Those small people we descended from? Not always

Wikipedia article on Gravettian people, 33,000 to 22,000 years ago:

“Physical remains of people of the Gravettian have revealed that they were tall and relatively slender people. The male height of the Gravettian culture ranged between 179 and 188 centimetres (5 ft 10 in and 6 ft 2 in) tall with an average of 183.5 centimetres (6 ft 0.2 in), which is exceptionally tall not only for that period of prehistory, but for all periods of history.

“They were fairly slender and normally weighed between 67–73 kilograms (148–161 lb), although they would likely have had a higher ratio of lean muscle mass compared to body fat in comparison to modern humans as a result of a very physically active and demanding lifestyle. The females of the Gravettian were much shorter, standing 158 centimetres (5 ft 2 in) on average, with an average weight of 54 kilograms (119 lb). Examinations of Gravettian skulls reveal that high cheekbones were common among them.”

Later humans were shorter. So, what caused the four-inch decrease in average height?

What Chechen leader, meant was…

From Caucasian Knot

The statement voiced by Ramzan Kadyrov about the ineffectiveness of the Russian troops’ actions in Ukraine was not aimed to criticize Vladimir Putin, but the leader of Chechnya expressed his opinion as the military general, note the analysts interviewed by the “Caucasian Knot”.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 27, Ramzan Kadyrov criticized the military leaders of Russia for the slowness and the ineffectiveness of combat actions in Ukraine and called on “to begin a large-scale operation in all directions and territory of Ukraine.”

The words of Ramzan Kadyrov were not aimed to criticize Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin, and the leader of Chechnya expressed his opinion as a military tactic, suggests Alexander Artamonov, a technical editor and a military observer of the weekly “Zvezda” (Star).

The assertion of Ramzan Kadyrov that the special military operation is being carried out too slow is not unfounded, adds Alexander Artamonov. However, he disagrees with the Ramzan Kadyrov’s opinion that the operation was ineffective.

Despite the assertions voiced by Ramzan Kadyrov, nothing will be changed at this stage of the military operation, believes Akhmet Yarlykapov, a senior researcher at the Centre for Caucasian Studies of the MGIMO (Moscow State Institute of International Relations).

“Of course, on the Ramzan Kadyrov’s part, at least, there was no intention to criticize the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. Most likely, this is a criticism of the military commanders of Russia, not Vladimir Putin. Here, Ramzan Kadyrov wants to convey his own vision of how the operation should be conducted … I think nothing will change at this stage, and nothing will be suddenly entrusted to him, but of course, he wants to show the significance of his units,” Akhmet Yarlykapov said.

Kadyrov has said he will execute any Chechens fighting for Ukraine. An easy thing to say, since it is unlikely those Chechens will return to Chechnya. They left for a reason, to get away from Kadyrov’s rule.

Kadyrov has also said that if his army was involved, his forces, under his leadership, would have taken Kyiv by now.

We will give you guns, but…

The Biden Administration has just offered billions of dollars of top grade U.S. military equipment to Ukraine. The bad news is, Ukrainians have to go to Afghanistan to get it.

Russian prostitutes who use online banking for their transactions have had their accounts frozen by the sanctions. They are not as highly paid as Chinese prostitutes like LeBron James and Nike.

“My point is one that C. S. Lewis made in The Weight of Glory: all economic and political and sexual and educational efforts are in vain if they do not help to preserve and multiply such places as Warner was, and the things that its people did—talking together, walking at night under the stars, dancing, falling in love and getting married and having children who swarm over the fields and streets when school is not going on, singing in choirs, worshiping God. Much of the withering of church life in our time is but an instance of the withering of all community life—an instance, or perhaps its root. “

A TV ad last night

... offered a phone for $1,000 off. That's what the ad said. $1,000 off. What can a phone possibly do that I need to pay who knows how much money after the company subtracts $1,000? I Googled, just to make sure I hadn't dreamed the ad. I had not.

Gee, phone people! Don't you know we're still in a pandemic of some sort or another?

Massachusetts Christian college can’t handle the truth

Speaker cancelled after students protest what he said.

Marvin Daniels said “he was concerned about Christian men ‘treating young ladies like they’re urinals’ and Christian women ‘who dress like desserts on a menu and then they get upset when a brother want to place an order,’ according to a transcript of the talk.”
