Tulsa
County District Judge Dawn Moody sentenced (Taheerah) Ahmad to three concurrent life
sentences on two counts of child neglect and one count of assault by means
likely to produce death, with a consecutive 10-year sentence on a charge of first-degree
arson.

Before
Moody issued the sentence, prosecutors played the nearly hour-long tape of
Ahmad’s interview with investigators after her arrest on May 15, 2018. In the
interview, Ahmad referenced her “so-called daughters” when initially discussing
the 11-year-old she had stabbed with a dagger and garden pickaxe more than 100
times and the then-9-year-old who had escaped to run for help during the attack.
