It was four
years ago, but not being surrounded by liberals as when working at the newspaper, I'm kind of not in the loop.
‘Star-Telegram Apologizes For Bad Cartoon Amid Pressure From Alumni’
First, the headline would not have got by me when I was a copy editor at the Star-Telegram. Rule: Prepositions are not capitalized in headlines or titles. Second, the headline reads as though the cartoon was made amid pressure from alumni. Headlines should not cause confusion in a reader’s mind. A more accurate headline: ‘Amid pressure from alumni, Star-Telegram apologizes for bad cartoon.’ I was not asked an opinion four years ago, but had I been, I would not have signed the letter.
Overall, I think the cartoon is funny and educational, as editorial cartoons should be. The alumni do themselves no favor by quoting the Southern Poverty Law Center, but, then, liberals often point to SPLC as “proof” of some hatred or another.
I worked
with the Star-Telegram from August 1976 to September 1981. I knew many of the people
who signed the letter. Liberals every one.
Such a self-evident group of pecksniffs. Send 'em back to jr high.
