Victor, Colorado, 80860

Victor is in Teller County, southwest of Colorado Springs.

As with other towns in the area, Victor came into being because of mining. Cripple Creek is not far away. Here is The Band doing Cripple Creek:

That song is about going “straight down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico, to Lake Charles, Louisiana …” That is long way from Cripple Creek, Colorado. Oh, Lake Charles is not on the Gulf.

Some Pure Prairie League (has nothing to do with Victor, but I like the song):

Also known as Elkton Goldfield.

Population disbursement 2000: total, 587; white, 555; black, 2; Hispanic, 33; Asian, 1; Hawaiian, 7; other, 15.

Seven businesses in 2000 employed 85 people.

You can’t do an RV dump in Victor. RV places are about 30 miles away.

Some areas are being mined again. Victor lives on what used to be – gold mine tours, gem and mineral show, gold rush days.

http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/co/victor.html says Victor is a “semi-ghost town.” You have to watch out for those semi-ghosts. They’re kind of upset at not having permanent ghost standing.
