Hall of Fame pitcher Dizzy Dean was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a federal gambling investigation in 1970. Dean placed bets for a friend in Mississippi. Wouldn't raise any eyebrows now.
Former Commissioner Bowie Kuhn banned Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle from baseball, but the next commissioner reinstated the Hall of Fame center fielders. Their crime? Both agreed to employment at Atlantic City casinos for "meet and greet."
The country is going to Hell in a handbasket, and you don't need an oddsmaker for that.
Buck Weaver was banned for life because he didn't report his teammates for taking bribes. Weaver refused to be bribed.
