apologizes for considering transgender role after backlash’
See, actors aren’t supposed
to play characters they are not. Berry is not transgender, therefore, she may not
play a transgender in a movie.
Last week, several actors
promised not to do animated movie voices for characters they are not.
Ethnically not. Someone was taken under fire for playing a Vietnamese
character, when the actor was not Vietnamese. An animated character (cartoon,
really) then, must be played by an actor who is the same gender and ethnicity.
Those rules do not count for
every role or ethnicity, though. Surprise, surprise, surprise, as Gomer Pyle
would say. And, speaking of Gomer, Jim Nabors should never have played the
affable, straight, Gomer.
The film and TV industries
find nothing wrong with Nabors and other queer actors playing straight
characters, but get all out of shape when the opposite happens.
For a long time now we have
been badgered and battered with so-called “equality,” but the reality is, those
doing the yelling intend to define what the word means,
