History given a seat at the back of the bus

In “8 Unplanned Results of the Iran Deal,” Michelle Pletka says there is an assumption “the Islamic Republic is looking to upset the status quo” in the Middle East.

What Ms. Pletka does not mention is that the present status quo was brought about by the Sykes-Picot agreement, when Britain, France and Imperial Russia, drew lines in the sand, creating Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine from the middle parts of the Ottoman Empire.

That World War I agreement set in motion every political, military and social conflict in the area, as did the world war for the entire planet.
