Why does no one edit stories?

I worked four years for the Paris (Texas) News until pissed off local politicals and at least one real estate company owner (who also was a pissed off political) got me fired. Well, that and a new managing editor who wanted his own reporters and not the ones hired by his predecessor, which led to firing of two reporters (including me) and threatening another with firing if she did not find another job.

Anyway, I check the online edition now and then, especially obituaries to see if people I wrote about happened upon the fate that awaits us all. I read news story leads and column leads, but I don't have access to the entire publication because I don't want to pay money.

This letter to the editor, sent a few minutes ago, refers to a problem typical of newspaper and TV news.

"A couple of days ago I read where y’all hired a new city editor. Then today I read this:

“'I recently checked into an upscale hotel in Florida and found the upscale television remote control was encased in an upscale toilet paper role (sic) (read here: cardboard tube), with a note on …'

"Now a role can be a whole lot of things, but holding a TV remote it cannot, any more than you can buy a cinnamon role at a bakery.

"Has your new city editor made himself comfortable in his role? (The correct usage, I believe.)"

You are welcome.
