Final accounting for crew of the USS Oklahoma

 From Valor Guardians

“On 2 December 2021, DPAA announced the final accounting for the crew of the USS Oklahoma, sunk at Pearl Harbor, HI, on 7 December 1941. The remaining 33 unknowns from this ship were declared accounted for.

“This personnel accounting was what DPAA referred to as a ‘group accounting’. Although the DPAA article could be more clearly worded, apparently this means that even with modern forensic techniques the remains in question were in such condition – or so little circumstantial and/or reference DNA evidence was available – that they could not be definitively individually identified. It’s also possible that no living family member eligible to provide a DNA sample useful in their identification was available (or came forward) to provide a reference sample.

“An individual accounting for each and every one of these elder brothers-in-arms would have been preferable, and in a perfect world that would have been possible. Sadly, it appears that for these 33 individuals that was simply not feasible given today’s technology.

“These individuals will be re-interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, AKA the ‘Punchbowl’ this coming Tuesday. This coming Tuesday is 7 December 2021 – the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.”

Yeah, your pilots might be a little concerned

The German Luftwaffe pitted a Bf-109 and an He-112 in flying contests, beginning in October 1935.

Of those flights, the Wikipedia article on the He-112 says: “During spin tests on 2 March, the Bf 109 V2 showed no problems while the He 112 V2 crashed. Repairs were made to the aircraft and it was returned in April, but it crashed again and was written off.”

Or, the Finnish VL Myrsky:

"The first of these (developmental aircraft) was completed on 30 April 1943, but crashed a week later, and the second suffered a wheels-up landing three months later, and broke up in the air shortly after resuming flight test. The third was evaluated in service, and, on 17 March 1944, lost both wings in a dive."

Oregon considering permanent indoor mask rule

But health official says permanent rule does not mean permanent.

“Dr. Paul Cieslak, the medical director for communicable diseases and immunizations with OHA, says making the rule permanent doesn't mean it'll be in place forever.

Okay, okay. I got it. The state government or maybe a committee will decide whether to make the not-really-permanent rule permanent. When government officials make that decision, the public will be allowed to make comments. Until then, shut up and pay your taxes.

Is it possible the vice president is a liar?

Kamala Harris’s Kwanza reminiscence is almost a year old, but should be read as often as one can stand.

Tweet from Dec. 26, 2020:

“Our Kwanzaa celebrations are one of my favorite childhood memories. The whole family would gather around across multiple generations and we’d tell stories and light the candles.

“Whether you’re celebrating this year with those you live with or over Zoom, happy Kwanzaa!

Bella Twin’s 1953 World Record Grizzly

One shot from her Cooey Ace 1 single shot .22 killed the grizzly,  but she “went to the bear and fired the rest of the .22 long cartridges that she had, loading the single shot rifle repeatedly, to ‘pay the insurance’ as Peter Hathaway Capstick said. She made sure the bear was dead, and not just stunned.”

The Cooey Ace 1 is not only a single-shot bolt action rifle, but the shooter must manually cock the rifle before firing.

The first .22 I fired was of the same configuration. Slow, but it lets you know you have to take your time. If you intend on doing a lot of fast shooting, take another rifle.

Nazi or Communist, they want to rule everything you do

From Ace of Spades HQ

History teaches us:

The people who pull down statues are never the good guys.

The people who burn, loot, and murder are never the good guys.

The people who would compel you to wear certain things are never the good guys.

The people who would compel you put substances into your bodies over your objections are never the good guys.

The people who would restrict where you can travel, who you can visit are never the good guys.

The people who restrict what you can read are never the good guys.

The people who restrict what you can write and publish are never the good guys.

The people who would withhold information from you "for safety" are never the good guys.

The people who want to restrict or prohibit your access to food, water, employment, medical care, and other necessities of life are never the good guys.

The people who justify any and all excesses in the name of 'public health' or 'public safety' are never the good guys.

The people who impose restrictive rules on others they have no intention of keeping themselves are never the good guys.

And those who support, encourage, defend, and cheer on the people who would do these things are never the good guys, either.
