Last night my wife brought home two kittens. The kittens were male, brothers, small and cute. Priscilla figured they would keep each other company.
One kitten was a shadowy white, the other is gray.
We introduced the kittens to our two standard poodles – Charley and Victor. Each dog had a choke collar and a leash. We didn’t want to take chances.
Charley bit the white kitten. It died overnight.
Priscilla had Charley’s leash when we introduced dogs and cats. Charley weighs around 65 pounds. I had Victor. He weighs around 95 pounds. When Charley grabbed the kitten, Victor tried to get involved. That’s the way dogs are. One dog, you’re generally safe. Two dogs, one will do what the other does. I had difficulty dragging Victor away from Charley and the kitten, while yelling “No! No!”
Priscilla was yelling at Charley. “No!” and “Anh!” just as we learned when we and the dogs were in obedience training.
We both did a little hitting with leash ends, too, to get our point across. I put the dogs outside.
The kitten seemed more shaken than damaged. Priscilla held it and comforted it for a time and then set it on the floor. The kitten walked, but it did not cavort as it had earlier.
This morning the kitten was stretched out near its little box house in the laundry room. It looked like a kitten asleep. It was cold when I touched it. I think it went to sleep and then died.
The gray kitten acts as though there never was another kitten.
I am angry at the dogs.
