The government is eliminating pork from federal prison meals. Yep. Bacon, pork chops, pork roast, ham – No more.
There is a good reason, of course. The federal government always has a good reason for anything it does.
Here is the reason: Prisoners don’t like the taste of pork.
And, according to a federal spokesperson: “’People are more health conscious these days. … Some people choose to be vegetarian or vegan. That’s their preference.’ As of last week, the prison menu had added an ‘economically viable’ turkey bacon substitute.”

(Here is a guess: The number of vegetarian and vegan prisoners in federal prison is somewhat less than the number of meat eaters. And that part about pork ranking last on a taste survey … What were the other choices?)
