Tie math to a chair and interrogate it with rubber hoses until it loses its racism

From Lone Star Parson.

Oregon school teachers are “encouraged to take a course entitled, 'A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction: Disabling Racism in Mathematics Instruction.'”

In white racist colonialist math, students are taught “there is only one right way to do math.”

https://lonestarparson.blogspot.com/2021/02/ethnomath-dismantling-racism-in-maths.html

“The history of mathematics, its colonization, and what is deemed ‘acceptable’ knowledge is rich and complex, therefore, the way that mathematics is taught in the United States needs to be interrogated because it currently centers Western, Eurocentric ways of processing and knowing information.”

So, if schools teach a non-Western, non-Eurocentric way of processing and knowing information, non-White students will learn … What?

I have read several articles on racism inherent in math instruction and in math itself. Every one of those articles said schools must teach non-Western, non-White methods. Not one story said what those non-Western, non-White methods are, not has any mentioned outcome when schools teach African or Asian philosophies.

1+1=2 in racist, White, colonialist math, but what is the answer in non-Western math? Or, perhaps 1, 2 and 3 exist only in Western minds.

  1. In math, there is only one correct answer.
The pathways To that answer may be numerous.
Finding the simplest, most direct is great. But getting the correct answer is the ultimate goal.
It took me three pages to pound my way through a problem my chemistry professor did in about three square inches,. My answer got full credit. It was correct.

Yeah, I know, get on up in math and more than one answer exists, yet, having the span of numbers that create the correct answer Is the
    One answer.

  2. Justin, I am with you on that. One answer. How you get the answer is your approach to the question.
