Not attending a funeral

A girl died in first grade. No one ever said what Mary died from; she was at school on Friday but not on Monday. Early Monday the teacher said, “Mary died on Saturday.” That brought an even more still quietness to the classroom.

Died? Nobody I knew was supposed to die. Grandparents, sure, but not kids my age. My mother’s parents died the year before, but they were old. My father’s parents were still alive, and healthy. His father, my grandfather, lived another 25 years, and my grandmother another 44 years.

The teacher said Mary’s funeral would be on Thursday at the First Baptist Church. “We will get on a bus thirty minutes before the funeral and go to the church,” she said.

There was a little talk about Mary at recesses. Mostly boys who said, “I claimed Mary. It’s too bad she died.” Several boys said that, they claimed Mary. That’s what boys said then when deciding a certain girl was their girlfriend. “I claim Sue,” a boy would say, and any other boy who had a liking for Sue could either keep his mouth shut or challenge the other boy. That sometimes happened, a second boy saying, “You can’t claim Sue. I claimed her first.” Argument would follow, but seldom did either boy start a shoving contest. Teachers kept a close eye on boys during recess.

Thursday morning arrived, the day of the funeral. After lunch recess, with everybody back in the classroom, the teacher called two other boys and me to her desk. She said, “You boys are wearing overalls. Overalls are not proper clothing to wear to church.” She told us that when the rest of the class got on the bus, we three would go to another class and stay there the rest of the day. We mumbled, “Yes, ma’am,” and went back to our desks.

I wore overalls because that is what my mother bought for me. Overalls were sturdy and adjustable for when a boy grew. Overalls were far cheaper than slacks. Lots of boys wore overalls. The two other boys wore overalls for the same reasons.

When time came, our teacher told the three of us to go to the other classroom. We did, and the rest of the class got on the school bus and went to Mary’s funeral.

Saturday morning, I lost all vision in my right eye

It was a surprising thing. I was at the bathroom mirror, putting in a hearing aid, when right side vision disappeared. Poof! Gone. Things were not black, just an impenetrable gray haze eliminating all sight from the right side.

My wife drove me to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. The ER people quickly went to work. Sudden loss of sight in one eye can be indication of a stroke. CT scan, EEG and some other tests did not indicate a stroke. Doctors decided a small clot caused ocular occlusion. I spent Saturday night in the hospital and was released Sunday afternoon. Doctors decided the event was not a neurological problem, but an eye problem. I passed all the short term memory tests. Yea. About 50 percent of vision has returned in my right eye.

Having Medicare and Tricare for Life is a good thing.

The best indictment of Democrats yet

From Tennessee Star by way of Knuckledraggin

Gen. Xers are Republican.

“Meanwhile, the Democratic Party went insane. Democrats scare the shit out of us, and not in a good way. It’s not just that Joe Biden is a pathological liar, a self-aggrandizing fraud, and a reckless leader, but he and his fellow Democrats are full-blown Marxists, embracing radical and dehumanizing policies that few saw coming even five years ago. And these twisted perverts are coming for our kids.

“Our shining city on a hill is gone and we want it back. We demand an America that’s fun, happy, and free – the country we grew up in and that we crave for our children. For now, Joe Biden and the Democrats are in our way. But, to parse Judas Priest, if they think we’ll sit around as the world goes by – they’ve got another think coming.

“And it starts in November.”

Sounds like the difference between Trump and Biden

History will show the accomplished former PM's doctrine as 'Peace Through Strength' and the Lapid legacy as 'Take Whatever You Want – It’s Free'

“Peace Through Strength” is, of course, abomination of abomination to leftist progressive Democrats. Unless counting a totally woke country as a measure of strength, which those people do.

Famous leftist: Entrepreneurial capitalism of more help to poor people

From The Blaze by way of Ace of Spades HQ

“Bono, the lead singer of U2, said that he has realized the redistribution of resources won't help poor people the way that commerce and entrepreneurial capitalism will help them.

“The iconic musician and humanitarian made the comments during an interview with the New York Times published Monday. He talked about starting out as a left-wing activist but eventually realizing that capitalism helps the most poor people.

"’I ended up as an activist in a very different place from where I started. I thought that if we just redistributed resources, then we could solve every problem. I now know that’s not true,’ Bono explained.

"’There’s a funny moment when you realize that as an activist: The off-ramp out of extreme poverty is, ugh, commerce, it’s entrepreneurial capitalism,’ he added. "I spend a lot of time in countries all over Africa, and they’re like, eh, we wouldn’t mind a little more globalization actually. I would point out that there has been a lot of progress over the years.’"

https://www.theblaze.com/news/bono-poverty-capitalism-commerce-jobs?utm_medium=push&utm_source=pushnami

Leftists see Third World peoples as did 19th century writers, “noble savages,” needing little to bring happiness and contentment. Not for the poor are comfortable houses, air conditioning, or heat from anything but wood fires. Mobile phones are for so-called civilized countries, as are computers and all other devises that make civilization civilized. And, of course, no one should have electricity produced by anything other than the natural wind or sun.

EU ‘outsourcing democracy’ to NGOs, Hungarian justice minister says

From Hungary Today

Judit Varga "told the US audience that Hungary poses a problem for the liberal mainstream because it has shown that three ideals – the defense of sovereignty, the coordinated representation of conservative values, and a democratic state governed by the rule of law – are compatible."

EU is “building a Europe without nations.”

“This ambition can be seen in the way the EU is outsourcing democracy to international networks of NGOs, to which it had received no mandate from nation-states, Varga continued. These NGOs operate with international financial support and have enormous power to influence public opinion, especially in the European Union, she said.

We have ignored CIA’s ginned-up political wars

From American Mind and Knuckledraggin

“It is one thing to invade a country, and an entirely different level of atrocity to send a bunch of unregulated foreign extremists hopped up on hashish and Captagon to do the job.

“Time and again, the regime has empowered violent, often genocidal groups and individuals, set them like mad dogs on a targeted regime, and then denied knowledge and responsibility when, as in Afghanistan, and Libya, and Syria, the dogs turned around to bite their owner.

“Just as we never stopped using child labor, but merely transferred production to countries where we do not have to see or take responsibility for it, we continue to use extremists and criminals to engage in conflicts and commit atrocities the American people would not accept from our own soldiers.”

https://americanmind.org/salvo/pillaging-by-proxy/

Americans decided to stop Nazi Germany and militarist Japan by any means necessary. That war required 16 million Americans in uniform. When Russian Communists became the major foe of the U.S. after the war, the conflict took on different techniques, with the war in Korea and the war in Vietnam the only truly “hot” challenges of the Cold War. What we have had for the past 30 years are incidents that have not needed the full might of American power, if any use at all. Americans are leery of large-scale confrontations, preferring a few hundred or thousand special operators, or, even better, hired guns. The problem, of course, is you can’t always control the barbarians you hire.

Made for Northern Europe, flown in Malaya

Bristol Brigand, developed from the Bristol Buckingham, was a nice-looking aircraft and easy to fly.

“The Brigand was pleasant to fly, having nicely balanced flying controls and a wide range of power in the two Bristol Centaurus engines. These features made the aircraft splendid for formation flying, which was important to our method of operation. The aircraft also had sufficient range to reach targets all over Malaya from the Squadron's new base at Tengah, on Singapore Island.” – Squadron Leader A.C. Blythe

However, climate differences between factories in England and operations in Malaya brought unexpected, often fatal, problems.

“Problems with the Brigand became apparent during operations in Malaya, with undercarriages failing to lower. This was traced to rubber seals in the hydraulic jacks deteriorating in the hot, humid climate.[3] Just as this problem was being resolved another problem arose, more serious because it led to fatalities: a propensity for aircraft damage and loss during strafing runs employing the four 20 mm cannon. An accumulation of gases in the long cannon blast tubes, which ran under the cockpit, was igniting through use of high-explosive shells. This in turn severed hydraulic lines, which would burn. This was cured by drastically reducing ammunition loads and using only ball rounds.[4] The Brigand also had a tendency to shed a propeller blade, leading to complete propeller failure; this in turn would lead to the engine being wrenched off the wing and an inevitable crash. The problem was found to be caused by corrosion in the propeller locking rings. More frequent maintenance helped alleviate this problem.”

“As the Brigand became subject to more restrictions both unit commanders had serious doubts about the continued use of the aircraft.”

But, “It was decided to continue operating them, since as long as thorough maintenance was carried out it was felt that nothing else could go wrong. Another design flaw arose in the leather bellows used to deploy the air brakes during dives. In the tropical climate, the leather would rot, causing the brakes to fail. This led to Brigands losing wings in dives due to excessive airspeed or rotation as only one brake deployed. When this problem was discovered the air brakes of all Brigands were wired shut, decreasing the aircraft's dive bombing capabilities.

So, a pilot returning from a successful strafing of Communist guerrillas might not be able to get his landing gear down. Or, perhaps on a strafing run, gases accumulated beneath the cockpit exploded, which could cause the aircraft to lose flight characteristics.

Possibly losing propeller or failure of dive brakes …

A nice-looking aircraft, and had there been a Communist guerrilla outbreak nearer the English climate, the Brigand would be a better-remembered airplane.

“Uganda and Tanzania are completing preparations for the construction of a massive 1,440 km oil pipeline which will take crude oil from fields in Lake Albert to Tanzania’s Tanga Indian Ocean port. European Union officials have demanded that the project be scrapped, citing environmental, climate, and ‘human rights’ concerns.

“Brussels’ campaign of diplomatic pressure on Uganda and Tanzania aimed at stopping the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) amounts to pure ‘hypocrisy,’ and constitutes an attempt by wealthy countries to keep developing nations down, Elison Karuhanga, a member of Uganda’s Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, has said."

Law enforcers ‘periodically’ raid Astrakhan marketplace

From Caucasian Knot

“Now, a large-scale raid was conducted in Astrakhan at an agricultural fair. Policemen and border guards, supported by special fighters, checked foreigners for law violations. As a result of the raid, 75 violators of the migration legislation were identified, according to the website of the MIA's branch for the Astrakhan Region.”

Comments: "It looks like they've directly detained rapists and murderers. It would be better if they search embezzlers with the help of special fighters," the user Ekaterina Ivanova wrote in the "VKontakte" social network.

"They deprive people of the chance to earn money," the user Azamat Temnikov has added.

"It's high time for them to go home," another commentator has objected.

Rainbow

Just happened to think: God gave man the rainbow as a reminder of the covenant between Him and mankind, that He killed all of mankind, save Noah and his family, and as a promise that He would not use water to again destroy almost all of humanity.

Queers, lesbians, trans-whatevers, gender-bending persons and other political liberals think they can steal God's rainbow by displaying rainbow flags as a symbol of the togetherness of humanity. Like Nimrod, who was a hunter of men’s souls, and who proclaimed man could build a tower all the way to God's house. So, yeah, you folks keep bringing more and more people under your multicolored bow and arc and see what happens.

One day, a voice will whisper, “I told you what would happen.” Just before the first flame.

Afghanistan in America

Sparta, Wisc., has a population of a bit more than 10,000. Not counted are the 13,000 Afghans brought in to Fort McCoy after the Biden administration found itself losing the hell out of a war faster than anyone thought possible.

From Daniel Greenfield

“None of the Afghans at Fort McCoy have a Special Immigrant Visa. Biden left the SIV visa holders behind in Afghanistan. The Afghans who have overrun the Wisconsin base are the ones whom the Taliban, for their own reasons, decided to allow through their checkpoints.

“And they’re living up to the high cultural standards of the Taliban.

“The problems began with the toilets. Then there were issues with the rice, the sexual abuse of young boys, and Afghans simply leaving on their own despite promises of taxpayer cash.”

7 former Bosnian Serb soldiers found guilty in massacre trial

Haris Rovcanin, Sarajevo

A po-leece friend in Texas ...

In a just-concluded episode of Castle, a character was shot in the head but did not die, nor was he seriously wounded. Capt. Beckett wondered how such an event could occur. She said, “I realize it was only a .22-caliber…”

About 30 years ago a police detective friend said, “The first shooting case I got, dispatch said there was a gunshot victim at the emergency room, self-inflicted wound to the head. I figured, OK, go get statements from everybody, do up the paperwork, case closed.”

Not so, not so, said the muses of po-leece work.

Robert demonstrated the shooting, with an index finger as the pistol barrel. “He shot himself with a .22, put the muzzle against the middle of his forehead and pulled the trigger.”

The lead slug easily penetrated the thin skin covering the man’s skull, but the muzzle must not have been horizontal, because the slug went under the skin, followed the man’s skull up, across the top of his head and exited at the very back.

The man was very much alive when Robert reached the ER. He had a bad headache, but he was alive.

“You never know what a .22 will do,” Robert said.

He didn’t mention what, if anything, the man was charged with.

(Use of “po-leece”: That is the way a police lieutenant friend pronounced the word when telling a “po-leece story,” as opposed to a run-of-the-mill cop tale. The lieutenant was also department public affairs officer. One morning at the station, Rex filled me in on details of a man who hit a stop and rob in the Texas town a few days before, and was shot dead in Kentucky the night before. The man robbed other stores in Arkansas and Tennessee before attempting a similar holdup in Kentucky. Police arrived before the man made his escape, Rex said. “He then decided on suicide by po-leece and began firing at the responding officers.”

“Suicide by po-leece.” First time I heard that phrase. TV news people sometimes describe “suicide by cop.” That does not have the same definition or finality as does “suicide by po-leece,” but is a Big City way of reporting.)

Proving my contention that anything of importance was first done by a man

From Babylon Bee

Feminists celebrate as woman prime minister quits, breaking 195-year-old record.

LONDON — Feminists worldwide touted another feather in their caps today as Liz Truss's resignation meant the all-time record for the shortest term by a UK Prime Minister is now held by a woman.

"This is just the latest domino to fall in our ongoing fight against the global patriarchy," said Jill Jakenhaal (she/her), chairperson of the London chapter of Women Against Everything. "We can now be proud that the fastest failure by a Prime Minister was accomplished not by a man — by a woman! Take that, male oppressors!"

“Situation fluid,” Lacey said. “Opinions vary.”

“What an odd war. Nobody knows anything. Oh, well. What has H.Q. to say about Russian politics, Count?”

“They copied it from the Encyclopaedia Britannica,” Borodin said, “which has long since been overtaken by events. For instance, the Britannica and H.Q. say the peasants are ignorant of Western civilization, hence the power of the nobility. But the peasants have taken their estates and the nobility have no power. Whoever wrote this doesn’t understand the Revolution.”

“Police swarmed Orlando’s Magic Mall on Friday after receiving reports of a brazen daytime ‘smash and grab’ at a jewelry store. The store’s owner, however, didn’t wait for police to engage the criminals, firing at the suspects, one of whom was reportedly armed, forcing them to flee the scene.

Dagestan leads Southern Russia in ‘law enforcer’ deaths in Ukraine

From Caucasus Knot

Since the beginning of the special military operation, the authorities have confirmed the information about at least 800 residents of Southern Russia perished in Ukraine, including 512 residents of the North-Caucasian Federal District and 288 residents of the South Federal District. Dagestan became the leader among the regions of Southern Russia in terms of the number of republic’s residents perished in Ukraine.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 21, Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu made public the information that 5937 fighters had perished since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the special military operation, the authorities of the regions and municipalities of the North-Caucasian Federal District and the South Federal District have reported about at least 800 compatriots perished in Ukraine.

The above data includes the officially confirmed information about at least 512 perished residents of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), including 230 natives of Dagestan, whose deaths were reported by the local authorities. Officials of various levels also reported about the deaths of 99 natives of North Ossetia, 79 fighters from the Stavropol Territory, 44 natives of Kabardino-Balkaria, 29 residents of Chechnya, and 26 natives of Ingushetia, as well as five residents of Karachay-Cherkessia.

The authorities of the regions and municipalities of the South Federal District (SFD) have reported about at least 266 compatriots perished since the beginning of the special military operation. So, in the Volgograd Region, representatives of the authorities confirmed the information about 128 perished natives of the region, in the Rostov Region – about 49, in the Krasnodar Territory – about 46, and in the Astrakhan Region – 45 perished compatriots. Besides, the information about ten natives of Adygea and ten fighters from Kalmykia perished in the special military operation was officially confirmed.

Already on May 20, the number of law enforcers from Northern Caucasus who perished in Ukraine exceeded the number of deaths in the past eight years of the armed conflict.

Earlier, analysts have pointed to the lack of information on the death toll in Ukraine.

EU ‘promotes’ democracy in Ukraine, threatens to use ‘tools’ against newly elected Italian PM

Rachel Marsden

RT News

“All eyes have been on the newest addition to the class: Italian prime minister-elect Georgia Meloni. Her right-wing populist coalition had just been elected and already the knives were out. Actually, they were out even before the election, as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned, in response to a query about the far right being on the cusp of power in Italy, that the bloc had ‘tools’ to deal with member states whose governments drifted away from Brussels’ agenda. So despite von der Leyen and other EU leaders’ ridiculous claims of fighting for democracy in notoriously corrupt Ukraine, apparently by flooding it with endless Western weapons, von der Leyen can’t even bother to pay lip service to the most basic respect of the democratic will of the citizens of Italy.”

https://www.rt.com/news/564677-georgia-meloni-eu-italy/

Brussels bureaucrats and EU neo-colonialists want free hand in dealing with national rebels, while dictating in Russia’s back yard. The EU has not been successful in hammering down Hungary and Poland’s insistence that national laws have a higher force over European orders.

“This is from the 1960s.  That's gone now.  Exhibit A for the Prosecution is my last post's reference to the chief of CERN - the world's most prestigious physics lab - and his command to his staff not to comment on the Svensmark experiment (because it calls into question the Scientific Orthodoxy of Global Warming).  Exhibit B is the fact that for multiple reasons the climate databases are "seriously flawed and can no longer be trusted." Exhibit C is how NASA administrators are prohibiting NASA scientists from publishing papers that run against current Global Warming orthodoxy.  There are many more examples of this in yesterday's post, and many, many more (over 500, in fact) here.

“So something happened between July 1969 and today.  Back then we were able to make atomic bombs, invent integrated circuits, and land a man on the moon.  Now it's arguments over string theory and why we can't detect more ‘Dark Matter’".

https://borepatch.blogspot.com/2022/10/the-scientific-dark-age.html

Recent reads say we do not have the workers trained in production or accustomed to labor to take back all the jobs shipped overseas since the late 20th century, nor do we have (literal) rocket scientists to send a man to the moon and safely bring him back.

In July 2008, then-NASA chief Charlie Bolden said then-President Barrack Obama charged him “to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math and engineering."

The White House quickly said Bolden was mistaken, but the response seemed more political than real.

Observation

People who say Islamist terrorists are not "real Muslims" also believe people who ran failed Communist and socialist countries were not "real Communists" or "real socialists."

Kia, Hyundai too easy to steal

Car makers to blame for increase in stolen cars, St. Louis says.

From Gateway Pundit by way of Zelman Partisans

“With this letter, the city demands that Kia and Hyundai mitigate the defective conditions providing thieves – including teenagers as young as 13 – the instrumentalities by which they are destroying property, endangering city drivers and themselves, and, in some cases, committing violent felonies,” according to the letter written Aug. 19 by City Counselor Sheena Hamilton.

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/10/st-louis-crime-city-officials-sue-car-manufacturers-surge-car-thefts/

What are “defective conditions” that make Kia and Hyundai so easy to steal?

“The issue, of course, isn’t really a ‘defect.’ It’s a lack of an optional system that I’ve never had installed in a single vehicle I’ve owned in my life.”

The city alleges: “Hyundai and Kia chose to manufacture and sell the affected vehicles without an immobilizer, a device which prevents most vehicles from being started unless a code is transmitted from the vehicle’s smart key.

Just when you figure governments can’t possibly get any dumber.

Biden wouldn’t do that!

 From Daily Mail UK

“Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said Thursday morning that US officials 'suggested' postponing the decision to reduce output by two million barrels a day by a month until after November 8, when millions of Americans will cast their ballots.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11311835/Saudi-Arabia-confirms-White-House-begged-delay-OPEC-deal.html

Biden would not use oil as a political weapon in elections. Not Uncle Joe. And he certainly would not ask favors from people he previously called murderers. Unless he is dumber than we thought.

This is not right

“Human brain organoids implanted into rats could offer new way to model disease.”

“Human brain organoids influence rat behavior.”

At nature.com, by way of 1440 daily digest.

“Clumps of human neurons implanted into brains of newborn rats have successfully integrated into the animals’ brain circuitry…”

Written presumably with a straight face and no irony: “The novel idea raised ethical questions, with the team consulting ethicists prior to experimentation on questions of animal welfare…”

Oh, my goodness. The ethical question of those poor rats being influenced by human organoids. No question of ethics in the whole procedure. Protect rats. The “scientists” did not mention the sources of the human brains used in the study.

Just because a thing can be done does not mean it should be done.

What can happen when you go against Fearless Leader

From Gun Free Zone

“One small bit of history I was unaware of. During the Great Purge, untold tens of thousands of Soviet citizens were disposed of by means of stuffing them in old ships and barges, taking them to some deep-water locations and scuttling the vessels, drowning all the occupants.

“Hitler was a fucking amateur.”

For governing through ruthless terror, no modern-day bureaucrats can beat the Bolsheviks. Before the state eliminates a single opponent, there are book keepers, accountants, secretaries, truck drivers, dispatchers, supply clerks, armorers …

More than just wearing the crown

“In 1860, the British National Rifle Association held its first annual meeting at Wimbledon. Queen Victoria fired the first shot from a Whitworth rifle on a machine rest at 400 yards (370 m), and struck the bull's-eye 1 to 1+14 inches (25–32 mm) from its center.” – Wikipedia article on the Whitworth rifle.

‘I seen my opportunity and I took it’

From American Thinker

“Schools Chancellor David Banks quietly promoted Mayor Adams’ girlfriend to a top job at the Department of Education, just months after Adams hired Banks’ girlfriend as a deputy mayor, The Post has learned.

“Banks named Tracey Collins — Adams’ longtime partner and NYC’s unofficial First Lady — the DOE’s ‘senior advisor to the deputy chancellor of school leadership,’ Desmond Blackburn. She started the new job in July, and got a giant, 23% raise to $221,597 a year, records show.

“Hizzoner named Banks’ girlfriend, Sheena Wright, and four other women deputy mayors last Dec. 21. Deputy mayors made $251,982 in FY 21.”

Or, “Hey, we won. That puts us in charge of the checkbooks.”

It’s not a private diary; it’s history

Workers in League City, Texas, found “a small purse from the 1950s” inside the walls of a former school building.

Okay. ID the owner and give it back.

Well, historical society and school officials are taking a different tack.

“The historical society said it will reveal more details about the purse discovery at its Oct. 27 meeting.

Great. Beverly Williams’ diary entries will become historical record now?

Of the diary, a historical society official said: “Picture it as today's Facebook: you're putting everything down. She wrote about her love life, who she broke up with.”

“today’s Facebook”? No. No, no. The historical society lady knows not of which she speaks. Stuff on Facebook, you want people to read. A diary entry from a school girl in the 1950s? She was interested in privacy.

'Will your US Senator return to live in your state when his Senate career ends?'

From Ace of Spades HQ

"If the answer is “No” then he is not representing your state. He is likely representing Washington DC, which despite having zero elected Senators, actually has about 50 or 60 Senators whose priority is representing the DC Beltway establishment instead of the US states that elected them.

"Unsurprisingly, with the resignation of Ben Sasse (R-NE) from the US Senate, he is not 'returning home' to Nebraska. He is moving to Florida where he will take on the role of President at the University of Florida. He follows a long list of 'conservative' Senators such as Trent Lott, Dick Lugar, and Mary Landrieu who had no interest in returning to the flyover states that they allegedly represented once their Senate careers had ended.

"A review of Sasse’s resume shows that he left Nebraska after high school, attended Harvard, Yale, St. John’s and Oxford. After he collected all his Masters degrees and PHDs, he taught at the University of Texas, then had a long tenure in government jobs in DC. He finally made a brief return to Nebraska to assume the presidency of a small college, which then set the stage for his Senate campaign…so he could return to DC. In Washington, Senator Sasse did an outstanding job representing the interests of the DC with his constant sermonizing against conservatives and his battles against MAGA Republicans.

"Red state conservatives have got to stop electing representatives and Senators who don’t even want to live in the states they pretend to represent in Congress."
