yourself, you need not fear the outcome of a thousand battles.”
Yes, “Know thy enemy” takes up a lot less space, but after reading the incorrect quote, I didn’t bother with the remainder of the piece.

There’s something weird about a possible future president letting a TV dude pull on her hair
From the Hillary is Better than Jesus crowd:
“Hillary Clinton has returned to late-night television. The Democratic candidate made an appearance on The Tonight Show Wednesday and was interviewed by both Fallon (and Fallon as Donald Trump). During both segments, Clinton absolutely shined as both a candidate and a comedienne. The best Hillary Clinton moments on Jimmy Fallon shows exactly why she's been such a frequent late-night guest in the past.”
http://www.bustle.com/articles/111134-best-hillary-clinton-moments-on-the-tonight-show-as-the-democrat-concludes-her-campaigns-first-foray
And she debated a fake Trump? OK, I get it. It’s all a joke, this Hillary! Movement. All donations go to the Billary-Cheshire Foundation.
With her propensity for fake humor, she should have been in the Republican debate.

If you love a flower, don’t pick it up.
Because if you pick it up it dies
and it ceases to be what you love.
So if you love a flower, let it be.
Love is not about possession.
Love is about appreciation.
(It’s on somebody’s facebook page, to which I will not link, because the page is full of stuff like that and “likes” and “wows” and things.
(One other thing: What happens to a flower if you do not pick it? Answer: It dies.
(That is what flowers do; they bloom and then they die. Will a flower live any less longer if I pick it and put it in a vase and keep it watered? Nope.
(You’re welcome.)

‘Damascus on the Chesapeake’
Baltimore city is a rough place in the best of times. It’s most famous for the TV show The Wire, where local crime lords murder one another over the right to poison one another with drugs. In real life, it’s most famous for the cops killing some local hood, setting off a short riot in the great tradition of #blacklivesmatter. Baltimore is a shit hole.
This was not always the case. In the 1950’s and into the 60’s, it was a thriving working class city. Then a lot of smart people decided that the polices that had worked for so long had to be thrown out and replaced with stuff they learned in college. The blacks rioted, burned big chunks of the city and the whites fled to the suburbs, taking their tax dollars with them. Baltimore never recovered from the 60’s.
The proof of that is the Freddy Gray incident. A reasonably stable community can handle things like a corruption scandal, a police scandal or a natural disaster. There’s enough human capital available so that resources can be temporarily diverted to the problem. You throw out the crooks, reform the cops or clean up the flood and then get back to business.
Dysfunctional cities on the knife’s edge can’t take a punch. In the case of Baltimore. the Freddy Gray incident sent the local government reeling, they blamed the cops, who then stopped doing their job, which is to hold the line against the barbarians. The result is a huge spike in crime. Baltimore has become a killing field again as the gangs figured out that the cops are not going to intervene.
There have been a lot of “solutions” tried for cities like Baltimore, none of which are based in observable reality. The hard cold truth is the place is like it is because it is run by the people running it. As Lee Kuan Yew observed, men are not equal in talents and only God can change that reality. The best we can do is make the most of what nature provided. In the case of Baltimore, the most the population can produce is a city similar to Lagos.
One way to not fix Baltimore is to import a bunch of new people, like Syrians for instance, into the city and hoping they can level the place up a notch.
The war in Syria is forcing millions to flee their homes, and the United States is working to accept 10,000 of the fleeing refugees over the next year.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Baltimore has resettled more than two dozen Syrians so far this year, and they are preparing to help more.
“They are desperate to seek safety,” the IRC’s executive director, Ruben Chandrasekar, said. “They are desperate to be given a new chance at a new life.”
The International Rescue Committee in Baltimore has welcomed 26 Syrians by providing them with the tools to succeed, including a furnished apartment and even employment.
They say their program is successful because refugees are eager to start their new lives free from persecution.
“They want nothing more than to get employed, play their taxes and be able to do the normal stuff you and I take for granted,” said Chandrasekar.
Nearly 90 percent of the refugees the IRC assists become self sufficient, which in turn helps Baltimore thrive as a city.
The word “thrive” is not what comes to mind, but perhaps in relative terms they are correct. Living in a blown out row house in East Baltimore is a step up from a blown up mud hut in the Near East. That and Syrians are unlikely to start street gangs based on the stylings of the hip-hop community. In a generation or two some will strap dynamite to their chest and run into the local Synagogue, but that’s a long time from now and whatever.
What you’re seeing here is a total disregard for the locals, who are a dumpster fire on their best days. Adding another burden to a city that can barely maintain civic order is criminal. Of course, the reason people like Ruben Chandrasekar think it is great is they live in the county and they get to feel like saints by helping foreigners come to America, without it costing them a dime.

Trump frightens the Establishment
Trump’s access “powers … terrify the establishment -- the mainstream media, the corporate elite, the RNC and the DNC and all others who embrace the status quo. The Donald -- not the faux socialist Bernie Sanders-- is today’s genuine radical presidential aspirant, the uncontrollable bull in the china shop of taboos, and elites clearly sense his power.”
If nothing else, “He has at least made it possible to have some discussion of what was once publicly unspeakable.”

‘… the headlines would be a disaster’
We deserve whatever we get, because we have put up with this for so long.
How long after Roe v Wade was the first body-harvesting business set up? I don’t know; probably not too long. Selling parts of aborted babies as, well, parts most likely depends upon “advances in medical science,” the kind of parts and usage. Someone somewhere said the first idea of pornographic photographs occurred within minutes of the first public display of paper-printed photography – An entrepreneur said, “I can make money selling photographs of naked people.”
So it must have been with harvesting parts of aborted babies. An entrepreneur pondered, “Why let all that tissue go to waste? There are uses for arms and legs, brains and lungs.”
“’We’ve just been working with people who want particular tissues, like, you know, they want cardiac, or they want eyes, or they want neural,’ says Dr. Westhoff to a prospective fetal organ buyer. ‘Certainly, everything we provide–oh, gonads! Oh my God, gonads. Everything we provide is fresh.’ Westhoff continues, ‘Obviously, we would have the potential for a huge P.R. issue in doing this,’ before offering to introduce the buyers to “national office abortion people” from Planned Parenthood.”
http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2015/09/15/10th-planned-parenthood-video-fresh-hearts-eyes-and-gonads-for-sale/
I used to be one of those “You can’t tell a woman what she can do with her body” people. And then I began dating and married a young Christian woman, Christian in the best sense of the word, and going to Bible class every Sunday and services every Sunday and spent three semesters at Harding College and had a Bible class or two every semester. I did not convert to Christianity, but I did learn about the holiness of innocent life and not allowing children to pass through the fire of Molech.
And spoken by Yeshua before he became Jesus: "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” -- Matthew 18:10-11.
Over the years I have written about the evil murders for the sake of convenience, of the children born alive but allowed to die because money had passed hands and the contracted outcome was to be a dead baby. I wrote and argued, but I never bombed an abortion clinic or put a bullet into the head of an abortion doctor. Maybe I could have saved lives by doing more than writing and talking.

Four Job Corps students hack boy, bury him alive
(This was a month ago, but the story deserves full telling.)
Four Florida students hacked a 17-year-old boy with a machete and buried him alive before two of the killers celebrated by having sex near the murder scene, police said.
Desiray Strickland, 18, was arrested Wednesday, becoming the fourth charged in the gruesome slaughter of Jose Amaya Guardado on June 28, Miami-Dade police said.
Kaheem Arbelo, 20, Jonathan Lucas, 18, and Christian Colon, 19, were arrested and confessed to the crime last week, police said.
The twisted friend group plotted for two weeks, even digging the grave and hiding a machete beforehand in a wooded area near the Homestead Job Corps campus, where all five students lived about 35 miles south of Miami, according to an arrest report obtained by the Miami Herald.
On June 28, the disturbed teens lured Guardado to the woods after the unsuspecting teen asked permission from the school to leave campus to buy food, police said.
Arbelo, Lucas and Colon then ambushed Guardado and Arbelo struck him repeatedly with the machete, police said.
Strickland "complained that she had missed the first series of machete strikes because she had walked away for a few minutes to urinate in the woods," according to the arrest report.
Outnumbered, Guardado tried to stop the murder, but the sick sadists kept going.
"The victim made one last attempt to fight off the attackers," a detective wrote, "at which time, (Arbelo) struck the victim with the machete several more times until the victim's face caved in."
The four teens then ordered Guardado into the shallow grave and buried him as he took his last breaths, police said. They burned their clothes and Guardado's belongings.
As Lucas and Colon headed back to campus, Strickland and Arbelo stayed behind to have sex, police said.
His body was discovered three days later by his brothers, who had desperately searched for him after he was reported missing.
They first saw two feet in a burned area and called police, who extricated the body.
The body was unrecognizible and decomposed," cousin Ana Morales wrote on a family fundraising page. "His brothers could not resist to see the body. They were crazy with grief hoping it was not Jose."
Investigators believe the school bullies slaughtered Guardado over a debt he owed to Arbelo, who is a suspected drug dealer on the Homestead campus. The pair were roommates, NBC Miami reported.
"Why would they do this?" a relative asked the station in Spanish.
The family said it wants the death penalty for their son's killers.
Arbelo, Lucas and Colon confessed on video to the killings, but Strickland was not so cooperative, police said.
She shoved and head-butted a detective before getting shackled in the interview room, police said.
Using screws from a nearby electrical outlet, Strickland tried to pick her handcuffs and then etched "MPD Go to Hell" on a table, according to the arrest report.
Arbelo, Strickland and Lucas have been charged with first-degree murder and Colon faces a second-degree murder and conspiracy charges, according to jail records. Arbelo and Lucas face charges of first degree conspiracy and evidence tampering.
Strickland also faces resisting an officer with violence, battery of an officer and criminal mischief.
They are being held without bond.
A fifth arrest is expected this week.
Guardado, the son of immigrants, sold ice cream on the weekends to help make ends meet.
He was a "peaceful young man and he was fun with his friends," Morales wrote. He was shy, which some people took as "antisocial."
"A crime is bad, but what Jose suffered was horrible," she wrote.
The Job Corps school and vocational program, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, houses at-risk students between the ages of 16 and 24 at 125 campuses across the country.
"The safety and security of Job Corps students is our top priority," the school said in a statement. "Steps already have been taken to strengthen security at the Homestead center."

A few persistent food myths, listed
From http://maggiesfarm.anotherdotcom.com/
I have repeatedly insisted that a "healthy human diet" cannot be defined. As omnivores, humans can survive and thrive on many sorts of diets. Each culture has its own food biases, myths, preferences.
It is an imaginary First-world problem to obsess about food as if food were medicine, magical, or potential toxins in our civilization of revolutionary food abundance, quality, variety, safety, and flavor.
(We have discussed weight loss and physical fitness ad nauseum here, so this is not about those special nutritional areas.)
Old wive's tales, obsolete studies, superstitions, misrepresented press reports, etc. These are my own views via the literature. Do your own research if you want. This applies to otherwise relatively normal people without serious ailments:
- Coffee is bad for you. Wrong.
- You should drink X glasses of water per day. Nonsense. If you are peeing, you are hydrated.
- Beer and coffee are dehydrating. False. They are just enhanced water.
- Red meat is bad for you. Nonsense. Where did that myth come from? The Federal Chicken Board?
- Organic foods are "better for you." Zero evidence for that, but there is evidence that organic foods have fewer nutrients. Not that it matters; it is de minimus.
- You need roughage to prevent colon cancer. That is disproven. It will give you larger BMs if that is what you enjoy.
- Fruit and fruit juice is good for you. Nope, they are just flavored sugar, what I term warm popsicles. Tasty though. Fruit is just a dessert as the Italians understand, not real food. Worried about scurvy, are you? Fruits are not really healthy foods, but are good sources of sugar if you are sugar-deprived.
- Eggs are bad for you. Wrong. They are an excellent food, actually one of the few "perfect" foods (ie balances of fat, protein, and carb). A "perfect food" means you can thrive on it, alone, for a long time.
- Carbs and starches are bad. Nope. They are great foods as long as you are not dealing with a weight problem. With the egg, potato is the other "perfect" food item. Well, milk too.
- Eating fat makes you fat. Wrong. Excess carbs make people fat. Carbs, plus general gluttony.
- Three meals per day. Why? It's just a habit. For youth and manual laborers, certainly - plus snacks.
- Vegetarian diets are healthier. Utter cultish nonsense. Active humans and growing kids need plenty of good protein for normal growth and muscle maintenance and repair, which is difficult for vegetarians to obtain without extra effort and expense. Low-protein cultures generally have littler people with less strength.
- Gluten? Don't get me started.
- Salt is bad. No, it is essential for health. If you have dangerous blood pressure, take a pill.
- Vegetables and greens are "healthy." Not especially. They are just cheap, sometimes tasty, tummy-fillers. If you hate all veggies and greens (even steamed spinach with garlic), take a multivitamin once or twice a week and forget about it.
- Low cholesterol diets? There is no meaningful relation between dietary cholesterol and heart disease unless you have severe familial hypercholesterolemia in which case you take a pill and hope for the best.
- Alcohol is unhealthy. Nope, good for body, soul, and cheerful companionship if not abused.
- White vs. Brown breads, rice, and sugars? The brown thing is pure foolishness, except for flavor preferences. If you need brown rice for the microscopic protein in it, you need Food Stamps desperately. Get an EBT card and buy yourself a Big Mac.
- Fish oils are healthy. A health-food scam, same as "organic." Fatty fishes are delicious, though: shad, tuna, swordfish, trout and salmon, bluefish. Even a baked mackerel with garlic and rosemary.
- "Free range" is better. If it's a cultural, moral, or flavor thing for you, go for it if you can spare the cash. I'd like to see a blind tasting. I do hate to see animals raised in meat factories, but all animal husbandry is meat factories. Nursery schools and day care are caged meat factories too, but we don't eat the product.

Navy Secretary ‘Threw us under the bus,’ women Marines say
“Marines involved in a controversial experiment evaluating a gender-integrated infantry unit say they feel betrayed by Navy Secretary Ray Mabus after he criticized the results of a nine-month study that found women are injured more frequently and shoot less accurately in simulated combat conditions.
“’Our secretary of the Navy completely rolled the Marine Corps and the entire staff that was involved in putting this [experiment] in place under the bus,’ said Sgt. Danielle Beck, a female anti-armor gunner with the task force.”
…
Sgt. Beck also said the women Marines in the study were not what one might consider of average abilities:
“’The caliber of the women in Weapons Company are few and far between in the Marine Corps,’ she added. ‘They are probably some of the most professional women that anybody will ever have chance to work with, and the heart and drive and determination that they had is incomparable to most women in the Marine Corps.’”

A threat from the government
I pulled the big envelope from the stack of mail and immediately noticed the return address, all caps and in bold: “U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE” and “U.S. CENSUS BUREAU.”
The U.S. does a census every 10 years, I considered. What does the Census Bureau want from me five years after its last intrusive questionnaire?
The envelope contains “The American Community Survey Form” bold letters announced. And for anyone who hesitates: “YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW.”
Oh. Is it now.
For citizens who want a peachy-keen explanation, the Census Bureau provides touchy-feely stuff at its web site:
http://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/about.html
There, we of the masses learn: “The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey that provides vital information on a yearly basis about our nation and its people. Information from the survey generates data that help determine how more than $400 billion in federal and state funds are distributed each year.
“Through the ACS, we know more about jobs and occupations, educational attainment, veterans, whether people own or rent their home, and other topics. Public officials, planners, and entrepreneurs use this information to assess the past and plan the future. When you respond to the ACS, you are doing your part to help your community plan hospitals and schools, support school lunch programs, improve emergency services, build bridges, and inform businesses looking to add jobs and expand to new markets, and more.”
Should a mass wish to know, those “other topics” are listed here:
http://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/guidance/subjects.html
Just as I was about to put on my “Don’t Tread on Me” hat, I saw that the mandatory, required by law intrusion had been misdelivered. Right house number, wrong street.
Rather than trust USPS, I will take the form to the correct address. I will say to the addressee: This was delivered to me by mistake. I am delivering it to you, so you can give to the government whatever information it so desires without fear of breaking federal law and subsequent arrest. You are welcome.

EIB standards were just too difficult, so now anyone gets one
Major Changes Announced For Army’s Expert Infantryman Badge Test
Jack S. McQuack September 13, 2015
FORT BENNING, Ga. — The Army is planning major changes to its Expert Infantryman’s Badge (EIB) testing standards, according to a leaked document obtained by Duffel Blog. The existence of the document was first reported by the Army Times.
Most significantly, officers will no longer be required to attend EIB training, testing, or the award ceremony and, starting December 1st, incoming second lieutenants will be awarded an EIB as a college graduation present.
Several other changes are notable. The EIB course will now culminate with a “DA FORM 2823 – Sworn Statement creative writing” event that awards soldiers with the best cover-up stories for their war crimes. Further, participants will complete a timed “Active Shooter Drill,” in which all EIB participants will have 30 seconds to find a concealed position and place self-indulgent, wildly inaccurate calls to global media outlets.
The Command Launch Unit (CLU) and FGM-148 Javelin (the man-portable fire-and-forget anti-tank missile fielded to replace the M47 Dragon anti-tank missile) will be removed because budget and ROE restrictions ensure soldiers will never actually use the weapon system. Likewise, grenade ID color markings will be eliminated because they discriminate against color-blind soldiers.
To promote health and wellness, soldiers will be required to identify eight out of ten STDs in a room devoid of light by smell and feel alone.
Females who take the test will get three chances each to pass the PT test, road march, land navigation, infantry skill lanes, and Objective Bull evacuation test. Males will be eliminated after a single failure.
A timed police call will be added before and after the assemble, disassemble M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) station.
Soldiers with Combat Infantryman’s Badges (CIB) will face non-judicial punishment for laughing and pointing at soldiers with EIBs.
Command Sgt. Maj. Wilbert Engram, the senior enlisted soldier at the U.S. Army Infantry School, addressed the changes in a press conference at Fort Benning.
After several questions focused on whether the new standards would lower morale and expose 97% of the infantry for not being experts at the jobs they love to brag about, Engram’s response was blunt.
“At the end of the day it is not just about readiness, Espirit de Corps, or forcing company grade leaders to stay late tracking completion statistics that will be irrelevant in a matter of days,” Engram said. “Well, maybe it is about those things, but mostly it is about protecting the badge that I and other senior leaders already earned under less stringent requirements.”
“And besides,” Engram added, “we need to figure out a way to make people feel inferior now that every idiot who has ever heard a mortar round has a CIB.”
Investigative reporters Maxx Butthurt, Jay, and Dirty contributed to this report.

Yeah, we ordered a study, but we don’t like the results, so …
“All-male ground combat units in the Marines were faster, more lethal and less injured than units with mixed genders, according to a Marine Corps study that looked at integrating women into all service jobs.
“’All male squads, teams and crews demonstrated higher performance levels on 69 percent of tasks evaluated (93 of 134) as compared to gender-integrated squads, teams and crews,’ according a summary of the report released Thursday.
“. . . . The study found all-male squads were faster in each tactical movement than those with both genders, according to the summary. The differences were greater when they were carrying heavy weapons and ammunition.
“Also, all-male rifle groups had better accuracy than integrated squads, according to the summary. And women had more injuries such as stress fractures.”
But Navy Sec Ray Mabus told NPR the report “is, if not flawed, then not in keeping with his broader view that a ‘more diverse force is a stronger force. A more diverse mindset makes you a stronger force. If you have the same outlook, if you have the same mindset, you don’t get much innovation.’”

And then came reality
Last week, the German government said the country could take in 500,000 refugees annually, perhaps more.
Today, however:
“Germany is to introduce temporary controls on its border with Austria to cope with the influx of migrants, the interior minister has said.
“Thomas de Maiziere said refugees could ‘not choose’ their host countries and called on other EU states to do more.
“Trains between Germany and Austria have been suspended for 12 hours.
“Germany's vice-chancellor has said the country is ‘at the limit of its capabilities’ as more than 13,000 migrants arrived in Munich on Saturday.
“Germany expects 800,000 migrants to arrive this year.”
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/germany-to-impose-border-controls/ar-AAeeSFQ?li=AAa0dzB&ocid=HPCDHP
(800,000 is somewhat more than 500,000, but Germany has brought the problem upon itself with statements that all refugees are welcome. De Maizier’s statement is the first claiming refugees cannot choose which part of Europe they will live.)

After we get rid of those Confederate flags and statues …
… let’s look at this whole “America” thing. I mean, why is this part of the world named after an Italian map maker?
Bulgarian archaeologists find 2,976 Roman-era coins in clay pot
“The coins appear to have been collected over a period of more than a century, with the earliest ones bearing the profile of emperor Vespasian, who reigned in 69-79 CE. The latest coins bear the visage of emperor Commodus – he of Gladiator infamy, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix in the film – who reigned in 177-192 CE.”

Drugs, sex and … Where’s my wallet?
A man met a woman at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Paris, Texas. The woman, so the man says, later contacted him “wanting to do drugs and have sex,” a police report says.
Early Wednesday morning, the man told police his wallet and drugs were stolen by the woman and a man friend.
Now: Does the anonymous part of Narcotics Anonymous count when a participant is accused of criminal activity? The dude knows the woman's name. Maybe. Unless she didn't tell her real name. Nah.
https://www.eparisextra.com/911/101369/man-claims-he-was-robbed-of-his-drugs-and-wallet-in-motel-room
Then, who knows what really happened? Maybe something entirely different, and the man got to police first? In the drug world, truth is not simply elusive; oftentimes it does not exist.

Coming to a country near you, and probably just in time for Christmas
About those Syrian women and children refugees …
Almost three-quarters are men; almost half are not Syrian.

Danish railroad cancels German trains.
“The refugees refused to register with Danish authorities, which would mean having to apply for asylum in Denmark or returning to Germany, whereas they want to seek asylum in Sweden.”
(So I crossed your border, but you can’t make me register. I’m going to Sweden.)

And – Surprise, surprise! More are coming.
“The prospect of a new tide of war refugees -- from Afghanistan to Iraq and North Africa -- poses a daunting challenge for EU policymakers already scrambling for a unified response to the overwhelming influx of people.
"’The flood gates are open -– and this is our best chance to reach Europe,’ said 28-year-old Mirwais, a former translator at an American base in the volatile eastern province of Kunar.”

The Z Man you sometimes have to take with suspicious mind …
… but his writing and observations are good.

Bad Whites
The place I usually get my drugs is on the edge of the ghetto. It serves the white ghetto and the soft black ghetto adjoining it. There also a Ferguson like white working class area there, which appears to be going Hispanic. The last time I was sent into the heart of darkness so I was grateful to avoid that this time.
In line to buy drugs, I spied a typical white trash couple that is a common feature of the white ghetto. They were in shorts and flip-flops, exposing an array of tattoos. One had a cane, but he kept forgetting which leg had the limp. He is probably working a disability scam, something so common that lawyers advertise for it around here now. It’s also threatening to bankrupt the system.
The two of them had iPhones, which is ironic. Combined they probably have a two-digit IQ yet they feel the need to have expensive smart phones. Both had headphones so that means they have been downloading music on someone’s dime, because what good is an iPhone without music?
The tattoos always get me. Poor people like display items. Drive through the black ghetto and you will see expensive sports cars packed in front of run down housing blocks. Poor whites like cars too, but they have worse tastes in cars than blacks. Instead they invest their creative skills in ink. The two I saw today had elaborate Celtic images on their arms and legs.
Lots of people on the Dissident Right talk about the black underclass, but that’s easy. It’s celebrated on TV as if it is high culture. What never gets mentioned is the expanding white ghetto that is replacing what used to be the white working class. Those old solid neighborhoods where fathers worked two jobs are collapsing into lands where no one works and everyone is on the dole.
The two crackers I saw at the pharmacy are typical. The one with the fake limp is living off the woman. She had the EBT card and their Medicaid card. I’m pretty sure they were picking up a pain killer as one asked the other if they were “V” or “M” meaning Oxy. They call it hillbilly heroine for a reason and that reason is white trash love Oxy.
That’s the difference between the black ghetto and the white ghetto. The black ghetto is ruled by young black males. Older males who survived, get the hell out and stay out. The women are either baby mamas or their mothers. The white ghetto skews older, with many more older men.
There’s also less crime in the white ghetto. White teens commit crime, but they fear blacks and Hispanics so they keep their crime small. They don’t organize street gangs or battle for drug turf. That allows drug taking to be a family activity. It also means their intellectual capital, if you will, is invested in gaming the system for benefits. Whole neighborhoods are on disability in the white ghetto.
That’s the incredible thing about the ghetto. The women know how to work the system. They get a lot of help from government, but they have enough smarts to game the programs. On the other hand, they lack the smarts to avoid keeping a deadbeat under their roof who knocks them up between drug binges. There’s something at work, other than intelligence and education.
Something else that does not get mentioned is just how multicultural the underclass is compared to the over-class. It’s not strange to see a fat white girt with braids pushing a stroller containing a caramel colored baby. Hispanics and whites hang out together far more than you would ever see amongst good whites.
There’s a great blending going in the underclass, even though our betters insist otherwise. I wish I had a nickel for every time I was in a room full of upper middle-class white people bemoaning the latent racism of the poor whites. The irony escapes them because they never go anywhere near the ghetto.
It’s just a part of the Brazilification of America. I bet something similar is happening in Europe. Instead of blacks, whites and Hispanics, it’s Arabs, Africans and lower class whites. In a generation or two, the West will be a vast sea of caramel faces ruled over by a sparkly white ruling elite. That’s South America.
(COMMENT: Our ruling whites are like the audience in "Radical Chic," but without the black fascists.)

‘Don’t look for handouts,’ Denmark says
For immigrants granted entrance, Denmark promises 50 percent cut in benefits, five-year residency before relatives can join.
Opposition party official Jen Rhode says prime minister should “do some field studies so she could actually see what the conditions are like in Syria.”
Well, Mr. Rhode, you might want to study what happens with unlimited Muslim immigration, or maybe fix the “conditions” in Syria.

When volcanoes were dead
Fifty and sixty years ago in geography classes, my wife and I learned there were no active, dangerous volcanoes remaining on Earth. The last new volcano had formed years before in a corn field in Mexico. All others were dead.
So, when an archaeologist or anthropologist or other studier of things ancient says “We know for a fact …,” I figure, “No you don’t.”
Occasionally a studier of old thing will speak truth: The more we discover, the more we don’t know.

Revolutionary girl
Stuck forever in my mind is a picture from the 1956 uprising in Hungary – a young blonde woman wearing a skirt, black boots and a light-colored turtle neck sweater, PPSH submachine gun slung over a shoulder, looking a map held by one of three young men in an alley in Budapest. A wooden fence is behind the group gives concealment from Soviet or Hungarian government forces.
I have not found the photograph, even though one would think the internet has every picture ever taken.
The Hungarian uprising was on television news every night and front page in every daily newspaper for almost three weeks in the fall of 1956. The people of Budapest rose up and threw over the established Communist government, killed some government police and soldiers, but then the Russians returned and did away with the revolution and its revolutionaries.
From TV news films, I learned of the effectiveness of a gasoline bomb against tanks.
I look for the picture now and then, sometimes thinking maybe it was my imagination. I was 10 years old.
Here is a picture of another Hungarian girl, Erika, 15, in Budapest, 1956.
http://forthesakeofhumanities-10.wikispaces.com/file/view/Girl_Freedom_fighter.jpeg/340111360/480x640/Girl_Freedom_fighter.jpeg
Here is her story.
Erika Szeles was a young soldier and nurse in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. When her photo was taken by a Danish photographer her image graced the covers of several Euopean magazines and she became an international symbol of the revolution.
Szeles was born to Jewish parents in 1941 and raised solely by her mother after her father’s death in a Nazi concentration camp. At age 14 she trained as a cook at the Hotel Béke in Budapest. While her mother was a hardline communist, Szeles had an older boyfriend who converted her to the anti-communist cause.
When Hungary’s revolution against the Soviet Union began on October 23rd 1956, she was 15 years old. When her boyfriend formed a resistance group with some fellow students she chose to join them. She quickly learned how to use a sub-machine gun and fought alongside the group in several skirmishes with Soviet soldiers.
The iconic photo above of Szeles holding her sub-machine gun was taken around November 1st 1956. A few days afterward she was approached by friends who, knowing that Russian divisions were pouring into Hungary, feared for her safety. They argued that she was too young to be fighting and she agreed to put down her gun and to instead serve the resistance as a Red Cross nurse.
On November 8th the resistance group she was with became involved in a heavy firefight with Russian soldiers in the center of Budapest. When a friend of hers was wounded she ran forward to help him. Despite being unarmed and wearing a Red Cross uniform she was gunned down and died instantly. She was buried in the Kerepesi Churchyard in Budapest.
Szeles’s story remained largely unknown for some 50 years, until in 2008 journalists were able to uncover the truth about the young woman from the infamous picture. She is now recognised as a martyr of the Hungarian Revolution.

It ate the bikini babes!
That is not supposed to happen. But the Big Ass Spider ate at least three bikini babes! Three!
In horror films, bikini babes are sacrosanct, untouchable. (Cinematically and physical.) You get bikini babes playing volleyball, a big ass monster of any kind does not eat them. A bikini babe hits a volleyball too far, another bikini babe goes to get the ball, she sees the monster, screams, and all the bikini babes run away.
But the Big Ass Spider ate at least three. She shot out web stuff and caught one and dragged it into her big mouth. Then she ate another and then third.
For a while, it seemed she might even catch and eat a child. But director Mike Mendez did not break that rule. In horror movies, children often are threatened, but never eaten.
So if you see a movie where the monster eats kids, blame Mendez. He let bikini babes become spider food.

Delivery
A florist made a delivery a few days ago. When I signed for the flowers, I noticed the florist's open billing book with clear plastic and several bills of $1 denomination showing. A hint, maybe. I had only $20 bills in my billfold. Hint taken, but "Thank you" as gratuity.
Fleeing the war in Syria, or Invasion of Europe continues
Pakistanis, Chinese, Indians, Africans, Turks – all find Europe an entitlement-rich candy land. And even some Syrians.
“What Suleiman the Magnificent could not achieve by force of arms in the 16th century, his descendants now complete by force of altruism. Imagine the fury of Europe’s past invaders to learn that all conquest required was columns of filthy screaming men and pregnant women. A military resource always smirking right under their nose!”

(TV reports show mostly women and children, but the majority of the “immigrants” are men, 18-40.)
From Steve Sailer:
“There’s much discussion in the press about where it would be best for Arab refugees from Syria to settle: Would they be best off in Munich? London? Reykjavik? Or Minneapolis? Which white people most need the blessings of diversity provided by Sunnis and Shi’ites? (Obviously, Syrian Arabs couldn’t go to other Arab countries like Qatar. Don’t be silly.)
“The sophisticated reasoning of 2015 is that if you and your countrymen blow up your own country through your sheer mutual bloodymindedness, you therefore have an unassailable moral claim to inhabit the nicest countries on other continents. If you are a young fellow in your prime, why should you have to settle for a refugee camp in neighboring Turkey when there are Swedish girls unmolested in Malmo and English girls unpimped in Rotherham?
“Think of the children!
“Granted, most of the other times the West has imported lots of Muslims, we just wound up with dead cartoonists and gang-raped 12-year-old girls all over the place.
“But, that’s irrelevant, because This Time Will Be Different!

“Why?
“Because. Just because.”

Laredo man carves his name on Alamo wall
By Scott Huddleston
Staff Writer
Alamo officials credited a female tour guide and a security officer at the historic site with catching a 22-year-old Laredo man before he finished carving his name into a 250-year-old interior limestone wall of the state shrine late Thursday.
Julio Perez was charged with criminal mischief and placed in jail on a $20,000 bond, San Antonio police officials said.
According to a police report, the tour guide saw the man carving “Julio” into a buttress wall of the Monk’s Burial Room, a side room in the Alamo’s mission church, and told him to stop. At a news conference today, Alamo officials said the man and a female with him attempted to flee through the rear door. An Alamo Ranger caught him, placed him in handcuffs and contacted police.
“Desecration of any part of these hallowed grounds, especially the walls of the Alamo chapel, will not be tolerated. And we will support prosecution to the furthest extent of the law,” Alamo Rangers Chief Mark Adkins said at the news conference at the historic site.
The room has been temporarily closed to the public until preservation experts can study the damage and determine what repairs can be made.

Fake soldiers
My wife gets on me about my sometimes doubt of accuracy of men who claim Vietnam status. I said, “I don’t doubt everybody. I didn’t doubt the Marine helicopter pilot at the dog park here last week.” I tried to explain. “It’s the way somebody talks. It’s not just what he says, but how he says it.”
Like the “I Was a Navy Seal” post from a few weeks ago. Nobody goes around advertising his Navy Seal-ness, just like nobody announces to a stranger, “I’ve got PTSD” or “I’m 100 percent disabled.” I did see a man wearing a cap that said “Disabled Military Veteran,” but he was a distance away, so I could not thank him for his service and find out which service he was in.
My wife has a friend here, whose husband is a Vietnam veteran. An "airborne unit," the woman said. She said her husband’s unit has reunions, but he doesn’t go, because he is one of three survivors from Vietnam. All other members were killed there. I spoke with the man a few minutes a couple of weeks ago, but military service did not come up.
In Arkansas, my wife had a friend whose Vietnam veteran husband was dying in a hospital and “not taking it well.” I said I would visit, just spend some time. Then my wife said the woman said her husband was a POW in Laos. He was one of three Americans held in a jungle location. He escaped, the woman said, but he had to kill the other two Americans because they were trying to stop him. I checked lists of American POWs. His name was not listed.

Invasion of Europe
“By BI: Millions of Muslim invaders posing as ‘refugees’ are flooding Europe, this year more than ever before. The savages, represented mainly by young N. African and Middle Eastern strongmen, are being sent to create an Islamic Army for the goal of conquering Europe, while wreaking havoc on innocent citizens who are being robbed, assaulted, and raped by these Muslim thugs.

Town in China has too many women
Easier to find girlfriend than job
Serina Sandhu
Thursday 03 September 2015
For some it may be classed as 'three-timing', but in one Chinese city having three girlfriends is apparently seen as the norm.
One man from the city of Dongguan, in China’s Guangdong province, has even told media it would be “embarrassing” to have only one girlfriend.
The polyamorous attitude is down to a huge gender imbalance in the city.
The population disparity is reportedly 89 men for every 100 women because local bosses in Dongguan - a centre for manufacturing - shun male employees for more reliable female workers.
One man told local TV, according to News.com.au, it was easier to find a girlfriend than a job in the town, while factory worker Li Bin said: “I have three girlfriends, and all of them know about each other. Many of my friends also have many girlfriends.”
The situation was “very normal”, according to Xiao Lin, MailOnline reported.
“Young and beautiful factory girls are everywhere. They’re simple and easy to get along with, why not have several?”
“It would be too embarrassing for someone to have just one girlfriend. Everyone will laugh at him,” he said, adding it was an acceptable activity for people when they were young.
Many men in Dongguan have odd jobs and casual work and consequently, the women will pay for their way, mirror.co.uk reported.
A Yi, who is unemployed, said: “There are plenty of women in Dongguan, and they don’t want any money. They just want a
man.”
The online newspaper reported that the Guangdong Women’s Rights and Information Service said the women ignored the partners because the arrangement was better than being lonely.

Demonstrators oppose fund cuts for Christian schools
“JERUSALEM – Police say about 2,500 striking demonstrators have gathered outside the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem to protest against the slashing of funds for Christian schools.
“Christian school administrators accuse Israel of cutting their funding as a tactic to pressure them to join the Israeli public school system — a move they say would interfere with the schools' Christian values and high academic achievements.
“Some 33,000 students in 47 schools have been on strike since the school year began on Sept. 1. Arab lawmakers joined students, parents and principals at Sunday's demonstration.
“Protesters complain of discrimination since Israel continues to fully fund large private school networks that cater to ultra-Orthodox Jews while it slashes the Christians' budget.
“Ragheed Massad, a student from Nazareth, said ‘there is no equality for our schools.’"
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/09/06/thousands-protest-slashing-public-funding-for-christian-schools-in-israel/?intcmp=hplnws
Not surprisingly, Al Jazeera puts it this way: ‘Palestinian teachers, students strike in Israel over school budget cuts.’
http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/9/3/israels-christian-schools-on-strike-over-funding.html
Al Jazeera also says: “In the past, Israel covered 60 to 75 percent of the schools’ operating budgets. Over the past five years, however, the Ministry of Education decreased its funding to just 29 percent, according to Haaretz. To recoup the difference, schools raised tuitions. But last summer Israel imposed a cap on tuition hikes set so low that many schools say they can no longer afford to cover their expenses.”

Ben Kuroki, Army Air Force veteran, dies at 98
Kuroki "earned his way onto a bomber crew and flew 58 bomber missions over Europe, North Africa and Japan during the war. He took part in the August 1943 raid over Nazi oil fields in Ploesti, Romania, that killed 310 fliers in his group. He was captured after his plane ran out of fuel over Morocco, but he managed to escape with crewmates to England."
Associated Press
CAMARILLO, Calif. – Ben Kuroki, who overcame the American military's discriminatory policies to become the only Japanese American to fly over Japan during World War II, has died. He was 98.
Kuroki died Tuesday at his Camarillo, California, home, where he was under hospice care, his daughter Julie Kuroki told the Los Angeles Times on Saturday.
The son of Japanese immigrants who was raised on a Hershey, Nebraska, farm, Kuroki and his brother, Fred, volunteered for service after the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor.
They were initially rejected by recruiters who questioned the loyalty of the children of Japanese immigrants. Undeterred, the brothers drove 150 miles to another recruiter, who allowed them to sign up.
At the time, the Army Air Forces banned soldiers of Japanese ancestry from flying, but Kuroki earned his way onto a bomber crew and flew 58 bomber missions over Europe, North Africa and Japan during the war. He took part in the August 1943 raid over Nazi oil fields in Ploesti, Romania, that killed 310 fliers in his group. He was captured after his plane ran out of fuel over Morocco, but he managed to escape with crewmates to England.
Because of his Japanese ancestry, he was initially rejected when he asked to serve on a B-29 bomber that was to be used in the Pacific. But after repeated requests and a review of his stellar service record, Secretary of War Harry Stimson granted an exception.
Crew members nicknamed him "Most Honorable Son," and the War Department gave him a Distinguished Flying Cross. He was saluted by Time magazine in 1944 under the headline "HEROES: Ben Kuroki, American."
He was hailed a hero and a patriot at a time when tens of thousands of Japanese Americans were confined at internment camps amid fears of a Japanese invasion of the West Coast.
After the war, Kuroki enrolled at the University of Nebraska, where he obtained a journalism degree. He published a weekly newspaper in Nebraska for a short time before moving to Michigan and finally to California, where he retired as the news editor of Ventura Star-Free Press in 1984.
In 2005, he received the U.S. Army Distinguished Service Medal, one of the nation's highest military honors.
"I had to fight like hell for the right to fight for my own country," Kuroki said at the award ceremony in Lincoln, Nebraska. "And I now feel vindication."

Alternative medical bureaucracy grows ... and grows and grows
First budget for Office of Alternative Medicine -- $2 million.
Budget after 30 years and a name change to National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health -- $521 million.
‘The Alternative Medicine Racket: How the Feds Fund Quacks’
http://reason.com/reasontv/2015/09/04/alternative-medicine-racket
(Medicine has been a racket since insurance companies got involved. Was a time when people paid out a doctor’s bill by the month. Was a time when people could afford that $5 a month. Now the system has research at drug company labs and medical machine companies, paid-for research at university labs, and expectations of cures if a patient or his/her family has enough money or enough insurance. Was a time people got old and died.
(My father died too young, at 69. His father died at 75; his mother, at 96. My mother died at 88; her parents, in their early 70s. Because of machines and drugs, my father was kept alive a week from his initial heart attack. My mother spent her last three years in a nursing home. My mother-in-law died last year at age 88, in our home. She could have lived maybe a few more months or a year in a nursing home or hospital, but with tubes attached and machines pumping medicines.
(Off subject, but I do not agree with people who tell doctors “You do whatever is necessary,” and the relative has machine breathing, feeding and medicating, 24/7.)

Natural born rednecks
“A special police unit has been created in Russia's North Caucasus region to clamp down on ‘uncontrolled joy’ when unruly couples celebrate their weddings. The 40-strong force will patrol the republic of Adygea to make sure wedding-goers drive safely and that nobody fires their weapons from car windows, according to the Tass news agency.
“The new unit was announced by the region's Interior Minister Alexander Rechitsky. He said: ‘The wedding police will put a stop to the complex situation with the manifestation of uncontrolled at joy wedding party convoys. This is a precedent for Russia.’
“According to the BBC the people of Adygea have a reputation for partying hard, and weddings there often involve celebratory gunfire and driving around in noisy convoys. The ‘wedding police’ will be the first such unit in Russia, and will keep an eye on popular routes that wedding motorcade participants use as their planned itineraries.
“Earlier this summer a 27-year-old man was fined 50,000 rubles ($750) for firing his handgun outside a local wedding registry office. A court also ordered his handgun confiscated.”

Daman Wayans on Cosby and accusers
"If I was him, I would divorce my wife, give her all my money, and then I would go do a deposition," he said in the interview. "I would light one of them three-hour cigars. I’d have some wine and maybe a quaalude, and I would just go off, because I don’t believe that he was raping."
“How big is his p---- that it gives you amnesia for 40 years?" Wayans says in the interview. "If you listen to them talk, they go, ‘Well, the first time…’ The first time? B----, how many times did it happen? Just listen to what they’re saying and some of them really is unrape-able. You just look at them and go, ‘You don’t want that. Get outta here.’”

Polar bears besiege Russian research station
“Five hungry polar bears have surrounded a team of unarmed researchers at a remote outpost in northern Russia.
“The bears have settled in the fields outside a weather station on the island of Vaygach in the Arctic Sea, preventing researchers from leaving the building to conduct their work, the World Wide Fund for Nature in Russia said in a statement.
“The team, which consists of two meteorologists and an engineer, tried to scare them off with flares, but the bears were undeterred — and the Russian WWF says the team has no other weapons at its disposal.
“The bears sleep near the station and have been seen fighting with one another outside the building in recent days, one of the researchers at the station told Viktor Nikiforov, the head of the WWF Polar Bear Patrol project.

60,000 saiga die in four days in Kazakhstan
Researchers say bacteria played a role in death of almost half of Kazakhstan’s saiga antelope.
"The extent of this die-off, and the speed it had, by spreading throughout the whole calving herd and killing all the animals, this has not been observed for any other species. "It's really unheard of." – Geoecologist Steffan Zuther.
http://www.livescience.com/52032-saiga-die-off-mystery.html
“A similar mass die-off of 400,000 saigas occurred in 1988, and veterinarians reported similar symptoms. But because that die-off occurred during Soviet times, researchers simply listed Pasteurellosis, the disease caused by Pasteurella, as the cause and performed no other investigation, Zuther added.”

Pro-Hamas and pro-PLA will believe anything bad and evil said about Israel, but the video of an Israeli soldier arresting a supposedly 12-year-old Palestinian boy with a broken arm simply did not pass the BS test.
It turns out the boy’s sister, mother and father have a history of making false anti-Israel videos, and this was just another.

This story has everything from a Palestinian piece …
… except Israeli soldiers. And it reportedly happened in Azerbaijan.
‘Armenian troops accused of injuring Azerbaijani civilians’
“According to the ministry, two women and a minor girl were injured when Armenian soldiers allegedly sprayed a wedding tent with gunfire in Tartar city’s Kapanli Village.”
Women hurt, a girl hurt, a wedding party, no Palestinian … uh Azerbaijan men involved anywhere.

Uninhabitable Gaza not because of global warming?
Doesn’t global warming cause everything?
“GENEVA, Switzerland, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The United Nations' trade and development arm on Tuesday painted a bleak picture for the Palestinian-held and highly contested territory of Gaza, saying the strip could cease to be habitable within five years if the current economic and political climates persist.”
…
“According to the report, Gaza by 2020 will no longer have the economy and infrastructure needed to support the nearly 2 million residents there. The problem, officials say, is the constant warring between Palestinians and Israelis, which, over time, has seriously eroded the Gaza Strip's sustainability.”

Well, if the UN can’t blame climate change, it can blame da Jooz. And it does citing an “economic blockade” and “three military operations.”
A check of a map shows Israel is not the only country bordering Gaza, but Hamas has angered Egypt to the point of blockade from the south, as well as Israel’s forces north and in the Mediterranean Sea. Countries tend not to be friendly when other governments ambush soldiers and kill tourists, as Hamas has done.
Egypt had the place as the Gaza Strip for 19 years (1948-67), yet kept it in poverty. That was OK, though, because it was Muslims doing it to Muslims.

Dogs circle like sharks
Priscilla and I are keeping our daughter’s three dogs while she is away. When Priscilla moves in her chair, especially when she gets up, our two and K’s three start moving. There is silent dog talk that goes from one room to another, so a dog two rooms away knows Priscilla is moving and maybe food is involved. Dogs are jealous creatures and cannot abide the idea that another might get something.
“They circle me like sharks,” Priscilla said.
I think they are more like hyenas.

Alice B. Miller on right side was originally Frank B. Hane, renamed in 1908.

After an agreeable return on the Alice B. Miller, Google decided I wanted to see boat and kayak rental places from Boston to Chicago, so there is nothing else on the Charley H. and the Falls City.
Live back then? No, thank you.
Shorpy has hundreds of B&W photographs, many from 8x10-inch glass negatives. That size, a photographer can get a whole lot of subjects in his picture, and sharpness beats anything in 35mm or digital.
The last time I went through all the aviation pictures, Shorpy had a color photograph of 19-year-old machinist Norma Jean Baker, I think at the Douglas factory in San Diego.
