Zenda Kansas

Zip Code 67159 and my current solitaire score.

Zenda is in Kingman County, one county up from Oklahoma and centered. The 2010 population was 90, down by 33 from the 2000 population. In 1990, 96 people lived in Zenda. That looks like this:

1990 – 96 residents.
2000 – 123 residents.
2010 – 90 residents.

You have to wonder why over a period of 20 years, 30-something people moved into and out of Zenda.

Also, demographic makeup by the 2010 census showed the population as 100 percent white, while the 2000 census showed white population at 92.678 percent.

Zenda has a restaurant called The Lumber Yard Steakhouse. An ad at http://www.onlinezenda.net/ notes “Seafood Buffet $23.95, Boiled Shrimp, Crab Legs, Fried Shrimp Fried Catfish, Oysters on a Half Shell Baked Tilapia Dessert Bar and Much More.” The ad also notes there is no seafood buffet in December and January.

The town was called Rochester and then New Rochester. A postmaster’s wife was a fan of Anthony Hope’s The Prisoner of Zenda and had the name changed.
