Box, Oklahoma, by any other name ...

Box is an unincorporated community in Sequoyah County. Sequoyah County is in eastern central Oklahoma and butts up against Arkansas.

The 2010 census showed 224 people living in Box.

Box was called Roy until the U.S. Post Office changed the name in 1911. The post office in Box closed in 1928.

A web site catering to people who want to move says 100% of the people in Box are older than 18. I don’t believe it. That site also says Box’s population is 125. Hmm. Ninety-nine fewer people than the census showed. Sure, that many people could have moved in the last 10 years, but not likely.

The same site says 58.4% of the people in Box are white, and 4.8% are Indian. That equals 63.2%. Maybe the remaining 36.8% have no ethnicity. Does the federal government allow non-ethnicity?

Atta boy, Box. Or Roy.
