Science fiction movie plots

Da-ta-da-ta that threatens to destroy humanity.

Or, Da-ta-da-ta that threatens to destroy Earth.

Too many, like early-to-late 1960s movies with giant ants or scorpions caused by atom bomb tests or a 50-foot woman or peaceful forward-thinking worlds Out There will not let Earth join until we get rid of atomic and hydrogen weapons. 

Everything cannot be The Expanse or the first three Star Wars movies, but my goodness a few movies as well plotted and written as The Last Star Fighter would make me smile.

Too much to expect from the kind of people who cancelled Firefly?
