Stolen pistol bought at church rummage sale

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Tennessee woman shopping at a church rummage sale accidentally bought a loaded Glock 23, believing it was an airsoft gun.

Police have since determined the weapon was reported as stolen.

The woman, who was not named, alerted Greeneville police about the purchase on Sunday. She said she had gone to a rummage sale on May 7 at a church, where a gun was taken out of a bag of clothing and put on a table for sale.

She told police she wanted to buy the holster the .40-caliber handgun was in and thought the weapon was an airsoft gun. When she got home, she said, she realized it was a Glock 23 and there was a full magazine and “one in the chamber.”

The woman told police she then called the youth pastor.

Another woman came forward claiming the gun belonged to her husband, but when she couldn’t provide a proper description of the markings on the side of the weapon it was turned over to police.

Police looked up the serial number of the weapon and found it was reported as stolen on May 8 by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. The report said the firearm, 11 .40 rounds, a magazine, and a holster were seized by police.

No arrests have been made in the case.

The magazine was full and a round was in the chamber. No one at the church knew how to clear a weapon.

Archaeologists have discovered a well-preserved stretch of a late 17th or early 18th century wooden road in Jarosław, southeastern Poland. At 100 feet long, it is one of the longest wooden roads ever discovered in what is now Poland.

The remains were discovered in February during an archaeological exploration of the site of planned sewer work in the historic center of the city. The road led to a gate in the city walls opening west towards Kraków. It was part of a 250-mile route connecting Bielsko Biała to Lviv in modern-day Ukraine. It was a dirt road, except for the section inside Jarosław.

Texas adopts Walker Colt as state official handgun

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott last weekend signed a resolution forwarded to his desk by the Texas lawmakers that makes the original 1847 Colt Walker the official handgun of the Lone Star State. 

The measure, HCR 15, was filed last December by state Rep. Ben Leman, R-Andersonville, and unanimously passed the House Committee on Culture, Recreation & Tourism before sailing through the legislature as a whole. Abbott signed it Saturday, promising that, "I'll be signing more gun laws real soon."

A hulking 4.5-pound 44-caliber revolver, the Walker was so-named after famed Texas Ranger Capt. Samuel Walker, and only about 1,100 of the handguns were manufactured by Eli Whitney for Colt. Some 1,000 were sent to Texas and 100 made for the commercial market. The gun was a collaboration between Walker and Colt, based on the latter's earlier .36-caliber Paterson design, a five-shot revolver that weighed only half of what the Model 1847 would. 

HCR 15 found that: 

·  The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was historically crucial to the early survival of the great State of Texas. 

·  The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was an essential tool in the defeat of the Mexican army during the Mexican-American War to reclaim Texas, the 28th state of the Union. 

·  The co-inventor of the original 1847 Colt Walker pistol, Samuel Walker, was a captain in the Texas Rangers, the first state police agency in the country.

·  The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was America's first pistol to hold six rounds, otherwise known as a "six-shooter."

·  The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol is still the most powerful black powder pistol in existence.

One of the most highly collectibleof all firearms, original Walkers are on proud display at institutions as diverse as the MET in New York, the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, and the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. In 2018, an authentic specimen known to collectors as "The Danish Sea Captain Walker" sold at public auction for a whopping $1.8 million.

Popular in gun culture and Cowboy Action shooting due to its rich history and screen-use in such Old Western films as True Grit, reproductions are marked by Cimarron, Taylors, and Uberti.

 

UFOs: Something for everyone

So now that the Covid thing is dying out as a primary focus, the government needs to fixate the population on another threat.  I think it's going to be UFOs.

Marco Rubio has yapped about UFOs visiting our military bases and even using our 30 trillion national debt we can't get a clear photo of their crafts or know where the heck they are coming from.  I mean, we can track the exact location of that socket set the female astronaut let loose in space on a spacewalk but we can't get a bearing on large moving objects moving toward the planet or entering our atmosphere...

DHS or one of those evil federal agencies is also yapping about UFOs now too. 

Alien technology is so far advanced than ours, obviously they can demand anything of us and we must comply !

What do you think the government is going to propose as the actual threat posed by the aliens?

Some thoughts:

·                     aliens have chosen: Russia, China, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Iceland, the democrats(!) to lead the planet forward

·                     aliens have said global warming is now affecting deep space and we must now fill in the blanks, cross our Ts, dot our Is and watch our Ps ad Qs or they will do it for us

·                     Aliens say rap music is making it out to their planet and is driving them nuts and we need to turn that shit off

·                     aliens need to mate with humans to preserve the diversity of their DNA.  Well, I hope they look something like this.(Pictures of attractive women aliens follow)

·         And hopefully their females find middle age and older males that need to lose a few pounds irresistible. Hey, if I must do my part to save the planet !

·          

·         Then again, maybe it'll be something good for everyone.

We are seeing this all around us every day.

I can tell you that in engineering it is a problem where fundamentals have been lost in favor of transitioning to technology.

I had a conversation not too long ago where someone was very surprised I was a heat treater under 40.  Almost all of materials science has gone to semiconductors and silicon technology and meta-materials.  There is very little “turn iron ore into pig iron, pig iron into steel, steel into parts” taught in materials science anymore.  The attitude has been “that’s all being done in China and India cheaper so why bother knowing it, we should focus on the advanced stuff.”

Then the shit hits the fan, a boat get stuck in the Suez canal, the Chinese lose control of a virus that restricts international trade, and all of a sudden we need domestic steel production and the only guys who know how to operate an oxygen blast furnace all have one foot in retirement.

The skills gap is real and it is hurting us more than we realize.

And just because this is a personal bugaboo of mine on a very similar topic of skills being replaced by technology: iron sights.

Optics are great and I’m glad they’ve become as cheap and plentiful as they have, but that’s no excuse not to be able to shoot irons.  Optics are glass, glass is more fragile than steel.  Batteries die.  Learn to shoot with iron sights.  If you can do that, you can always shoot optics, but being able to shoot optics doesn’t mean you can shoot irons.

Learn to shoot irons.
