In Jasper County, South Central Iowa.

Population: 772 in 2000; 734 in 2010.

Cost of living index: 83.1 (based on US average of 100).

Average house cost in 2009 was around $72,000. That hit $150,000 in 2011 and in 2013 dropped to slightly less than $120,000.

Estimated 2013 population was 730 white, one “Asian,” and three “Hispanic or Latino.”

A plurality of houses (160) was built in 1939 or earlier. The next largest number is 93, built between 2000-2009.

One house for sale falls in the 1939 or earlier span, and was listed at $439,000.

City Council met a couple of weeks ago. The agenda included discussion on trick or treat night and ordinances concerning bothersome animals and domestic chickens.

Ebert Honey is located just south of town, on County Road T-38. I don’t know anything about the company, but honey production always sounds interesting. Ebert has about 1,000 hives and processes around 100,000 pounds of honey a year. Here is the Ebert website:

A yelp site says it has reviews on the 10 best restaurants in Lynnville, but none of the places is in Lynnville.
