Today’s mail included 42 letters from organizations that want money

Some groups sent two letters, and there is a good reason (from their standpoint) for duplication.

Earlier this year my mother-in-law sent two different $200 checks to the same organization on the same day. She didn’t remember sending the first check, so when she came across the second letter, she sent a second check. Her check register shows several checks between the two, which means when she balanced her account, she did not notice the duplication. Even with her own writing as proof, she did not realize what she had done.

These organizations know their audience. They know elderly people are sometimes confused. They know the elderly often repeat an action, having forgotten the action already done. These thieving bastards literally bank on confusion and fear.

Delivered to my address today:

• No return address – “Priority delivery.” Same bulk postage number – 16 – and both from Fredericksburg, Va. Another with same bulk number – “Federated Overnite.”

• Amy Ridenour, National Retirement Security Task Force – “Confidential.” Second envelope: “Nationwide Survey Enclosed. Response Requested.” Third envelope: “Urgent Correspondence.”

• Political Headquarters 2013 – “2013 report on the direction of our nation.”

• Impeach Obama Campaign – “National Resolution on Impeachment.” Second envelope: “Red Alert – Postal Priority – Air Delivery – Triple Initiative.” Third Envelope: “National Resolution On Impeachment.”

• White House Watch – “Annual Commitment Now Due!” Second envelope: “Annual Commitment Now Due!” Third envelope: “Personal Congressional Correspondence Enclosed.”

• United States Health Congress – No message, but overprint of “Air Mail,” which it is not.

• Retire Safe: “ENCLOSED: The Social Security Protection Amendment To The United States Constitution.”

• American Federation of Senior Citizens: “Copy Of Certified Enclosed – Please Open At Once.” (Certified what?)

• The Task Force to Impeach Obama – “Sealed Congressional Correspondence Confidential.”

• No return address – “Copy of Check Enclosed. Open Immediately.

• Health Care Reform Task Force. No message.

• No return address: ”Copy Of Final Check Enclosed 10-Day Deadline.” This and the two above were mailed from the 22406 Zip Code and have the same postage meter ink.

• No return address, no message on the envelope, but the Zip Code is unusual for these – 08057, which is Moorestown, N.J. A return envelope has “Senior Centers,” and a D.C. post office box.

• Abolish The Death Tax – “A 2103 Campaign To Abolish The Estate Tax.
