The old man and Teddy Ballgame

Conrado Eugenio (Ramos) Marrero’s first game, April 25, 1951, Washington Senators, he was 38 years old. In five years with the Senators, Marrero pitched 735 innings, 669 in his first four years. That’s ages 38-43. He was an All Star his second year.

Marrero’s record was 39-40, 3.67 ERA. Of 94 games started, he completed 51. He pitched seven shutouts. He was named to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977. He died April 23, 2014, in Havana, two days before his 103rd birthday.
