Upon espying the synopsis for The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, I initiated a search, having never heard of the man.
Wain was an
English artist, best known for his drawings, “which consistently featured
anthropomorphized large-eyed cats and kittens. Later in life he was confined in
mental institutions and struggled with mental illness.” (Wikipedia)
Wikipedia
also says Wain was born in Clerkenwell in London. His father was a textile
trader and embroiderer. Also noted: “His mother was French.”
Statement
from City of Orlando, twitted on July 3:
“A lot of people probably
don’t want to celebrate our nation right now, and we can’t blame them,” the
original statement said, according to WESH-TV. “When there is so much division,
hate and unrest, why on earth would you want to have a party celebrating any of
it?”
A lot of people said, “Hang
on just a minute,” so the city fixed its proclamation.
“The city of Orlando
sincerely regrets the negative impact our words have had on some in our
community. We understand these words offended some of our residents, which was
not our intent. We value the freedoms we have in this country and are thankful
to the men and women who fought and continue to fight for those. We take pride
in celebrating the 4th of July to express our gratitude to those men and women
and honor the country we live in.”
Got that? The city was not
wrong in what it said, it’s just that some people were offended.

connected to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) were charged this
week for allegedly spying on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party as part of a
“transnational repression scheme” to shut down CCP dissidents in the United
States.
The U.S. Department of Justice said on Thursday that U.S.
prosecutors charged Craig Miller, a 15-year DHS employee working as a
Deportation Officer, and Derrick Taylor, a retired DHS agent who currently
works as a private investigator in Irvine, California.

Dozens of men linked to violent clashes
between rival Indigenous clans in a remote Northern Territory community have
been arrested.
Police detained 25 men over riotous behaviour in Wadeye,
400km southwest of Darwin, which escalated in April after a man was reportedly
speared in the head and died.
'We have been systematically removing the instigators of
violence for the past two months and the targeted arrests yesterday was a large
step forward in bringing stability back into the community,' Superintendent
Kirk Pennuto said on Wednesday.
The NT government reports that 125 of the
community's 288 social housing properties need repairs after sustaining damage
during the riots.
In June, at least four men were reported to have been
left with arrows in their arms and legs after a violent clan stoush, shot with
allegedly stolen crossbows from Darwin.
Almost 20 crossbows were reported stolen from an
Adventure store more than seven hours away from the community.
