Don’t try Danish

The language. The pastry you can try.

A Facebook post from a Danish friend, referencing a friend of hers who had updated her profile. In Comments was this: “Smukke pige.” Okay. I would never call an attractive woman smukke pige, but my ancestors left that part of the world more than three centuries ago, maybe longer, on their way to becoming Scots-Irish and eventually American. So, I clicked “Translate.” Smukke pige translates as “Pretty girl.” Another nice Danish phrase: “Flotte smukke dig.” Means “Beautiful beautiful you.” So Facebook says.
