Predicted high temperatures next 3 days

84, 87, 88.

In Central Arkansas. In July.

The jet stream is running northeast from Southern California and Nevada, into Canada and then swooping down southeast.

Yard work calls.

Where is the (lightweight) oil going?

Some high-dollar cars are using a quart every 1,200 miles; dealers say usage is within specs.

“Our latest car drinking oil is our $105,000 2012 Porsche Panamera, which is consuming a quart of 0W-40 motor oil about every 2,000 miles. With a 10,000 mile oil change interval, that's five quarts of synthetic oil (at about $8 per) in between oil changes.”

Wow, Man. Like, who knew?

“The stereotype of pot smokers as lackadaisical loafers is supported by new research: People who smoke marijuana regularly over long periods of time tend to produce less of a chemical in the brain that is linked to motivation, a new study finds.”

http://news.yahoo.com/marijuana-science-why-pot-heads-slackers-104756017.html

(The more dope smoked, the less dopamine produced.)

Now for some really bad news: “Previous studies looking at marijuana's effects on the brain have shown that chronic marijuana use may trigger inflammation in the brain, which could affect coordination and learning, and that cannabis users have a higher risk of schizophrenia.

“But the new results suggest more research is needed to understand the potential links between chronic marijuana use and mental illnesses.”

(Everything always requires “more research.” Studiers don’t get more grant money by saying, “Well, we’re done. Nothing more to find here.” One of these days a researcher will find Reefer Madness was right.)

Add George Mason University to the list of thieving bastards who are after my mother-in-law’s Social Security

Specifically, the university’s Mercatus Center.

“From the Desk of Maurice McTigue, Q.S.O.”

“Dear ----:

“Cronyism is giving capitalism a bad name.

“This government favor factory is dispensing preference and privilege … distorting the market … and costing billions of taxpayer dollars.” (Ellipses in original document.)

Five pages later: “And with a gift of $10,000 or more, you could join our Founders Circle. You’d receive the listing in our Honoring Annual Supporters mailing as well as timely conference calls on current issues and invitations to our special events.”

Wow! For only $10,000 (or more), my mother-in-law could be mentioned in a list and she could get a telephone call!

Just a little information: In the fiscal year 1 September 2010 to 31 August 2011, the Mercatus Center reported $11.7 million revenue and $10.77 million expenses. During the same period, COO Brian Hooks received a salary of $225,000.

Mercatus Mission:

“For over 25 years, the Mercatus Center at George Mason University has sought to bridge the gap that often exists between economic understanding and real-world decision making. Mercatus applies scholarly research to the problems facing policy makers. Bringing together a network of scholars and experts from around the globe, the Mercatus Center provides policy makers with the economic tools to make sense of today's most pressing issues. Mercatus turns ideas into action. Capitol Hill Campus is the central outreach program of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. The program bridges the gap between scholarship and policy by making academic research and methods available to policy makers, and grounding academics by making them aware of policy makers' need for relevant analysis of public policy issues.” (Also at charitynavigator.)

(For the amount of money Mercatus takes in, its people can do a lot to “bridge the gap that often exists between economic understanding and real-world decision making.”

(What it is, is a bunch of people with a bunch of degrees sitting around and talking about theory and such. Of course, if you want to play cards at the big guy table, you have to bring big guy stakes.)

Headline: ‘Court wins expected to bolster gay pride’

The story predicts more "gay pride parades."

You know, He’s gay, she’s gay, wouldn’t you like to be gay too?

Well, no. In addition to natural revulsion, I do not make my identification based solely on a sexual act. In fact, none of my identification. "Hi. I’m Bob and I am heterosexual. You don’t need to know anything else about me. My sexual preference is all that matters. My sexual preference has determined everything that has ever happened in my life. Everything. All of my existence is bound up in my sexual preference. Every job I ever had, every decision I ever made – all because I am heterosexual."

Homosexuality must be tremendously confining.

'Married' foreign homosexuals flood immigration offices

“Now, legally married same-sex couples will be able to apply for green cards for their noncitizen spouses. And U.S. citizens will be able to file fiancĂ© visa applications if their future spouse lives in another country and does not have a visa, according to Immigration Equality, a group that works on immigration issues on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) couples.

"’From an LGBT perspective, at this point, immigration is going to be an even playing field,’ said Cara Jobson, a partner in Wiley and Jobson, a San Francisco immigration law firm.”

‘Same-sex couples flood immigration offices for green cards’

(Well, that’s the whole point of everything, isn’t it – a level playing field. Translated, that means “all things are equal.” No one thing is better or superior or more moral than any other thing. Moslem is as good as Jewish, Buddhism is as good as Christianity, polygamy is as good as … No, wait. Not that. No, no. Not yet, anyway. And, really, if two women want to marry the same man, why not? What right has government to stand in the way of happiness? What right has government to apply the concept of morality to anything? History shows … That does not matter. We are here, we are now.)

But, all fields are not equal. Not when sex is involved,

“Last month, Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) was forced to withdraw an amendment from the national immigration bill that would have allowed foreign partners in a committed same-sex relationship to become citizens. Republicans had threatened to scuttle the bill if the amendment was not yanked.”

“(F)oreign partners in a same-sex relationship.” What about foreign partners in a heterosexual relationship? And, government would decide what makes up a relationship?

All those people who say they want government out of marriage? They don’t.
