Astrakhan farmer’s find leads to Sarmatian warrior’s tomb

A farmer stumbled on a rare Sarmatian burial while working his land near the village of Nikolskoye in the Astrakhan region of southern Russia this winter. Rustam Mudayev was digging a pit when his bulldozer made an unusual sound. It was the sound of a mechanical digger meeting an ancient bronze pot. He took the vessel to the Astrakhan Museum-Reserve for examination and it was identified as Iron Age artifact.

When the snow melted, a team of archaeologists surveyed the find site. The discovered that the bronze pot had emerged from an ancient burial mound. The mound is noted on topographic maps, labeled “Praying Sands,” but had not been archaeologically excavated before.  Digging into the mound the team discovered the remains of an adult male buried with weapons, rich adornments and the head of his horse.

US infantry strength at end of World War II

Medal of Honor actions by 1st Lt. James E. Robinson.

Men awarded the medal performed amazing feats of bravery. The citation for 1st Lt. James E. Robinson shows another aspect of the European theater that is not mentioned in general books of history. We read of divisions and regiments, 15,000 or 3,000 soldiers, and are not aware of the true numbers of trigger-pullers.

1 st Lt. Robinson on 6 April 1945 was assigned as forward observer to Company A, 1st Battalion, 253rd Infantry Regiment. When the commander and most sergeants were incapacitated by wounds, Robinson led the 23 remaining uninjured rifleman and a few walking wounded in an assault.

“… 23 remaining uninjured riflemen.”

In World War II, an American infantry company’s strength was around 200. 1st Lt. Robinson’s actions occurred one month before the end of the war in Europe. His company was about 177 soldiers below strength. The company’s combat efficiency should have been somewhere around zero. But those soldiers attacked, because an attack was needed.

The plain truth is, at the end of the war, the Army was running out of infantrymen.

1 st Lt. Robinson’s citation can be found at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_E._Robinson_Jr.

World War II Soviet and Russian art

Some are ghostly.

You want to leave, and you know the only way to do that is to kill more Germans.

The stupid is strong in Maintal and Offenbach

A beer for Mohammad!

“Local German councils got involved in promoting Islam. They decided the best way to do that was on beer coasters in pubs.”

Dispute between ‘ethnic Albanians’ and Serbs part of old conflict

Montenegro is a diverse country, with several ethnic groups occupying different locales as well as the same towns and cities. Religion, ethnicity and history still play important roles in Montenegro. Attempted restoration of a Serbian Orthodox church in Martinaj, a small town whose population is mostly “ethnic Albanian” has brought protests from the majority population.

The term “ethnic Albanian” almost always means Muslim. In Kosovo, for example, the majority of the population is “ethnic Albanian,” or Muslim, more than 95 percent by census.

The Serbs want to build their church building on the foundation of a previous church. Eurasia Review says the original building “was built in 1928, but was destroyed in 1941 during World War II.”

Eurasia Review also says, “Martinaj is situated in the mainly Bosniak and Albanian municipality of Gusinje, where locals have previously asked ethnic Albanian politicians to demand that the restoration work on the church be halted, calling it a ‘provocation’.
“During a gathering of priests and Orthodox believers at the church foundations in 2013, a conflict erupted with local villagers, and police arrested 22 people. Orthodox Christians and priests set up a wooden cross at the site at end of April, but it was removed two weeks afterwards.”
Saying the cross “was removed” is true, but Balkan Review has a different explanation than simple removal.
“A local dispute has turned into became a much larger inter-ethnic row after unknown perpetrators removed a wooden cross from the foundations of St. Vasilije Ostroski church in the village of Martinaj and threw it into a nearby stream.”
Taking the side of Montegran ethnic Albanians, “former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha wrote on Facebook that “Montenegro-Serbian extremists are restoring the church to provoke Albanian residents’”.
That is the way things are in parts of the Balkans, the way things have been for centuries. Any attempt at restoring anything Christian is termed provocation by Muslims.
Of Martinaj, sq.wikipedia says, “This settlement is almost completely inhabited by Albanians.” Census numbers state a population of 650 Albanians, 25 Serbs and 5 others. The site also says “the average age of the population is 87.2 years.”

Believe at your own peril

There is an old Hotel/Pub in Marble Arch, London, which used to have gallows adjacent to it.  Prisoners were taken to the gallows (after a fair trial of course) to be hung. The horse-drawn dray, carting the prisoner, was accompanied by an armed guard, who would stop the dray outside the pub and ask the prisoner if he would like ''ONE LAST DRINK''.  If he said YES, it was referred to as ONE FOR THE ROAD. If he declined, that prisoner was ON THE WAGON.

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot and then once a day it was taken and sold to the tannery. If you had to do this to survive you were "piss poor", but worse than that were the really poor folk, who couldn't even afford to buy a pot, they "Didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.

But wait! There’s more!

Eliminating Thomas Jefferson

“Mayor Pete Buttigieg was on the Hugh Hewitt Show this week and Hugh hit him with one question that the entire field will be answering sooner or later. Democrats have been renaming their annual Jefferson-Jackson dinners all over the country because Jefferson was a slave owner. Is Mayor Pete onboard with these changes? Oh, you bet he is, buddy. (Free Beacon)
“Pete Buttigieg, who is running in a crowded Democratic field for president, said on Friday he believes renaming events and things named after President Thomas Jefferson is the 'right thing to do.'
“The South Bend mayor appeared on The Hugh Hewitt Show, where he was asked to weigh in on the name of the annual Indiana Democratic dinner, which was formerly named after party founders and former presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. Indiana Democrats changed the name of the annual dinner in 2016…
“’Yeah, we’re doing that in Indiana. I think it’s the right thing to do,’ Buttigieg said. ‘Over time, you develop and evolve on the things you choose to honor … Jefferson is more problematic. There’s a lot of course to admire in his thinking and his philosophy, but then again if you plunge into his writings, especially the notes on the state of Virginia, you know that he knew slavery was wrong.’”

Thomas Jefferson is considered the father of the Democratic Party. Today’s Democrats, acting like the unrestrained rebellious teenagers they are, want to throw out the Old Man, in the case of Jefferson because he owned slaves. Our modern Democrats want to unname everything Jefferson.

Why do they not take the idea to its logical end – Unname everything now called Washington, Jefferson and Jackson? Require all Americans who hold one of those last names to rename themselves and their progeny. Shoot, find out the names of every slave owner and eliminate those last names from buildings and monuments, and make further use of those names illegal. It's the (Democratic) logical thing to do.
