CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — An Iowa man is accused of
chasing his ex-girlfriend through a cornfield with a gun during a car chase,
authorities said.
Zachary Ryan Griffin, 31, of Cedar Rapids, was
arrested Thursday and charged with domestic abuse with a weapon, according to
Scott County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
Griffin
was released from custody after posting $2,000 bail, online records show.
According to court documents, Griffin
and his former girlfriend used to live together. On Thursday, he allegedly
trespassed onto her property in Long Grove and chased her through a cornfield
while driving a car, the Quad-City Times reported. The woman was also
driving a car, the newspaper reported.
The
woman and another witness told police that they saw Griffin exit his car during
the chase and show them a gun, the Dispatch-Argus reported.
Deputies from the Scott County
Sheriff’s Office responded and found a gun in Griffin’s car, the newspaper
reported.
Griffin will have a preliminary
hearing on May 14. If convicted of the charge, Griffin could face up to two
years in jail, the Quad-City Times reported.
“Is this heaven?”
“Hell, no. This is an Iowa
cornfield!”
