Dumping slag at Bethlehem Steel

I worked as a brakeman for Penn-Central Railroad for a time, but I never saw anything like this.

Neat around 2:40 when the crane operator knocks the hook against the bottom of the slag bucket.

You would want to be far away when the slag comes out.

On a train leaving the Cincinnati yard one day I saw a series of filled, disconnected coal cars going up an angled rail line. When a car reached a specific position, a device picked up the car from the rail, lifted it, and then turned it and dumped the coal. The device then turned the car back to normal position and set it on the track.

Answer.com says an average coal car weighs 110 tons, empty. The car carries almost its own weight in coal.
