Continued National Guard DC deployment ‘inappropriate at best’

National Guard Association Chairman and Arizona Adjunct (sic) General Maj. Gen. Michael McGuire is calling for troops’ presence in Washington, DC to end following a two-month extension this week.
“This enduring requirement of having them around the city, I think it's completely inappropriate at best, illegal at worst,” Maj. Gen. McGuire told the Washington Examiner on Friday.
National Guard troops were deployed to DC following the January 6 riot at the US Capitol that led to five deaths, including that of a police officer. The continued presence of the soldiers, as well as extensive security measures, have become an increasingly hot topic as critics question what exact threat it is they are protecting against.
In a leaked internal memo, National Guard Bureau Chief Gen. Daniel Hokanson also said he disagreed with the continued deployment of Guard troops, saying it may “impede our ability to man future missions.” He cited individual state needs that should be a priority for the Guard, including Covid-19 vaccine distribution, natural disasters, civil unrest, and national disaster emergencies.

The future was now
In 1992, while working for a
newspaper in Northeast Texas, I interviewed a man whose company sold portable
telephones. A portable phone is not the same as a wireless phone. Far from it.
A portable phone required a carrier, a box that held the phone and all kinds of electronic things and big flashlight-style batteries. When used in a vehicle, the phone could be plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. A cigarette lighter socket is what on newer cars is called the DC access, where you can plug in your cell phone or laptop or whatever other electronic device you carry in your car or truck.
The portable phone was heavy. Here is a link to a 1988 car phone.
A typical portable phone gave the user 30 minutes of talk on batteries and required a charge of 10 hours.
One thing the phone company man said impressed me at the time and has remained in my mind.
“Not too long from now,” the man said, “you can be reached anywhere in the world. You can be hunting big horn sheep in Alaska, and someone can contact you by phone.”
I thought: “If I am hunting in Alaska, or anywhere else, I don’t want anybody calling me on a phone.”
Like a lot of other people, I
still think the same thing.

Is this what it sounds like?
“The Air Force Is Having To Reverse Engineer Parts Of Its Own Stealth Bomber”, or is it part of Air Force current production procedure?

“In a surprising turn of events, the United States government is calling upon its country’s industry to reverse engineer components for the Air Force’s B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. An official call for this highly unusual kind of assistance was put out today on the U.S. government’s contracting website beta.SAM.gov.”
(“Of Its Own” in the headline is a head-scratcher. Who else’s stealth bomber would the Air Force be asking for reverse engineering? “In a surprising turn of events.” Who said so? Unnecessary, bloated writing. Just state the facts and let people interviewed give opinions.)
“While it’s hard to say exactly why this approach is being taken now, it indicates that the original plans for these components are unavailable or the manufacturing processes and tooling used to produce them no longer exists. This could be the result of them having been so secretive that, at some point, they were inadvertently destroyed altogether. They could also have been simply misplaced, or the parts may have been produced by a smaller contractor that has long since disappeared, taking the bespoke tooling with it.”
(The story be somewhat better to have someone other than the writer giving an opinion on why the Air Force is asking for reverse engineering.)
The
web site that had the link (gunfreezone.net) postulated that if original B2
plans were printed on paper and later digitized, it might be some plans were
not transferred from paper before the papers were destroyed.
Or is it likely that someone in the Air Force’s filing system misfiled or lost the paper and/or digitized plans?
The
story would have been better had the writer actually contacted the Air Force
and asked, “What’s the deal here?”
