The 2000 census counted 164 people in West Point. By 2010, the town had grown to 185. Demographics of 2000: 91.46% white, 3.66% black.
The median income for a household in West Point was $23,125 in 2000, and the median income for a family was $24,375. Males had a median income of $20,208 versus $23,333 for females. The per capita income for the town was $11,657. About 26.1% of families and 26.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 42.1% of those under the age of eighteen and 33.3% of those sixty five or over.

Before arrival of the railroad, West Point was a commercial center in White County. The town was the farthest point accessible by steamboats on the Little Red River.
