Haynes, Arkansas, down to about 130 people

Here is a link to a satellite image of Haynes and the surrounding area. The surrounding area is mostly fields.

Haynes is in Lee County. The St. Francis River is the county’s east border. In 2000, Haynes had a population of 214. Per capita income was $8,057. Poverty level numbers were 30% of families and 42% of the overall population, including 54% of those under 18 and 50% of those 60 and over. Figures such as those indicate President Lyndon B. Johnson’s much-heralded War on Poverty isn’t working, even after 54 years.

Haynes’ 2010 population was 150. The 2016 population was estimated at 131.

Demographic breakdown of Hayne’s population show 85.05% black and 14.95% white.

That account makes it seem that Haynes is simply wandering away.

Lots of farmland there, though.
