From Balkan Insight
Subhead on story out of
Belgrade on police reaction to protests:
‘BIRN has mapped numerous incidents
of police brutality during protests on Tuesday and Wednesday in Serbia.
Journalists and women were not spared.’
The story does say, “The
authorities deployed teargas and mounted police to disperse the protesters,
some of whom lobbed rocks and petrol bombs at the Gendarmerie units securing
the parliament.”
Okay: Protesters throwing rocks
and gasoline bombs at police.
Not okay: Police deploying
tear gas and officers on horses.
Persons engaged in violent
disturbances almost always have women involved. Journalists are often in the
middle of mobs. So why should journalists and women cry when police treat them
like other rioters?
Just like American rioters, Balkan rock and gasoline bomb throwers believe police should do nothing except run away.
