I believe to a great degree that the long standing
monarchical history of Europe has created that herd mentality in its citizens.
The end of the monarchies was the result of collective action by the citizens.
Their communities are all close set and there is a high degree of conformance
by the citizens in order for these small communities to avoid conflict among
its citizenry.
Conversely, those
who settled in the American colonies and ultimately fought and founded our
nation were individuals who sought personal achievement. They created a society
that allowed for personal growth on an unprecedented scale. The evolution of
the American society is unique among the developed nations as we did not emerge
from a monarchical system in and on our lands. We began and grew as a free
nation of both ambition and the availability of land. It is this factor, in my
mind, that has created the unique American Ethos.
As to the fire at
Notre Dame, I have read that there were no workers or work related activity
going on the day of the fire. This certainly increases the level of suspicion I
have regarding how the fire started. If it is proven to be an arson attack, the
politically correct will insist it was NOT ARSON by an Islamic adherent and
will continue to believe this by choice despite any evidence to the contrary.
This will be very interesting to follow for the next few days.
We of the western world
must acknowledge the impact that Christian values and traditions had on our
development as free nations. The loss of such a treasure of historical
significance is a tragedy. Beyond the religious aspects the architectural
significance of the building itself is beyond measure. Considering that the
building was built without modern conveniences and equipment makes the scale of
the structure even more impressive.
As a society, I
believe we need to embrace our heritage and defend it as the character of our nation
is built upon this history. I pray that the citizens in Europe wake up and see
the permanent damage that immigration of non-assimilating peoples is doing to
their societies. – Glenda T. Good comment at http://knuckledraggin.com/2019/04/notre-dame-some-thoughts/#comments
