City manager fired for promising due process to police officer

From Gun Free Zone

The Brooklyn Center City Council voted to fire Boganey, a longtime city employee, during an emergency meeting, the Star Tribune reported. At the same meeting, the council voted to give the mayor command authority over the city’s police department.

A council member explained why she voted to fire the city manager:

“Council Member Kris Lawrence-Anderson said she voted to fire Boganey out of fear of potential reprisals from protestors if she did not.”

“’He was doing a great job. I respect him dearly,’ Lawrence-Anderson said. ‘I didn’t want repercussions at a personal level.’”

The council member “did not want repercussions at a personal level.” So she thought council membership was going to be all rainbows and a big rock candy mountain? Everybody gets a unicorn! These days, running a city includes making real decisions. “If we just give them what they want” is not a basis for decision-making. It is dangerous. It is a coward’s way out.
