In the bathroom this morning
while standing on one leg to put on my underwear, that knee gave way, sending
me falling against the cabinet and then onto the floor. My right arm was cut in
a couple of places, one cut on my right little finger, and a wrenched toenail,
which also led to bleeding.
The first thing I did was
finish pulling on my underwear. In addition to my wife, our youngest son and his
wife are here, and I wanted to limit the amount of exposure. I then got my
t-shirt from the counter and got it on. Dragging myself from the bathroom to
the bedroom took only a couple or three minutes. I then braced myself against
the bed frame and pushed to my feet.
My wife responded to my
question, “Might I have some assistance?” She said, “What do you need?” I replied,
“I need my walker from the bathroom. I sort of fell.”
When my wife reached the bedroom
door, she said, “You’re bleeding.” She did a quick inspection and then brought out
the walker. I sat. She then got a wash cloth, wet it, and began washing my
cuts. With that done, she got bandages and band aids and applied first aid.
I got dressed while my wife
put away the bandages and then got cleaning materials. I had bled not only on the
bathroom tile floor, but more on the bedroom carpet. My wife reminded me that
with the walker in the bathroom, I could have sat while putting on underwear,
and she highly recommended that I do so in the future. I agreed.
That all happened more than
four hours ago. I am still leery of placing weight on my left knee. Even a
little step causes a pain around 7 out of 10.
