My wife mentioned to a friend our short conversation with the woman who would not apply for work because she has no papers. The friend said a woman where she works told her of a U.S. Treasury program that pays mortgage or rent and utility bills, for people whose income is not greater than $42,000. Rent and utilities make a substantial chunk of anybody's payments.
Everybody who pays taxes, then, is also paying housing for people who have jobs.
