We are the problem, or at the least the children of the problem. The Great Depression ended around the time Hitler and Stalin divided Poland, causing war plants to feed the squirrels and get the wheels moving. Those who grew up in Depressed times beat the German Devil, came home, and many, many of them went to college (GI Bill) and became lawyers and college teachers and city administrators and (eventually) politicians. Success, then, depended on a Diploma, which every Tom, Deborah and Harriet deserved, a Basic Human Right. Well, people our parents’ age and our age ***ed things up royally, and as soon as the 51st percent of us ride that 401k carpet into a gated community, the better our progeny can take over and (a) fix things; or, (b) continue the march their grandparents started. Probably b, since it is very difficult to un***k something. The “multi-generational war on biological reality, otherwise known as the War on Poverty” has “largely been a Baby Boomer project to rebuild America into an egalitarian utopia.”
“All of those government employees would be living in squalor if not for the trillions in social welfare transfers. The same can be said of the vast war machine we have financed for seventy years. I know families that are now third generation defense contractor.”
