Sunday night Priscilla and I went to the local drive-in and watched Jurassic World.
For those not old enough, a drive-in is an outdoor movie place where you park your car and watch a movie. There are speakers you hang on your window. The speakers have volume control.
The first drive-in movie theaters opened in the early 1930s in New Jersey and Texas. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, there were 4,000 drive-ins in the United States. In 2013, there were 189.
After returning to the car from the concession stand, I said to Priscilla, “This is likely to be the first drive-in movie we’ve ever watched all the way through.” During our dating days, whatever was showing on the screen we found nowhere nearly as interesting as each other.
“Star Wars,” she said.
“Before we had kids,” said.
“One on One,” she said. “Logan’s Run.”
Nope. The first was made in 1977 and the second two months before Michael was born. I knew she liked One on One and Logan’s Run. Maybe she doesn’t remember any drive-in movie we did not watch all the way through. To tell the truth, neither do I.
