62? Are you serious?

The house seemed cold, and cold is the last thing a sick me wants. Check the thermostat. Inside temperature, 70. That’s cool for a winter night when outside is 52. OK, check setting … 62? Are you serious? And then I see that the system is “Off.” That’s right. On the second-coldest (so far) night of the year, the heat is Off? Fixable. Turn system on. Set on Heat. Up requested temperature to 72. Problem solved, except sometime during the night the system will go off again. I don’t know why. The air conditioner never does that.

  1. Is it one of those so called "Smart" thermostats? The can be controlled remotely without your knowledge. The power company here pushes them really hard. What many don't see in the fine print for the "free" thermostat is that they are allowed to control it in order to reduce or balance electrical load.

Most of these have been shown to be readily hacked also.

  2. FF. It is not a "free" Smart as far as I know. My wife likes a cool, cool house. I used to, but that cerebral aneurysm did a number on my internal thermostat. In North Little Rock, I checked the thermostat one night before going to bed. 52 internal reading. I cranked the heat all the way t0 60 and then opened the bedroom door, My wife had tge ceiing fan on High, Cranked that that down a notch.
