The civilian handling administrative and personnel matters in my daughter’s Air Force squadron was a retired Marine Corps gunnery sergeant. There are several dissimilarities in that collection of previous/present employment methods.
“He was a
nice man,” Kat said. “And, he was very intelligent.”
When I asked
about his gunnery sergeant background colliding with the Air Force way, Kat said, “When he needed to get his point across, he would slowly stand from his
desk, slowly walk to the offending office, close the door and tell the offender
what had been done wrong and how the offender would fix the problem.”
One time she
saw him go all gunny. He was on the phone and he said, “So you want me to leave
my office, get in my car, drive to your office in Lincoln and stand on your
desk with a baseball bat until you fix the problem?”
Get ‘em,
Gunny.
