Of course he is. Good grief. He’s a two-star general. Does anybody think a general will go against the accepted future of the Army? Well, maybe when we have a different president and the 07s grow some.

Yeah, we ordered a study, but we don’t like the results, so …

“All-male ground combat units in the Marines were faster, more lethal and less injured than units with mixed genders, according to a Marine Corps study that looked at integrating women into all service jobs.

“’All male squads, teams and crews demonstrated higher performance levels on 69 percent of tasks evaluated (93 of 134) as compared to gender-integrated squads, teams and crews,’ according a summary of the report released Thursday.

“. . . . The study found all-male squads were faster in each tactical movement than those with both genders, according to the summary. The differences were greater when they were carrying heavy weapons and ammunition.

“Also, all-male rifle groups had better accuracy than integrated squads, according to the summary. And women had more injuries such as stress fractures.”

But Navy Sec Ray Mabus told NPR the report “is, if not flawed, then not in keeping with his broader view that a ‘more diverse force is a stronger force. A more diverse mindset makes you a stronger force. If you have the same outlook, if you have the same mindset, you don’t get much innovation.’”

Not surprising. All military branches are between ye rock and ye hard place, going too fast, not going fast enough.

The story quotes Greg Jacob, “a former Marine and policy director of the Service Women’s Action Network.”

OK, so SWAN wants women carrying rifles and machine guns, driving and commanding tanks, pulling lanyards and all those other combat-related jobs, right?

Well, maybe a little more than that.

“SWAN's mission is to transform military culture by securing equal opportunity and freedom to serve without discrimination, harassment or assault; and to reform veterans' services to ensure high quality health care and benefits for women veterans and their families.”

Forget everything that follows “SWAN’s mission is to transform military culture.” That “equal opportunity” and “freedom to serve” is lipstick and mascara. All you need to know is, SWAN has hooked up with the Yale Law Center and the ACLU and that idealist.org group.

“Transform military culture” means get the boys out of sight and let the girls run things, just as girls now run public education.

If a woman meets the physical and emotional requirements for a job and successfully completes standard training, then there is no reason to keep her from that job. What the military services do not need is a bunch of pissed off liberals saying, “This is how you must do things.”

Translation: We’re going to lower standards.

And know what? When it's all done, the services will say, "No, we did not lower standards. We tested existing standards and determined the standards were not validatiable, so we developed standards that could be validated as correct standards."

“Female Marine officers are unlikely to join the infantry anytime soon, in part because of a lack of volunteers for the Marine Corps' Infantry Officer Course, which was opened to women in September.

“Only two of about 80 eligible female Marines have volunteered for the course -- a grueling, three-month advanced regimen conducted at Quantico, Va., that was opened to women to research their performance.

“Of the two female volunteers, one washed out on the first day, along with 26 of the107 men, and the other dropped out two weeks later for medical reasons, a Marine Corps spokesman said.

“The research effort was launched after the Pentagon opened to women more than 14,000 jobs that could place them closer to front lines and combat.”
