A logical question, given the times

“What caliber bullet would it take to wreck the rear differential gears of a heavy truck?"

Several answers follow -- .45 ACP, 7.62, 6.5mm, .30-06, everything but a .22LR.

The writer then explains:

“I am asking because we are seeing police showing up in SWAT armored vehicles to arrest people for violating ‘stay at home’ orders. I know that the armored vehicles’ passenger compartments are impervious to most small arms that a private citizen would be able to bring to bear. I also know that these vehicles are vulnerable to things like Molatovs, napalm, those sorts of things. The problem is getting them in immobile in a kill zone where the fire weapons could be used.

"So I began wondering what other vulnerabilities the vehicles would have that could be used to make them immobile: things like having their differential wrecked from a distance with aimed rifle fire, for example.

“The reason I ask is that the people in this country are becoming restless. They cannot be held hostage indefinitely, and will eventually push back.”

  1. 308 as well as 62 grain .223 will penetrate the pumpkin/differential.. Also if you pop the brake canister on the rear end, the brakes will activate...

  2. Is the canister in a shootable location? I know about the power brake pump but not about a canister. Lack of experience.
