Cleaning 5.6 metric tons of copper coins

Archaeologists in China have begun “the daunting task of cleaning, derusting, classifying weighing, cataloging and studying 5.6 metric tons of coins.”

The coins were found Oct.13, 2007, during construction work on a house in Chalian Village in Jiangxi Province and date from the Song Dynasty, 960-1279.

The process is expected to take at least two or three years.
