American reporters vs. the Catholic Church

A couple of days ago a reporter from a major network said appointment of an American pope could lead to (all caps on the screen) REFORM.

American reporters who talk about REFORM in the Catholic Church always mean the church must have women priests, married priests, homosexual priests; even, one must suppose, married male homosexual priests, married lesbian priests, transgender priests, bisexual priests, confused gender priests, and whatever kind of sexual preference a candidate for priesthood might have.

In a thesaurus check of “reform,” the first synonym is “improvement.” To American reporters’ minds, then, appointment and approval of the above sex-driven priests would be “improving the church.”

By the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, “reform” carries the same meaning.

1. a: to put or change into an improved form or condition; b: to amend or improve by change of form or removal of faults or abuses

2. a: to put an end to (an evil) by enforcing or introducing a better method or course of action; b: to induce or cause to abandon evil ways (reform a drunkard).

So, the Catholic Church has been “evil” in its refusal to use sexuality when appointing priests. In American reporters’ minds, which sexual partners a person uses is of primary importance in appointment to a position of moral authority. And, in American reporters’ minds, a male homosexual priest or lesbian priest or transgender priest carries greater moral authority than does a man who has sworn chastity and who lives by biblical morals.

My mind hurts.
