Burglar shot with his own gun; body found in car four days later.
“Stokes bled to death in the car while Mackey drove to Lake Worth, police said. There, Mackey and another man put the body inside another car, where it sat for three days, according to the report.
“The car then was moved to Australian Avenue, about 2 miles east of Interstate 95 and just north of 45th Street in Lake Park, the report said. A passerby discovered Stokes’ body inside and thought he was sleeping.
“Investigators say they found a cellphone in the car that led them to Mackey. It helped show that Mackey was an associate of Stokes’, and investigators used cellphone records to track Mackey and Stokes from Lake Worth to Broward County and back around the time of the shooting, a report showed.
“Mackey was arrested Saturday and is being held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail, charged with second-degree murder in Stokes’ death and armed home invasion.
“Under Florida law, an accomplice can be held responsible for a death if it occurs while committing a crime.”

More of this sort of thing doesn’t really happen
“AW1Ed sends us a link to a story in Cinncinati, Ohio, where a victim defended himself from a robbery on the street. The thief, James Mixon, was DRT (dead right there) when the police arrived on the scene.
“3E9 sends us a link from Vicksburg, Mississippi, where Rafael McCloud, a capital murder suspect escaped from jail and forced his way into a home. He tied up the man and wife who lived there and stabbed the man. The homeowner escaped his bonds, got his wife free and they both opened fire on McCloud who was DRT (dead right there) when the police arrived, ending McCloud’s last eight days of freedom. The homeowner was treated for minor injuries.
“In Jacksonville, Florida, Joshua Curry arrived at work late, but just in time for a co-worker to shoot another co-worker. Curry got his legal gun from his car and held the shooter at gun point until the police arrived, probably ending a mass shooting situation. A good guy with a gun at the right place at the right time. I don’t expect that I’ll read about that one in the national media.
“In Midwest City, Oklahoma, an eighteen-year-old woman had a protective order against her 20-year-old ex-boyfriend. I guess he thought it was an invitation, so he broke into her apartment while he was armed and forced himself on her. She was pretty certain of the reason she had filed the protective order, so she shot him. He was DRT (dead right there) when the police arrived to enforce the new order. In an update to the story, it seems that the girlfriend had filed a protective order last year when he tried to assault and kidnap her with a handgun. The order was dismissed when neither showed up for the hearing, and then she recanted her story to the police and charges were dropped. And then she had to kill him.
“An update to the story the other day from Torrance, California where a jeweler killed a fellow who tried to rob his store – the dead fellow was Keon Bailey and it turns out that he was a person of interest in the murder of Louis Giuntini, 95, and Rose Giuntini, 92 in February, 11 days after he was released on parole from prison for burglary, possession of stolen property, rape, grand theft, trespassing and sexual battery. So now he’s gone on to his Great Reward.
“Tim sends us a link to the story in Glendale, Arizona, a teenager was forced to arm himself when a pair of thieves forced their way into his home when he was alone. He pointed a gun at the two and they ran away.”

Gun grabbers will tell you these things don’t happen
The number of homeowners or property owners or citizens using guns to defend themselves against murder and/or robbery is overblown and over-estimated.
Riiight.
“In Nashville, Tennessee, an apartment resident awoke to the sounds of someone busting in through his door. He grabbed his gun and closed his bedroom door. When the intruder entered the bedroom, the resident yelled for him to freeze. Instead, the criminal reached for his waistband. The resident sent some rounds center mass – the thief tried to run, but collapsed outside the bedroom. When the police arrived, the perp was DRT (dead right there).
“Near San Francisco, California, Joe Balistreri shot an intruder who had forced his way into Balistreri’s parents’ home back in 2012. Joe is facing a civil lawsuit for shooting the intruder despite the fact that the local prosecutor decided the shooting was justified.
“In Wills Point, Texas, the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home invasion call and found the intruder DRT (dead right there). The homeowner was also injured, but his injuries aren’t life-threatening.
“In Selma, Alabama, a woman was at the local ATM machine when she was approached by a masked gunman. Her grandson saw the events unfold and pulled out his own gun they engaged in a brief gunfight and the thief took off – Selma police got a call from nearby Prattville police to report that thief was in a hospital there being treated for a wound.
“Hack Stone sends us a link to the story of a 15-year-old boy in Spotsylvania, Virginia whose mother’s boyfriend was pounding on her. The boy went a got a gun and put an end to the domestic dispute. When police arrived, the boyfriend was DRT (dead right there) and since Virginia considers all gun deaths to be second-degree murder until proven otherwise, the boy is cooling his heels in the Rappahannock Regional Juvenile Detention Center until the prosecutor decides it wasn’t murder.”
