What will Taliban do with its new Afghan army?

KABUL (Sputnik) - The Taliban (under UN sanctions for terrorism) said on
Sunday it was about to form a regular standing army of 100,000 fighters, months
after taking power in Afghanistan.
Enayatullah Khwarazmi, a spokesman for the
Taliban-run defenсe ministry, said the ranks of the new Afghan army had been
filled by 80%. A 20-men committee is doing the vetting.
Qari Fasihuddin, the Taliban's chief of staff of
the armed forces, told al-Jazeera in November that the insurgency planned to
recruit 150,000 fighters to join their ranks.
The Islamist militancy has also been seeking to
woo officials who served under the ousted administration over to the
Taliban-controlled ministry. They said many staffers had returned to work.
The Taliban have to have somebody to run all
that equipment left behind for the “old” Afghan army. Who better than
American-trained technicians and mechanics?
What does this headline mean?
Checking out
the news organization 1440, I saw this headline:
‘Women and
children among dozens reported killed in Myanmar Christmas Eve massacre’
The lead paragraph says: “Myanmar government troops
have rounded up villagers — some believed to be women and children — shooting
dead at least 38 and burning the bodies, according to a charity and
other reports.”
There are several stories within the story, allegations
from various NGOs and governmental bureau. But does the story gain credibility
by pointing out women and children were “among” those killed? If all reported
38 had been men, would that have made the killings less inhumane? And how many
of the 38 were “women and children?”
If someone goes on trial and he admits, “Yes, I killed
four, but they were men,” does he get points off on the murder charge?
Maybe there should be an international agreement on scoring murder charges -- Five points per child killed, three points per woman killed, one point per man killed.
The story of an aviation tragedy, written on a C-47 door
On 10 December 1942, C-47A SN 41-18564 crashed into Mount Obree in the Owen Stanley Range of New Guinea. Seventeen of the 23 men aboard survived the crash. When discovered in 1961, the wreckage contained a record from 10 November until 31 December 1942 written in charcoal on the aircraft’s rear cargo door.

That site
says “all guests ages 5+.” Another site says 16+ and another “over 18.”
Obviously, Germans are not running the museum. If experts at things Holocaust
were in charge, the numbers would match.

yes. We realize this is an inconvenience, but it is for the good health of all,
nicht so?

‘One of the biggest cons in world history’

We spend billions of dollars on solar panels and
transmission lines, and in winter, when we need energy the most, they work only
around ten percent of the time.
“Another reason for falling productivity in winter is snow cover. Even
a thin layer of snow on panels can lead to significant reductions in
electricity generation from solar panels, and as Ralph Jacobson, the founder of
IPS Solar, has said in the past, it is too expensive to pay someone to clear
snow off the panels.”
Process that fact:
solar panels are such a lame energy source that when it snows, it isn’t worth
it to pay someone–high school kids, probably–to shovel them off. (Comment: What
is wrong with hiring school kids to do physical work in the winter?)
“In February of 2018, solar panels
produced 14.6 percent of their potential output, and in 2020, they generated 17
percent. However, in 2019, solar facilities produced just 6 percent of their
potential output, because that year had one of the snowiest Februarys on record.”

6 percent of
“potential output”? Has anyone ever had a job where six percent of potential
output resulted in anything other than being fired? “Hey, I’m just as
productive as a Minnesota solar farm” probably wouldn’t be a valuable argument.
