Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili:

"Georgian officer Tamaz Sukhiashvili has heroically fallen in the battle for Donetsk airport. He, along with other Georgians and volunteers, fought off hundreds of Russian SWAT and Kadyrov’s forces.

“Our fighters, in a very fierce battle, took control over monastery grounds that were used by the enemy to fire at the airport. As a result, the Ukrainian army restored and maintained control of the Donetsk airport, a strategic asset which is a matter of principle for Putin.

“Three other Georgian soldiers were also wounded in this brave act. I spoke to Sandro Kvitashvili and according to him, they will recover soon.

“Tamaz fought in Tskhinvali in 2004, as well as in Iraq, Afghanistan and in the 2008 war.

“He quit his well-paid job in the Georgian Armed Forces as soon as the Ukrainian war started. He took an active part in all clashes, though yesterday’s victory was his last."

“'Russia will definitely be defeated and will have to surrender both Ukrainian and Georgian territories', - Saakashvili wrote on his Facebook page."
